What are the chances this works?

I'm saying less than 1%. This has disaster written all over it.

Fcken Telstra can't get a simple webpage to load up without screwing it up. Tons of people always have problems with the AFL live update sites. And that is just flash stuff, not streaming live video.

And now they are suddenly going to throw together a live video stream at the last minute that will work for anyone in the UK ... riiiigght

.

The chances that this doesn't freeze up and/or have video quality that is blurry and heavily pixilates at every slight movement is very, very doubtful.

If you are counting on this working, you might as well start writing your email of complaint already.

Yes Telstra IS rubbish, however we are now getting 8 LIVE games for £0!!!
FWIW they rolled out the same thing for the NRL SOO on Wednesday and the quality wasnt too bad (not great, but not bad). Two of my colleagues and myself quite enjoyed the 2 hours off work

I agree it is far from ideal, but its better than nothing

AFL matches no longer available on the Setanta Network in UK - Setanta is gone - so what are the AFL doing to ensure we get coverage? What are they doing to get us more games in the UK?

We are going to miss the St.Kilda V Geelong game - I will never forgive the AFL if they don't make fixing international coverage a priority!

The AFL is currently in discussions about selling UK broadcast rights to an alternative television network for the remainder of the 2009 season. Fans will be kept updated on progress via the AFL website.

I would assume that the free live streaming will continue until an alternate broadcaster is found. Not ideal, but better than nothing. Credit where it's due to both the AFL & NRL on this one. IMHO they have looked after their fans as best they can by providing all games live to the UK via the web

Thanks for the info - lets hope they sort something out before the big game this week! With my Setanta £ down the drain, the least they could do is stich up the Saints Cats game live on any of the Sky channels...

Perhaps its time for a Southern Sports channel, for all the Aussies, Kiwis and Saffas in London.

I would seem they've completely stopped this now without any announcement. Being redirected to another service that doesn't show live games. Very very poor form.

espn have changed their schedule and are showing 3 games live. The saturday night being the unlucky one to miss out, but perfect for the online streamers

They may change their schedule last minute like they have done with a few other rounds so make sure you check just before the match.

Otherwise that is pretty poor form by ESPN.

Also do a quick scan of the saints v dogs threads from yesterday for some advice on other posibilities to view the match.

Bit of an old thread resurrected but since we're coming into season I thought it was relevant.

Anyone got an idea of what ESPN have agreed/promised to show this season, will it be 3 games a week as at the end of last year? Just trying to decide whether it will be worth paying another tenner a month for on top of my existing 60-odd quid.

Is it a good service they provide?

I have NFI what ESPN are planning.

I suspect as is the way with the AFL, we'll find out higgedly piggedly by trial and error.

Their website says up to 3 a week. Here's hoping its right. If not i'd assume that the live bigpond streams will get a run. It would, as i said in another thread, be ideal if ESPN did live & on demand for all AFL games as they do with NCAA sport from the usa. I'd happily shell out for that

Their site advertises two afl matches in round 1. I can not remember which ones. No preseason cup final, not that that matters too much.

So we can wait until the actual schedule comes out to decide. The site usually shows two weeks ahead. The odd match pops up on eurosport as well, just not live. They do have a roundup package as well I think.

Let's hope it is three matches a week.
