Hi folks,

Just wanted some advice, I have just moved to London for 6 months for a university exchange, and am wanting to know the best way to watch / listen to lions games. The AFL site is poor and I don't know any other sites where I can follow games ...

Is there anywhere online where I can watch the games live? If not, are there any radio stations that I can access online to listen to the games live? I am sure there are some but any hints as to which is the best one?

Sorry if this sort of thing has been posted elsewhere, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Charlie

I am pretty sure that afl.com.au has radio coverage of the games.

Not sure about where you can watch them live in London, someone else will need to help you out there.

Good luck.

Your chances to watch live are essentially nil.

The best way to experience live games in my opinion is via the audio streams on AFL.com.au and watching the live game tracker.

You can get an AFL.com.au international subscription to watch the match video, but these are normally uploaded a couple of days after the game finishes.

Aussietorrents also upload alot of games too.

What part of London are you living in?

I have read that about Setanta are now covering AFL in the UK.

I think Setanta do one game a week.

2 going via this post. Find a good pub and Bob's your uncle:).

Setanta sport will be providing AFL coverage in the UK.:D :D :D

Based on the first round of AFL it looks like they have secured only 2 games - both live :D

Sky/Cable customers will need to subsribe to Setanta - an extra £15 per month.

Here is the UK TV schedule (Setanta Sport 2) for AFL round 1:

Live: Sat 11.00: Sydney V WestCoast
Live: Sun 5.30: Western bulldogs V Geelong
Delay: Sun 9.30: Western Bulldogs V Geelong
Delay: Sun 17.00: Western Bulldogs V Geelong

Thanks everyone.

Living on college means I wont be getting cable TV, so looks like the AFL site is the best option ... Although I won't be hesitating if it is showing down at the local pub!

TBD - I am living in Harrow - North West London.

I will most likely be back for finals time - so with a bit of luck for me and hard work for the boys, I just might see some footy this year! Don't let me down, Lions!

Cheers.

Do people remember cursing the blue dots during the NAB Cup game against the Saints last year? :D

You should try making sense of moving dots in a freezing cold London flat at 4am in the morning. :p

Looks to me like the 'official' route might not work. There are 'unofficial' ways to watch overseas TV.

TVU is an app i have used for this. Google a search. Not sure if it'll work for AFL or not but it's your only option it seems. TVant is another version of it, but havent used that one.

Charlie, allow me to enlighten you on the faint and perforated AFL coverage in London. Word on the street is that Setanta will be broadcasting 4 live games this season. You can subscribe to Setanta for about 15 pounds a month. That is all you get but it sure as hell worth the sterling. If you are patient enough, you can always do what a lot of skips do here and that is wait out a couple of days and catch the replays at one of the Walkabout venues or any other 'Australian' locale. They replay the games in full and publish the screening times in a free magazine called 'TNT' which you can pick up in front of most tube stations (if you have not already found this out). I normally tune into whichever radio broadcast the AFL website is so generous to provide. Don't even bother with bigpond - i can stream a live camel race in Sudan better than a replay game on bigpond - totally weak!

Hey charlie, I'll be in London April and May this year and will probably head into town to see if we can catch at least one game live. The Outback at Covent Gareden used to show them, haven't started my research yet my sister is onto it though and I'll let you know and maybe we can catch up over there.

As for radio coverage go to triplem.com.au and lock in brisbane as your home town and you can listen to their call live, heaps more fun than afl.com.au

Now some of the "semi-legal" video streaming programs such as tvu,tv ants, sopcast and etc can help. I know sopcast has a live stream of channel 10 Sydney, so that might help for some games. I have successfully used these to watch footy when its a diff game to the Adelaide broadcast, and things like all the socceroos.

There's a site called myp2p which is a good source of info about all the p2p tv players and has a good forum where people discuss things such as links to different sports

Hope this helps you:)
