Watters Sacked - Choco dodged a bullet

If I was Williams i'd wonder if I could do with the stress.

You'd think that St Kilda would have learnt from their own history (if not by looking at Richmond's!) that sacking coaches doesn't make the team come good.

It will take them years to sort this mess out. St Kilda are back where we were when we appointed Frawley because no-one else with any profile wanted to put their hand up for it. And we had to put up with that fool for 5 years just to try to get rid of the 'sacking coaches' stigma.

To be honest, i'm not sure that Williams will go for it.

St Kilda have really blown it - again. Either they will be forced to pay huge $ and commit to long tenure to get someone with a profile, or they risk yet another rookie coach.

Its obvious that Pelchen has full control on all things football at that club, Watters clearly didnt have any say in the trade period or on the rebuild, looks like he was kept in the dark for most of his time at the saints, if this wasnt an orchestrated move it looks even siller, Why would you want to coach this footy club heading into a rebuild when you dont even get a say in the list management side of things? its a circus! Pelchen makes the calls the coaches get the sack! Really strange move by the Saints, I guess now at least a new coach comes in well and truly clear that he is entering a rebuild.. why would an experienced coach sign up for that? better off to get a young coach and hope he grows with the list

If Harvey comes in from Collingwood will they pick Bontempelli ahead of Collngwood if they where targeting him at 6?

Interesting the timing of this:cool:

Obviously Saints not to worried about the coach and 2014 atm, looking ahead. Senior players must be sighing!!

If I were Chocco I would be asking many hard questions before I took the job. The last thing you'd want is to be part of an out of control disaster. They and Brisbane seem to be trying to make melbourne and Essendon's management look good. If they are truly rebuilding with a sustainable 5 year plan then OK, take the job. If they are just bumbling from one stuff up to another then stay away. From the outside it looks like they have no plan. The analogy with Spud seems pretty right. So that means GET WALLACE!!

yeah it will take well more than 5 years, so candidates will chase it for big money knowing that can't seriously rise in 5 years with a real chance of career killer role ahead unless coming off a low base . 10 years is more appropriate so will have to provide big money to attract quality experienced knowing they will go out the door at some point just a question of when and how much extra they will need to compensate for it. Or they go for a less expensive young coach knowing they can't sell a BS story anyway and even take more servere short term pain to make their longer term rise occur quicker and sharper with a touch of golden boy good feel selling the hope through light at the end of the tunnel from a possible more believable and or familar trustworthy home grown champion.

Harvey would definitely need a plausible 10 year plan from the club in regards to paths and strategies to get a premiership team together allowing for contingencies, swings and roundabouts one would think!!

Maybe they get a caretaker coach in to monitor the rebuild. Not saying Frawley was a caretaker coach but it nay help if you can attract candidates like Frawley that can move on from hard situations and achieve with other skills like Frawley in the media etc..

foxsport news seems to agree with you there

may suit a 6+ year rebuild

Why should the saints settle for a 6 year rebuild when they can get Terry Wallace in to do the same job in 5 ;)

Does anybody actually even know if Chocco is after a senior gig?
Or is just happy to keep doing what hes been doing?

Yes i think his brother has said he wants to be a senior coach again and he interviewed for the dees job.

Clearly nothing is alright in Saint Kilda. Watters wanted to be sacked and payed out i feel as i cannot understand why he would go on the radio without telling the club otherwise.

Sounds like Pelchen has frozen him out of all list management decisions and discussions which is just amateur, a coach needs to have input into what he is trying achieve. Saints are obviously to broke to do away with Watters until it became obvious he wouldn't do as he was told. Expecting the AFL to jump in with some cash for them soon. Harvey would be a better choice then Chocco as i think someone needs to come in who loves that club and is willing to make very be big personal sacrifices to turn it around.

Chocco should stay another 2 years, win a flag with Richmond, then get a job at Collingwood, Essendon, or Carlton.

if Chocco wanted to coach a basket case, he would have gone for the Melbourne or Lions job. Heck, even the Eagles job. Saints may have completely f****** themselves now. all the decent assistants have gone to other clubs already.

They may have gotten Roos if they played their cards right.

He did go for the Dees job. His family only wants to live in Melbourne or Adelaide after the GWS fiasco so Lions and eagles never an option.

He did go for the Demons job... and I'd imagine it was only geography that stopped him going for the Lions job.
