8 out of the last 10 GF losses have been no Vic clubs, so good enough to get there.....
Yeah, I don't think there too much to read into here. Everyone plays at the MCG throughout the season so there are no excuses for the likes of us (2015), Adelaide (2017), GWS (2019) and Sydney (2022) to have not put in better showings than they did, especially when we won in 2018 and Sydney were in it late in 2016. You've got to be as good on the day as you are the rest of the season.

Can't agree with you there.

Playing a side on their home ground is a significant disadvantage.
It is what it is though and it wont' change.

Malthouse said when he went to Collingwood that most people don't realize how hard it is for an interstate side to win it.

He said something along the lines of "they have to be a significant better side" on most occasions.

For sure but we're fighting an uphill battle against 150 years of history. It would be awesome for the Grand Final to move around but at the moment it is what it is.

I think it is easier to make the finals or top 4 as an interstate team, having 10/11 strong home advantage games makes it easier to get to the 12 and 16 game benchmarks if you are a strong side, you are almost undefeatable at home and you just have to pick off some of the weak rebuilding sides on the road. I do agree winning a GF on the road is extremely tough.

You don't really get a massively one sided crowd at the MCG for GFs given so many of the seats are given to the clubs and corporate partners, just the process of being on the road and not having your normal routine is just a disadvantage.

agree with the first part but not the second - i think if it is a vic team vs non vic team in a gf, there is always going to be a much bigger vic crowd (of the competing teams) because tickets are so much more attainable if you are from Victoria. Geelong mates of mine ended up at the GF on Essendon tickets because they are in Melbourne and know people, much harder for the interstate people to do.
watched the 2018 grand final a few times and definitley seems like a much bigger collingwood crowd than eagles

There is always going to be a big VIC crowd regardless, mostly made up of MCG and AFL Members (Varying VIC Supporter groups), and corporates. I've lived in VIC for 20 years and if the GF is a VIC team versus an interstate team, the "Neutral" VIC supporter at the game traditionally go's against the VIC team as they have a history against them. You won't find many Pies supporters following the Bombers, Hawks etc and vice versa, so the support at the game tends to be pretty even.
I've been fortunate enough to be at Eagles GF wins and losses, and in 2018 at the ground, and around Melbourne it certainly felt that their was just as much support for the Eagles as their was the Pies. Just my opinion though

Sydney (the mighty Bloods, the pride of South Melbourne, the owners of the no dickhead policy unless you include Barry Hall, Adam Goodes and Lance Franklin) have now shat the bed in their last 3 GFs.

Are we allowed to acknowledge that is pretty obviously ā€˜a thingā€™ now?

We would be getting SLAMMED for a record like thatā€¦

They're hard to win. You'd be a less than 50% chance of bagging one when facing a Victorian club as well. Swans have some decent youth and should be thereabouts for years to come. Cats had to bag one before the stars passed their best before date.

That West Coast are the only interstate winner in a decade - and by one straight kick in the dying minutes - should probably underline more of a trend than isolating it to the Swans who have had largely different teams contend in their GFs.
