I don't think much computes with that man.
When it comes to football analysis he’s very astute. The issue is he lets his feelings and loyalty for some individuals get in the way.

He’s had Hamish on a number of times and clearly likes the bloke, so he won’t “pot him from the cheap seats” as he likes to say. But you can’t bag our drafting without it being an implied criticism of Hamish.

Say what you want about them, but Kornes and Kingy on SEN were absolutely scathing of the Crows.

Basically said what we all knew about having a sh*t midfield and a recruiting black hole (2017-2019 )

Its good to see some proper scrutiny and pressure come onto us for a change rather than the previous cop out excuses about rebuilding etc.

King is excusing Nix though, said ‘if he had Ken’s list we’d be flag favourites, he’s that good.’ Both those 2 were aware of our list when they predicted we’d be playing in September. They can’t turn around now and blame it all on list management. Nix sits on list management and if he’d been thumping the table about improving our midfield, I doubt we’d have spent 5 and 6 on small forwards and 8 on a key defender the last 3 years.

No doubt the earlier wasteland starting with Milera and ending with McAsey/Jones hurts, but coaching have been horribly asleep at the wheel regarding mids. Although, we don’t mind throwing a few late darts at the midfield board.

He’s bagged selection, team structure and game plan but Nicks is a good coach…..

Can't argue against the facts...

Ok we all seem to just dumping all these copious poor decisions on Roo but he is just one board member and of course we have CEO etc etc running the club .
Maybe the boys club lets not rock the boat is influenced by Roo but surely there must be someone willing to make hard decision.
Obvious even before start of season Nicks isn't up to levels of AFL coaching ,shown even last year by all those close losses etc.
So why did the club re appoint him when said they were going to wait , but more importantly give him a bargain basement assistants or are they too lazy not to pursue more qualified experienced AFL assistants or don't want anyone coming in shaking the tree.
Last appointments of Hombsch. --- Ex average Port player who on forced retirement helped out as assistant for our AFLW .
Wow that is underwhelming at best.
Then the classic of all time, appointing Baulderstone a very average SANFL player that never got himself into even SANFL fitness levels becomes our AFL ruck coach .
Of course still got Godden there who Crows sacked and then obviously too hard so re appointed him and now in key role.
The other reality is we just don't have the quality players on our list .
Lot of posters keep banging on about quality mids needed which of course we do ,but at least there is a few possibles been recruited but just not type required .
However that is not as thin as our ruck or KPF or marking forward back up or future .
We have
Thillthorpe ---- Keep him non injured and more aggression he might become the player we hope
Himmelberg. --- Enough said already and seen.
Strachan --- Yes a ok SANFL ruckman and that it is it.
Burgess -- Not tall enough to be back up ruckman and lack of system hasn't helped as possible FWD.
Gollant -- same as Burgess but also lacking body strength.
That's it Folks Aint no more not in current team .
How Hamish hasn't been replaced or at the least given another quality recruiter is beyond a joke and many posters like myself have been going on about especially since the 2018 debacle of super draft where Port outsmarted us to trade to get Rozee and we picked Jones ( least he had some abilities ) and McHenry a midget fwd that was slow and didn't kick goals .
Of course Butters etc were not good enough.
Lets face it the only star players that Hamish recruited are
Cameron
Lever
Doedee
And not by him but Dangerfield
Guess what they all have in common.
It just seems we are in revolving door make even worse decisions after poor decisions ,with nobody prepared to make hard decision.
Then of course there is the disastrous decision to give Sloane another season when form certainly didn't warrant it .
That's led to having this very serious eye problem that could cost the club massively going forward .
Pain and embarrassment for Sloane and family when we could have given him a champions send off hat end of last season.

Completely agree

I do not understand the logic behind people saying that the lack of drafting and developing of midfielders is not Nicks' fault.

Ogilvie isn't some maverick just sitting there randomly picking players without a system, recruitment is targeted around what the coaching staff and list management believe are our needs.

We're not going after mids because the coaching staff don't believe it's a priority.

The mcasey and jones picks are hurting us.

Aren't Rachele and Pedlar both 1st round midfielders? They should be and are barely see any midfield time in their 3rd/4th seasons. That's on coaching, not drafting. We need them to become midfielder stars, not bit part mid/forwards. We spent pick 5 on Rankine, who is seeing more midfield time, but he's also too valuable up forward. We effectively spent a late first round pick to get Dawson. Soligo has been a good selection but obviously wasn't a high end pick (not that it really matters if they develop well in the AFL system). To me it shows a recruiting team that has had a focus on the midfield, but also needed to fix other areas with top 10 picks (like Thilthorpe as a KPF and Curtin as a KPD).

The failure in drafting to me came before the Nicks era, not getting any A grade mids out of the Galucci, Jones and McHenry first round picks is killing us now. One or two of those selections should be our prime midfielders now, with Laird having moved to half back 1-2 years ago. Crouch is probably traded 1-2 years ago if those picks are flourishing. Losing access to Noah Anderson in 2019 at the last minute because of AFL intervention is another setback and we never even think of McAsey.

Fun Facts with Grotto

Crows are 1-9 in their past 10 away games.

Depressingly in that one solitary away win, the Eagles were leading at HT and only down by a few points at 3/4 time of that game.

Our away form is a joke.

My extra sad mojo doesn’t provide a selection
However it’s reality I believe

That is a horrible record.
Just remember that Nicks was given a contract extension when that record, was IIRC 1-8 after the Suns loss in R1?

The bar for acceptable performance at the AFC is very very low.

So we're a good chance then to roll Carlton this week and avoid 0-5?

Here is a sobering thought, the last time we beat Carlton at the "dome"/Victoria, Jenkins kicked 7, Gallucci kicked 4 and Rory Atkins kicked 3.

I guess our forward set up has changed over the years. :drunk:
