It will eventually happen and the type of player it will happen with will be a marquee player, on a team that absolutely can't afford to lose him for a single first round pick, where they aren't hamstrung by a lack of cap space.
But what message does the club send in that case. This one player, who wants to leave, is worth more than the rest of the players on the list?! No club is ever going to do that.
That’s why they should get rid of the restricted free agency and just make it free agency, maybe at 8 years.

Not to mention who,s pulling their strings.

Can an offer be for just 1yr so if the GC match the offer Lynch becomes a FA the year after?

I don't see it ever happening, once a player decides to leave that's that and if Lynch want's out he will get out, GC will wave their arms about and threaten to match but will just take the compo from the AFL as all clubs do unless both clubs come to an agreement to thrash out a trade ala crows and cats with Dangerfield

It happens in other sports all the time. RFA is not always about players wanting to leave, it can be as much about a player finding out how much he's worth on the market and demanding that he be paid that (or something close to it) by the club with matching rights.

I think the length of service for unrestricted FA (ignoring the other factors) is 10 years. Given RFA is after 8 years, I'd assume he'd have to sign for at least 2 years to qualify based on length of tenure.

Anyone else seen this??? Came out Nov 1st but I saw it in Dymocks for the first time today. Looks like a great keepsake. Mainly pictorial (if we have fans here that prefer mostly pictures and not many words :p). I only flicked through it quickly but it's quite thick and looks like almost the last third or quarter is Grand Final pics!!
Put it on your Xmas wish lists!!!

Fair enough.Guess a moral less club like Carlton would have exploited it by now otherwise.

1. Recent history suggests you're right about "that's that". It's why the CBA needs to be changed to remove the requirement for players in question to permit to being traded.

2. Given the lay of the land, GC would be idiotic not to threaten to match and demand an equitable trade. Getting just an extra first round pick for him would be a disaster when they have every right to re-sign him under the rules.

I get what your saying but it wont happen, don't get me wrong i would love a club to match but they just wont and i have a sneaky suspicion they are told not too, GC will be well looked after and pick 2 compo ( yes they will finish last and get pick 1 ) is better than any trade unless its a high pick and a quality player.

PS: provided off course that Lynch walks.

I had a read/catch up on the crows board autopsy thread. Farking hell, while they have some great reasonable posters, geez there's some absolute dickheads in there. Some remarkable reading.

Can they read?????? is that what your saying????? nah they look at the pics of destruction

This is enjoyable

Good post Punt rd end. So Rowe (the hairy face one) reckons if the game was played again ten times in a row the crows would win 7 times.......because they were the beter team all year. Mate correct weight has been called...its offical the crows are LOSERS.... and as for the corne boy...sloane was on fire in the first quarter.....the whole team of crows were burnt charcoal after we finished with them.. I wonder what the ratings for that show were.

Lol MB thread saying worse finals series ever etc , campaigners are all still salty that we won . Hilariously delicious .
I've got no issue with neutrals coming to that conclusion about the series as a whole.

Ade d GWS 36p
Ric d Gee 51p
Syd d Ess 65p
WCE d PA 2p (extra time)

Gee d Syd 59p
GWS d WCE 67p

Ade d Gee 61p
Ric d GWS 36p

Ric d Ade 48p

One of eleven games decided by less than 6 goals is pretty putrid. If you remember the games themselves - Adelaide's QF & PF, the Swans elimination final and the two semis were all over with early

Even though the margins blew out, the three Tigers games were the only games (besides the WCE/PA elim) that were enthralling contests for 2-3 quarters each.

If I was following one of the 17 other clubs, I'd have the exact same opinion, although would acknowledge (like last year) how great the story (and performances) of the winner was.

Anyone else finding themselves occasionally or regularly going back and re-reading text message threads from GF day or all three finals game days?

I'm getting a lot of joy out of revisiting a couple in particular. One with a Melbourne supporting mate, who was in the MCC for the QF & PF, that is insanely jealous of me. The other with the only passionate Tigers supporting mate I have, who was also at all three games with his family.

The Melbourne mate was just in awe of our crowds, having been to a lot of finals the last 10 years and despite the playful banter about the Tigers history, I appreciated his genuine praise for our performances and his genuine happiness for me.

Re-reading stuff from the Tigers mate is unbelievable. He was so confident about the results of each game WAY before I was and basically predicted on the money how each game would pan out after half time.

I'm never going to come down from this flag.
