We lost to the fourth team on the ladder by one point

They say a week is a long time in football

We lost to the fourth team on the ladder by a point that is not good but not really really bad

Lose against the bombers next week and the ramifications will be HUGE

If you look at the situation currently it is not that bad, we are third BUT if you look at the immediate future (7-8 weeks) we play Geelong, St Kilda and Brisbane (at the Gabba) and no matter how biased you are you can objectively agree we are a HIGH chance of falling out of the top 4. yesterday's match was crucial for cushoning.

The fact is we were well beaten for 3 qtrs and could have been close to 50pts down at one stage in a game that we were meant to win and which was a huge game for the club. We played one decent quarter of footy and scrambled our way back into the game.

To see it as only a 1 point loss in naive IMO.

We lost to the fourth team and gave them an opening to become the third team.

The current top 4 are clearly the top 4 teams in the comp...

...so positions 1-4 effectively become irrelevant.

Dogs and Collingwood will play Geelong and St. Kilda...likely both in 3 weeks

As for finishing there (top 4), Crows also have Geelong and St. Kilda (away) and Collingwood at home...
...also a Show Down and Carlton away will prove tough.

Carlton, Brisbane, Essendon are all unlikely to challenge.

So, this completely unbiased view says that we have a LOW chance of falling too far at all. ;)

Why were we 'meant' to win?

Aren't we 'meant' to win every week??...otherwise we're just accepting mediocrity, right?

We played one quarter of decent football, and still could have easily won isn't a positive for you?

The lead at QT was the key, and even then I thought they had kicked a few "lucky" [certainly no disrespect to them] goals, and we missed some far easier ones.

We clawed back 4 or 5 times, only for them to respond and maintain that lead...
...eventually we wore them down.

Just needed 2 more minutes...

...[or how about another 5 seconds of the 3rd quarter!!...Cooney runs into the 50 for a relatively easy shot...different story...
...it wasn't...
...but it's a long way from the tale of woe you seem to have seen. ]

Exactly, or maybe we are just naive:rolleyes:.

we've been up, really up for the last 6 or 7 weeks
had an off night
and a decent side beat us on the night
not great
but not the end of the world

First off, that last quater by the Dogs was pretty damned good. We were put under enormous presure, and almost fell to pieces. We looked panicked, and I was sure that the Bulldogs were going to run over the top of us.

I think that teams like to beat Collingwood so much, that it is hard to accept for a lot of people that we are actually a good side. If you listen to the media and to most people on here, you wouldn't think that were 4th on the ladder, and only 4th by percentage after this round.
Just be happy that you were able to put together such good football in the last quater against a side that will genuinely pushing for a top 4 position come finals.
So what if you were struggling against us in the first 3 quaters. All that says is that Collingwood are a damn good side, and the Doggies aren't streaks ahead of us.

Don't be boo-hooing because you didn't smash the 4th place side.

The stupid thing about our supporters is that we seem to have been conditioned to accept valiant catch-ups and bad starts as the norm. 'Oh, yes, but we're the fittest team going around' I hear you say, 'quick', 'skillfull', blah-blah-blah... Being 41 points down at any stage of the game is terrible, and if we were playing one of the top two sides there's no way they would have let us get back in. We just can't afford to be playing like this if we want to have any chance of winning the flag.

god help this place if we lose to Essendon.

I think it will not be as easy as people think beating the bombers next week. The loss to collingwood is evidence that our structure is not as sound as it should be at this time of the year or for any team preparing for a tilt at the flag. Any loss is a indication that we have weaknesses and on friday night the competition had a good look at our inefficiencies. The bombers game this week will most certainly define our finals chances because if we win we can go with confidence back at st.kilda, geelong, magpies (all genuine flag contenders) etc. but if we loose as you say god help this place.

. but if we loose as you say god help this place.

I hate to say it but I think if we lose this game Rodney Eade mighten be there next year

I know its a big statement but we cant have another fade out second part of the season

No, the stupid thing about our supporters is that they use words like 'loose' and 'mighten'.

And I do believe we played Geelong (and I mean a full strength Geelong, not the VFL side they trotted out last night), and kicked 6.4 in the last quarter and 'should' have won.

I agree with everything skeetz said...Collingwood are a very good side.
The top 4 are incredibly close...
...again, we had 4 more scoring shots...30 shots and scored 110 against a team who had allowed the 4th fewest points on the season, and we played so poorly we're no chance to win a flag.

Well said skeetz...boo-hooing at it's finest.

Just watched the last qtr again, should of won by 11 points (besides the first 3 qtrs) can not believe we actually lost.

I'll go with Eade on this one, the problems that caused us to lose can be fixed.

Very similar to the geelong loss though, we got ourselves in a tough position on the scoreboard.

At the end of the day if we were playing the pies in the GF this week I'd be confident we can beat them.
