Great fight by the club to stay with the Swans despite the adversities the game threw up. Good to see the young pups contributing so much, long May it continue. Just a couple of points on a few of them.
Freijah, is it just anxiousness in my part or does he make a few bad mistakes early but rapidly improve as the game goes on. Switch on early son.
West - if you are not getting lots of shots on goal make the ones you do have count. Too many set shots missed.

Yep you're spot on that definitely should be counted as a tackle attempt, not sure why it wasn't counted, probably just missed by the caller. It should be fixed up during the week though.

Was so pissed last night - mostly at the umpires though.

I thought this was a turning point for us - despite the outs we maintained intensity for the whole game. Our pressure was back - rusty, but back. Worked our way back in the game when we had every reasons to give up but didn’t.

Marra showed some aggression, West made a big difference in the middle (though agree his decision making was not great - he created opportunities and got us back into the contest).

While some good tackles our general tackling is terrible - constantly going too high and easily brushed off.

Will seem unfair but a big turning point was the Bont miss. This is his Achilles heel - not just set shot but to make that shot when needed.

Showing my age but reminded me of Michael Jordan - mid way through his career (like Bont) he was the best player in the world but missed a lot of three pointers and as result his team missed close games. He could get the ball but not nail it. What he did was focus on that one thing and next year led the league in three point efficiency. He worked on simplifying movement and the follow through that enabled him to be moving but still nail the point. He found that when he tried to change too many things his body tried to adjust too many things in the game. Ironically - he took up golf to help with the same simplicity and follow through. Now loves golf.

A few years later - he had the next challenge - he was now even scoring heavier at record levels but his team was still not consistently winning. He decided that he would risk scoring by focusing on defence - he ended winning the league defence award. As amazing as that was - his scoring didn’t drop materially - he had baked on such solid routines and increased his fitness (for defence).

Wouldn’t it be amazing if Bont could do the same. Increase his set shot and increase his defensive pressure - I believe he could and we would have our MJ!

Umpires don't make us miss goals we should kick.
Blaming umpires is a cop out. Injuries and accuracy were behind the result.

I never at any point said the umpires cost us the match. What I was pointing out was they as a group had a pretty poor night did the umpiring fraternity. The loss of Richards was the straw that broke the camels back.
Sydney were able to get on top for a period after he went off and made the crucial difference when the game was up for grabs.
