Our gameplan allows too many inside 50s and scores against.

We have a forward line that can score, even when we've got players down.

But as a team we can not allow the opposition so many opportunities.

We are one goal down, lose the middle and we've got Lever trailing his opponent by 5 meters, WTF!!!!!!!! Game over.

How does that happen? How do we keep conceding so many goals? I don't blame our defenders but there is something wrong when team defence results in scores against.

Sort this shit out and we could be a contender.

Oh and to any ****head who says we shouldn't go for clearance midfielders because they are short needs a ****kng smack in the head.

Game lost at selection this week. We cannot play a style that gives up so many I50's and then play 5 defenders.

Ludicrous

100% agree. Just posted it in the review thread.

We're entertaining unlike so many other teams, but we get scored against far too easily. Clean that up and we'd be flag faves. Needs to be dealt with NOW

Yep, have to stop the opposition inside 50s. What's more, when they do come in they often come in without pressure giving the kicker time to weigh options and spot up a forward. Lever looked dead slow tonight. Maybe a spell in the 2s and bring in someone with more pace?

Definitely some issues however fix the easy things first.

Mackay out. Was hopeless, even more so than usual against a good team.

Henderson out. Was even worse than I remember.

Wright and VB are gone. Need to keep moving forward.

Unfortunately that won't make him faster.

Reckon we just aren't good enough yet. Laird out might have hurt us more than we think. We're missing a bit of speed without him. He chops off those short passes around their 50 that the Bulldogs thrive on.

Henderson might have been a mistake but I'll back Pyke in for picking him. Sometimes a coach needs to know that a player won't make it. I'm sure he knows now.

We've shown that we still have that tendency to play unaccountable footy and a refusal to run two ways when the opposition gets momentum. Frustrating but it's happening less.

Look at the games against the Hawks and Swans. That team was different. It had confidence. We're capable of it, and it's exciting when it shows its head. We saw it tonight when we got back to 3 points late in the fourth quarter. We were 51-15 down.

Just have to do it for longer.

Also, Otten probably would have been the man to come in, but he was suspended because an SANFL umpire decided to get in between him and his target.

Henderson had 21 touches but I can't remember him.

Their midfield had 7 players over 20 possessions we had 1.

But even if we lose a clearance it shouldn't be an automatic shot on goal.

He's a bit of an expert at cheapies in the back pocket.

Anyway, same old problem with our midfield, it's not good enough.
And doesn't defend enough. Which in turn exposes the actual defence players too often.
The way the ball can move down the field in AFL these days, it'd be a nightmare being a defender if the pressure up field is poor.

Been wanting more quality in the midfield for a while, no idea why some thought it was good enough.
To get by ok, yeah maybe so. But not to be one of the top teams.

We need to move inconsistent players like Douglas out of the team. Mackay etc.

Anyone else massively concerned with Douglas' form this year? He's gone from being a reliable role player for the last 3-4 years to mediocre. For me he goes before Mackay, but only just, Mackay, is once again shown up in the really quick high pressure games.

Finally Henderson, if you're going to pick him it can only be as a wing/hf, he can't defend and the way our midfield leaks I50's we need our defenders to defend.

Funnily enough the only disposal I remember him having is the side ways hand ball on the wing/ half forward that absolutely killed our momentum. Dumb footballer. Needs to go.

Also that stat is damning.

I concede. We are too top heavy and slow with Talia, Hartigan, Lever and Cheney. I thought Cheney could play like a medium defender but he's actually just a key position defender that's too short. He's not very good defending against medium players.

Long term, we've got to get Cheney out and replace him with Hampton or Doedee. More speed, more smarts, better for our defensive mix.

Either that or Lever has to go, but I like what Lever brings to the team. He's slower than Cheney, but a much better defender

I know our midfield lacked defensive pressure, but there were times tonight where the Bulldogs had four or five players with meters and meters of free space in their attacking 50 because our players couldn't get there.

Maybe if we played in front...
