* these lads threads are boring on the drafts and trade boards. It’s basically all you campaigners in another circle jerk.

Guess other teams posters are pretty resigned to the fact we will get them both easily.
The hopper one was a cat circlejerk and then bang 🤣

That failure wasn't down to Nank but to our midfielders. He fixed it in the second half of the game by grabbing the ball and winning clearances himself. He wasn't the reason we lost that game.

I'm prepared to accept that our midfield system as a whole failed to a large extent and no doubt all our mids were down, but in the first half when we still had Meatball, Nank was winning the vast majority of hitouts over McStay etc., but only just. There was no isolating our mids with decisive hitouts, or even just hitting consistently to the non-Neale side. No spiking the ball into attack with a 20m+ hit to gain territory on a night when that was so crucial.

Things no.1 rucks up against barely even part-timers should be comfortably capable of doing.

2nd half he grabbed the ball out of the ruck and more often than not turned it over shortly afterwards one way or another when he wasn't hitting it to Neale's area. So yes, it was a change of strategy, but it wasn't a very effective one, IMO, it just delayed them going forward by a few extra seconds now and again.

He's a ruckman, but he's also a co-captain and an on-field leader. That surely includes adapting ruck and midfield strategy to take advantage of the biggest free hit a no.1 ruck in a final could ever get. He didn't even have to deal with Fort or a capable 2nd ruck.

I love Nank, he's a many times proven finals performer and a club legend, but watching live and the replay a couple of times, I thought he was significantly more hindrance than help on the night.

Don't disagree, but I also have a feeling the club rates Ryan highly as a ruck and has a vision to make him the successor to Nank, maybe sooner than we think. If that's the case then I can understand why we'd at least entertain offers for Soldo.
With extra firepower at ground level Nank can do the job we need for a couple more years while Ryan develops further.

Yep, the same thought occurred to me and Ryan's come on a lot this year, but even in a best-case scenario with him over the next couple of years I'd prefer to avoid letting our ruck stocks drop any further after losing two just coming into prime age last year.

We'd be in serious trouble if we ended up relying on Ryan to stand up to playing 15+ games as our no.1 ruck next season. All of (a younger) Soldo, Mab and CCJ struggled with anything approaching that kind of workload at a further stage of maturity than Ryan would be.

Could even suggest a scenario like that would go a long way to negating the benefit we gain from getting our two new gun mids in.

Our problem was, while we dominated hitouts, we lost clearances. Our midfield system does indeed need a tweak. We should be fixing that with new assistant(s) next yr on top of 2 gun mids.

"The Herald Sun understands the Giants are prepared to let all of Tim Taranto, Bobby Hill, Bruhn and Jacob Hopper leave the club for the right price under a significant salary cap reappraisal.

Hopper is the contracted player who the Giants would keep in a heartbeat if the Tigers did not come up with a trade package involving two first-round picks."

I hope GWS keeps him if two 1st rounder is their price. Can pick him up as a RFA in 2023 without losing any draft picks.

Low-ball GWS on Taranto with pick 19, but settle for 12.

This is where these dumd jurno's just sound so stupid
Tanner Bruhn is on his 1st contract 0f $105,000 he will just be replaced with a player on exact same salary
Net Salary cap gain = 0

Bobby hill would be on his 2nd contract on roughly $400k and would be replaced with a player getting $100k
So between Hill & Bruhn the GWS have a salary cap saving of $300k

That leaves $1.2 million still over the cap for 2023 if Taranto & Hopper remain
If only Taranto leaves he is supposedly on $650k in 2022 and replaced by a rookie that saves them $550k
They are still over $600k over the cap and will need to increase players like Callaghan , Stone etc

Their cap is Farq'd

No chance Bobby Hill is on $400k. So the saving is even less.

Dunkley's better than Taranto, * off lol.

People have short memories. Taranto has won a BnF in a grand final team and becasue spuds like Coniglio can’t play anywhere else he has had to move out of his preferred role. I’d have Taranto ahead of Dunkley as an overall player. Dunkley would have been a great get as well.

Pee off McCartney. You're salary cap leftovers aren't worth 2 1st rounders you campaigner

Ryan has so much Liam McBean/Gourdis hype for mine.

Ultimatley guy was a late pick who has gone ok in the VFL and is probably a 20% chance of playing 100 games. Hope I’m wrong.
But KPF is genuinely an art and is hard to master...

Being a good Ruck is not as much as a challenge... so I'm not sure thats a great comparison to be honest

As much as I like Little Ivan, the thought of Soldo and Nank lining up together in a game gives me the Hmmmm's. I've defended him knowing he's coming off a knee and he is a great set shot for goal and a capable mark and decent tap ruckman. But geez he looked super slow and like Bambi on ice skates at times when the ball was below his knees. He was close to a liability at times this year.

If Nank retains the captaincy next year he will play every game barring injury, illness or extreme soreness because he is a stubborn warhorse and will just play sore and still give 100%.

So, I can't see how Ivan will get games next year unless Nank goes down (played every game this year) or Miller goes down (has passed Soldo on current output imo). So it's highly likely he toils away on the twos next year and if he played 20 games would in all probability win the bloody Liston.

Is he happy doing that, and being with the boys or will it dawn on him (and those around him) that he can probably replace Paddy Ryder at the Saints and play 20 games in the Ones and earn a half decent salary ?

Then there's Ryan and Biggie improving rapidly in the wings.

The squeeze is on.
