That will be my biggest sticking point next year and going forward

Being a senior coach would be a tough gig and given the hand that Yze has been dealt he’s hardly been set up to seceded in the short term

What will tell me if he will be our long term senior coach or just a stop gap along the way is if he grows and shows improvement

Not so much talking to the media, personally I feel that aspect is over blown by fans because at the end of the day he is hired as a coach not the PR guy so for arguments sake a savvy media performer can easily pull the wool over the eyes of the fans like a snake oil salesmen

The improvement I want to see comes from how we see the players engage with him and each other on gameday along with growth and individual improvements from young players that will also flow onto cohesive on field performances as a side
At the moment that doesn’t look good, the VFL,side is playing a different game to the AFL side a “head coach” should have a wholistic approach to the entire squad and have a philosophy on game style or game plan that is consistent, we had that during the dynasty so players were plug and play, the coaching team contributes to this

Let's all be honest here, Dimma left this list in a terrible state, set Yze up to fail IMO. Club didn't help either and wanted our next coach to believe the bullshit that our list could go again. Injuries have just amplified it really.

Newman must be thanking god he didn't get the job. The thing im critical about though is its taken Yze all year to realise our list stinks and even now im not sure he fully believes it. I think he has also fallen into the trap of letting our senior players off the hook a bit this season.
If Ouzo gets the axe in the neck Newman won’t survive either

A bit? Just the other night he was replying to the Rioli and Bolton speculation by saying both are required players. He then said how well both of them played at the weekend. Rioli was clearly BOG. Bolton was - apart from 2 goals - almost invisible.
Pissing in Bolton’s pocket to try and keep him , imo Bolton was pretty bloddy ordinary

I remember watching the VFL side in 2016, it was ridiculously fun to watch compared to the slow pathetic ness the AFL side was playing

Was only a matter of time, McCrae would become an AFL Coach

Yep so true

Why do I get the feeling that it wouldn't even enter his head to just contemplate trading him out for 2-3 first round picks.

Because we all get that feeling
We won't trade anyone, Graham will get a 4 year deal to stay, and we'll have no other picks than the ones we already have. Because our football department continue to massively overrate our list.

Now I could be wrong, but as you can see, those 3 flags in 4 years wasn't enough to remove the ingrained pessimism that comes with 37 years of continued incompetence. I'm always going to think we'll f**k everything up. And the way some of our senior guys have been let off the hook for their abysmal performances over the best part of the last 4 years, doesn't fill me with confidence.

Let's all join hands and pray to the invisible man that I'm wrong.

Only taken a season but I'm on the nah side. Also reckon we will stuff this trade / draft period right up.

I'm with Hoos on this one.

Yep my concern is not Yze or him alone but that the whole club seems to be asleep at the wheel.

We get spoon fed not to live in the past and to move on (fluff pieces about Yze taking down memorabilia) but you can't help but feel like it's the whole club still living in the past. Our selection of senior players over trying to get games into the younger guys showing a bit in the VFL (Short, Graham, Pickett, McIntosh) you know if they never got injured the season would have gone down the toilet the same way but now we can use the injury excuse card. Trying to hold on to Graham & Baker, not wanting to trade Bolton and Rioli, even during the year hoping Dusty signs on again. Thank god Dusty had enough brains to say enoughs enough.

Your talking alot of hypothetical here if and but etc.

Mate to much focus on Yze for me his inherited a lot of the issues because of poor decisions. Football department and hierarchy need accountability and a revamp been poor last 2 seasons.

True, but I also feel like, and it might be because he is new to coaching, so doesn't want to ruffle any feathers but he is towing the line to the determent of our list. Unfortunately, if he keeps that up the club will just blame him when it becomes worse.

Yze is the only voice coming out of the apart from Gale at Dusty's retirement. Yze has little or no say in actual list management decisions. Whats Yze said in response to qns about Baker.....Baker has to weigh the offers up. Same for Graham, he will have to weigh our & WCE offers up. Its not even trade period. See what happens.
When it comes Bolton, Rioli, they might depart.
Soldo left last year, we don't get in the way if a player wants out.

How Graham, Kmac, Short are walk up starts is staggering to me. The inability to have a senor player in the VFL, again has partly delivered the spoon.
Melbourne FC have no problem doing it, so Yze has seen 2 systems in action.

Gale sounded angry at the Martin presser. I hope that means a few changes with assistants & fitness dept.

Spot on. And even experimenting with McIntosh forward- why?
