I am reserving judgement on Yze coz it’s too early to judge yet unless you give weight to camels, photos, facial expressions and blokes who may well just be selfish pr*cks who want to be playing finals every year even though they were lucky enough to win flags.

But it feels like people potting Yze are hoping/looking for a scapegoat and that removing him will solve all our problems. It won’t. How is Clarko going at North?

Regardless

Yze pitched an easy transition, new energy and was vocal about a top four finish

Copped horror injuries but kept trying to play the 'down the line' gameplan without a decent tall target to bring the ball to ground

The playing group is in disharmony, a firesale of talent, the worst season in our afl history, and coaches leaving before the seasons closure. You got to say Yze's first season was an abysmal failure - the worst first season of a new coach in my memory.

However, boys played good, were competitive except for the Lions, dogs matches and 10 minutes of the Carlton match, I wasn't too horrified, we werent getting results though.

Best to completely erase this year from our memory and try again. No more excuses for Yze - sort out the strength and conditioning, stop playing Dow in the midfield and get yourself a gameplan that works to the strength of the list you've got - there's no max gawn at Richmond

I hear ya
But this guys a back pocket specialist with some campaigner about him remember
Historically, exactly the type who make great coaches.

It’s just an extension of the “Americanisation” of our game
Player movement is only going to continue to get more and more common
Barassi moved clubs in 1964.

1967 Graeme Richmond pulled in players from local suburb, local VIC district, WA, TAS, SA .
Even Rex Hunt & Andrews swapping clubs 74 or so was a precursor to mid season trading.

Player movement has been part of the game. The draft does doesn't change that dimension.

Other aspects of the draft are US sport inspired.

Again when did he say we will finish top4?

Quote bellow comes from the link above:

"I want our players walking into the footy club thinking that they can make the top four next year, but we won't put a ceiling on it" Yze said.

So, not only he believed that the Tigers can reach the top four, but this wasn't even the ceiling, they could actually do better.

Lots of words, very little delivered….

We haven't had a group of senior players head for the door at the end of this year since Wood, Raines and Cloke did at the end of 82 under Francis Bourke. Maurice Rioli tried to also and we held on to him.

Bourke was a mistake; the players didn't respect him as a coach and it resulted in 30yrs+ of pain. Let's hope history doesn't repeat but so far its going the same way.

Bolton, Dusty, Baker, Rioli & Graham all exiting has to tell you something is not right at the joint. Even Spud and Terry Wallet managed to hold on to our best players. Only Brad Ottens pee'd off when Spud was in charge.
Matty White + Higgins the other genuine walk-outs I can think of - very rare.

Great post, thank you.

Me thinks and well known those players back than left because they got peed off the amount of money Rioli was on and on top of that Raines left cause rioli took his spot in the Centre. Bourke was hard on them no more than Hafey would have been. Big mistake that bring in Rioli no matter how good he was destroyed the club. Same thing was going to happen when they were offering the world forget his name another west Australian Stephen Michael.?

He absolutely said in his introductory videos we 'should be aiming for top 4'
Every club should be aiming high. I can see the melt down if he trying to sell to the public and the members. We are shit we will be bottom 3 for the next few years. Good PR. Nothing wrong with setting high targets in life and at work. would also help having a FULL availability of players which seem many over look. Can Aim for a top finish he never said we would do it though.

Before 2017, everyone here thought Dimma was too soft on the players.

Turned out it was actually the other way.
Hardwick was too soft with a specific number of players. He had his favourites and that was the issue. It came back in a pile of shit to haunt him again in the last three years and results went back to pre 2016. When Balme , Caracella and the new assistants came we became team focused and everyone was treated and valued equally. This was how we became a family club . Mini continued the rot of the Buddy system and Yze wasn’t much better . This is why I believe our gun senior players want out as we’ve lost that family feel about us and standards were dropped bc only one fringe senior player was dropped all year. I’m still giving Yze a reprieve as I maybe wrong with the senior players theory, but he’s going to be critiqued next year as all excuses will be thrown out of the window.
We were a disaster this year with team selection, sub selection/ activation, medical, fitness, discipline, Gale etc so we can now only wait to see what happens. Maybe Yze appeared soft bc he was basically stepping on eggshells all year with so much happening and it really wasn’t anywhere near the perfect environment for a first year coach to walk into.

Yep that’s how it reads unless I was educated differently. 😂

He needs time. My take is he's not ambitious enough yet. Be aggressive. We're a big club, we don't want to be shit for 10 years. Talk tough and be brave. Put it on the line. Benny's 5 year plan was roundly laughed at but he did it. Recruit players you can coach, not necessarily stars. And not fgn robots like geelong

Hardwick is exactly what makes a good coach, he's a prick and uncomplicated, especially when back to the wall. He'll never be that again tho cos he's had the glory. Yzes baptism of fire is good if he now says fk u and goes hard. If not then career as backline coach or footy dept nobody like al Richardson.

um-no-speechless.gif

It's almost like common sense doesn't apply when discussing Yze

He going to say the same thing about aiming for top 4 next year? No chance as he knows we’re nowhere near it

Ergo selling hope aside he must have thought we were at least a chance last year to have said it. That’s the point they’re making going by those comments that he misjudged where we’re at. It’s pretty hard to dispute

A lot of our own fans have misjudged our list to be honest lol.

How did he misjudge it?

When he said it I'm sure he didn't expect to be dealing with an unprecedented injury list that saw a number of our best players sitting in the stands through the middle of the year.

Let's not forget that before that happened we'd beaten Sydney, ran with Carlton all the way with 3 players out due to injury in game and got within 5 goals of Port who were flying at that stage.

Surely a bit of common sense enters this discussion eventually
