Thank, Mate, good find!

Interesting list of players: I can remember most of hem.
Was a big fan of Barry Rowlings and was shattered when they cleared him to Richmond.
Yep 22 was my 1st number and mum hated me for it, having to hand sew the number 22 on both my woolen hawks jumper and duffel coat.

His draft position means nothing now

we have a kid who was highly rated as a junior but then got drafted by the Suns

he's on good coin so we got him cheap in picks

he's had his issues but he's at the club he grew up barracking for

I'm excited to see what the club can do with him and hope he becomes another successful trade for us

Not putting any pressure on him though, could take a while to find his feet in our system
I would have thought that when a contracted player agrees to a trade he also agrees to a new contract: which could be anything from minimum wage to Dusty levels. Can anyone confirm?

The Hawthorn strategy

Keen on the kid during his draft year but could never get him with the draft picks at our disposal. Just sit tight and get him in 2 years. See Gunston.

It's what Port in all their posturing are threatening to do this year.

Hawthorn just does it professionally and quietly

He is a similar player to Finlayson it seems (according to his draft bio anyway). Glad to have him come across, especially at that price.

He’s very similar in style to Birchall/Sicily.

A tall utility/non-KPP who isn’t strong in one-on-ones, but can intercept mark very well when his confidence is up. His run-carry-kicking game is very good and he’s clean and smart at ground level.

Right now, opposition sides will look to drag him deep and/or play through his opponent in the air. Once the ball hits the deck he goes to work. Just needs to get it to ground in the first place.

Key area to work on is nullifying an opponent. If he can develop some Ben Stratton type defensive traits, he’ll be a ripper.

FWIW - I coached him in 2016 and see him as being similar to Sicily at the same age in many respects.

Contract law would take precedent over anything the AFL 'legislates'. Sometimes that player does agree to a contract change, but they have the right to not agree - to insist that they see out their current contract. Most recent big case I recall is Trav Cloke, who I understand did take a pay cut to swap clubs and play seniors rather than VFL, and to feel better about himself...

It’s true but why would he take minimum wage from us when he is contracted for a lot more?
He won’t be on minimum wage - he’s already played 4 AFL games.

He will be on well less than $400k at HFC I’d suspect, but factoring in moving back into the family home and training being 20-30 minutes away, it’s a compromise he and the clubs have no doubt been willing to make.

We get a highly rated 20 year old for a 2019 pick shuffle and probably save $100k - $200k on payments if Burton goes to PA in a deal to get Wingard.

GC get some salary cap relief and a player they clearly don’t rate any more off their books.
