I don't want to alarm anyone, but the whole us poaching ex-roos thing seems to have MASSIVELY improved relations between the two boards.

not what i thought we were going for :~(

Don't worry NOT SonOfBrad has made sure relations have soured again.

So what's the word on crazy vossy? His name hasn't come up much lately, are we looking at him or is Harvey our preference as a senior mentor in the coaches box?

NOT SonOfBrad has managed to piss alot of the Norf folk off it seems, pretty funny. Wouldn't mind some background on it all though, is it just because it's Norf?

It's more because it's Reep.;)

West Coast chairman Alan Cransberg last night refused to speculate on who might fill the senior assistant's position, but said the club was keen to appoint a well-known, experienced AFL coaching identity.
Cransberg said the club's coaching structure had been at the centre of intensive meetings this week between Simpson, chief executive Trevor Nisbett and football operations manager Craig Vozzo. But he said there would be a priority on the senior assistant position, with interviews likely to start immediately.
The club would give Simpson significant "ownership" on the appointments.
"One of the needs, given that we'll have a pretty young coaching team, is to get some experience in there," Cransberg said.

In today's West they mentioned Harvey and Voss is available. They made a point about getting some experience into the side to help out Simpson.

They also mentioned Brett Ratten, Neil Craig,Dean Laidley, Brett Ratten,

Would like something like this :

Senior Ass: Voss
Strategy innovations coach : Harvey
Forward: Longmuir
Defense: Basset
Midfield: Scott West
Development Recruiting : Brady Rawlings
Skills Coach : Dean Kemp

Wouldn't even mind Ratten as mid coach as he has been doing alright this year for the Hawks in that role.

Yeah rattan was a bit stiff Carlton , but why would hawks let him go then

I like the words coming from the club. Ultimately giving Simpson carte blanche to bring his preferred type of people with the security of a couple of senior assistants and strategy/innovation coaches who've been around the block. It allows us to use our money to cast the net wide, while Simmo gets to take ownership as Cransberg alludes to.

To be perfectly frank it seems like we're still surveying the marketplace so I'm not reading too much into who is going where, but the attitude seems spot on.

I am liking Cransberg...he seems more hands on and open to the public but not in your face like Eddie.

He's only been doing press because of the amount of staffing changes we've had amidst the busiest off-field portion of the year for our footy staff (Recruitment, List Management etc). It's necessary, but he'll probably reduce his presence pretty soon, once all necessary appointments are filled.

Either way, he seems like the type who rolls his sleeves up and gets shit done when it needs to be done, which I like.

Simon Black linked to Sydney role....need to move faster boys otherwise we will be left with sweet f all.

Likewise: I thought WC would make a huge play to get Simon Black .. and yes all the good ones are going while we are sitting on our proverbial again. It seems nobody wants to come west and coach our list??

We are under the pump to fill these roles , so don't expect the best candidates because most are tied up.
Harv's is available but suspect he still has friends down at Freo so he may pass this one up.
Rawlings has no experience as a coach, he was NM development/ scout man so I don't know why everyone is getting so excited about this bloke.Whats with all the NM people anyway????
Your better off having a mix form different clubs.

TBH Im a little worried , we have a first time coach , no real experience around him, no quality experienced line coaches ,makes players very nervous when the coaches are inexperienced.

Im not so sure that the board anticipated all the experienced heads would leave ,this may be a recipe for a disaster, What will you all say if it all goes pear shaped next year?????
Suma might not of been such a bad choice after all .

I noted both Jade and Brady Rawlings names mentioned in the West Australian: It maybe a case of if you want one you need to employ the other not sure I like this. Neil Craig umph, Brett Ratten mmmm
Dean Laidley at least he'd give some bark but I think he will stay with Scotty Watters, unless he thinks this will be Scotty's last year in the gig. So who do we REALLY WANT.

Still has friends at Freo so what? So many coaches have friends at other clubs they have been does that mean they all will not go there.

I wouldnt worry about it guys. Simpson is hardly a shrinking violet and so as long as he feels he has a group that backs him in to implement his plans effectively then thats what we need at this stage. We need to see if what he has in mind will work and the first year will be about making some changes, but also assessing the playing group he has at his disposal. If the club feels after the first year that he could use some senior assistance we can look at getting someone for the following season. That way we will have more time to approach people and make a decent offer. I'm looking forward to Simpson having a crack at changing things up. :)

I'm looking forward to him getting rid of all the duds on our list.

Rawlings has experience as a development coach, having someone who is involved not just in the recruiting of players but also in the shaping of them as footballers is something we haven't done. We don't know what role Rawlings would be doing just yet.

If anything it sounds like the structure of football department might be in for a big shake up. I think the club was looking a little further than 2014 when they appointed Simpson.

Well as long as the masses don't expect instant success and are prepared to just give him couple of years to see us come good.
If not ,we will see what hes really made of,
Its a big job coming in as an outsider and shaking things up,
Malthouse did it, cant see why it cant be done again.
BTW why arnt we looking at WFL coaches, guys like Malaxos , would be a great mentor .
