What the hell is up with Burgiel this season? I know he's had a lot of discontinuity, but looks extremely slow and disinterested compared to the glimpses we saw last year. Wondering if his hamstring issues have had a diminishing effect on his athleticism or something. BOND 007 maybe any insights?

Comparing the early signs of, say, Johnston and A.Reid, to Burgiel and Barnett, the 2R-onwards 2023 cohort is looking favourable to the year prior that we were all so enthusiastic about.
He was very good today at least in the first 3 quarters

Culley, Hutchinson and Brockman to come in next week. Maybe even Jamieson, he was good, and I like him better than H. Edwards as he is quicker and more agile. Dewar did some nice things too - just needs some serious time in the gym, Baker too - they are still very much lightweights.
Good win!

Need to let players come in for multiple games if they are playing OK and improving.

H Edwards was good so he stays.

We need to fatten up a fringe tall defender for trade and get them some exposure. So it's between Harry and Jamo.

Definitely keep Harry in v North and Hawks if he keeps improving.

The hamstring surgeries would be having a massive impact

I thought that Brockman's last quarter efforts and impact in winning the ball out of the centre and bursting out of the contest were a significant factor in the win.

That was a facet of his game that I had not seen from him before and it was impressive.

Absolutely agree, he has a long way to go to be a consistent contributor at AFL level but if he can add the odd CBA string to his bow it would make him a lot more valuable at AFL level. Tends to get a bit lost further up the ground, particularly when the ball is spending more time in opposition possession. Before Willie defected we often threw him into the CBA for a similar role. Can see a situation in the dying minutes when we need a couple of goals in quick time where we just role the dice and send Brockman in setting up on the fly or forward of centre if Flynn is rucking.

I think he may be more of a part time midfielder or even wing than a forward pocket. Not a natural set shot for goal.

Definitely worth persisting with even though he stuffed up.

Because he's pissed about playing wafl and has or is doing something about it. Performance warrants selection. Don't just gift games because players are high picks doing nothing

Do we dare say Brockman has turned a corner?

Could be the event in his life that makes him into a gun

Here's hoping for both us and him

AFL involves a lot of hard work. But it pays well - and hopefully provides job satisfaction. For some players it might take a while to realise truck driving, shelf stacking or being a labourer doesn’t cut it in comparison.

And if you happen to be better at footy than anything else, and better at it than most, maybe you just need something to jolt you into realising it’s probably now or never.

Sadly , there be must be many naturally talented players who blow their chances and reflect on how they could’ve set themselves up for life. Must be a bugger at 40, 50, 60, dragging yourself out of bed every day to go to some dead end job knowing it didn’t have to be like this.

I think the best thing about the Win was it was the kids who stood up. Looking at the AFL listed players & Brockman would be the most experienced at AFL level by a fair few games. The rest have only played a handful of games. It’s good to see.

How was Halls game for those who watched? statistically it looks great with good numbers & plenty of clearances.

I didn’t watch it but the comments regarding Barnett this season isn’t great. It’s not as if he is a twig. Drafted with a decent frame for his age and isn’t that far off from an AFL ruckmens frame and yet he is struggling at this level. Hopefully he can put some runs on the board later in the year.

In his defence it was his first game in six weeks.

Good from a production point of view but he's not comfortable yet. His usage was sub par. More from nerves than and disposing earlier than needed than poor skills. Needs more time.
