Doubt it

Probably for the best - already 2 goals to zip 5 minutes in

Clark, Witherden and Hewett all playing to get the extra minutes

SPS, Long, Winder, LEdwards, Burgiel, Foley, West and Trew all playing as well from what I could make out
Culley out there too.

It's almost as if the personnel doesn't matter when the gameplan is no good and easily picked apart

I just hope much of this result is down to training loads and the club comes out with a lot more vigour in two weeks, similar to start of 2018.

Adelaide ran us into the ground. First quarter was similar to R5 against Sydney last year when they blew the team away with ground coverage and lane running. D.Burgess having an impact.

What to take from that? Ginbey looks to be a hell of a player in the making, and aside from McGovern, Barrass (and to a lesser extent Shuey) our experienced players were the worst on the ground.

Here's hoping the next two weeks allow players time to refocus and face North with a level of intensity that was sorely absent today.

Still have a side trying to play like rockstars it seems.

When we are so slow why aren't we blocking, shepherding and otherwise trying to make space for the fella with the ball? Instead everyone sags off trying to get a cheapy. Ball carrier gets tackled or bloke. Looking for a cheapy is shut down before the ball arrives.

Our work in close has to be worst in the league.

Ginbey really impressive, the hype is justified. The BBIBWBLF.

Shuey was good I thought. Solid off half back and still very dangerous pitch hitting at the stoppages.

Hunt looks a good addition. Rotham had a couple of nice moments. Allen rusty but will be better for the run. Jamieson solid too.

Plenty of negatives. Sheed and Gaff both very average. Kelly terrible and doesn’t even have the excuse of coming back from injury - incredibly outside game

Well I was excited for the season, but then watched that crap so was quickly having flash backs of last year.

But how the hell are Darling and Allen the only key forwards on the list? Waterman is a 3rd tall at best, so if one of Darling or Allen are missing the forwardline is farked.

How did we not pickup a mature ruckman. Baffling. Barnett will be thrown before he is ready.

Sheed Gaff Kelly should be turfed for round 1 but wont be

Jilliams is a key forward too.

Its going to be a long season with our shit midfield and Williams/jamo rucking.

Hopefully the next crop of mids will learn to be effective without silver service .

Defence put under the absolute pump due to zero midfield pressure .

Kelly would it hurt to actually try playing some defence .

Sheed soft as butter and a witches hat .

No culley WTF

Only managed to tune into the last qtr

Smashed from contested ball to the outside run. Always out numbered after the fall of the ball.

Sloppy handballs

And Chippety chip chip kick is back.

Not unexpected. Let's see how we go in the first few games.

Good question.

Answer : nothing. Career must be hanging by a thread.

He gets the ball, goes round in a circle, doesn’t know what to do with it, does an ineffectual disposal, puts a team mate under the pump, or turns it over.

Into his fifth season I think. Along with Foley, he was a poor pick.

Zero hurt factor.

O'Neill is entering his fifth season at the club - he isn't going to provide anything new that we haven't already seen.

Just lacks attributes that are damaging at the highest level.

14 disposals, 0 score involvements.

Don’t get the anger tbh. We need another good draft hand before we make a serious rebuild.
The anger is we haven’t really got our head out of the sand and are still trying to play the old faithful when an 18 year old just showed more promise and heart than premiership players have for 3 years straight.

We’re not going to win many games and the rebuild has just started, but we aren’t even playing a daring gamestyle and going down swinging. We’re still losing from slow kick to kick turnovers in the back half or getting sliced through on the rebound.

You could handle it if it was just a bunch of kids being too rash and getting outplayed but this is so far the opposite way and still yielding the same results as a young side would, except with zero upside.

Simple fact is that the majority of our list is one paced or well below average pace and that’s not going to cut it in this age. This is one on one football now, no room for players that get carried in a “team defence” or a role based gameplan. Beat your direct opponent or you’re f*cked

Agree, we didn’t have to go out and try and win the game at all costs but we could have used it as an exercise in breaking bad habits. Things like you’d teach at Auskick like urgency in getting up and back off the mark quickly so you can move the ball.

Instead we used it as a chance to get some more miles in some legs without getting hurt.

Let’s see how it goes in the real stuff, if things really change or we find a new convenient excuse for the fourth year running.

Adelaide beat Melbourne and Geelong in 2021 at peak rebuild because they were having a deadset crack, that’s all we want to see.
Adelaide screwed their 2018 and 2019 drafts, drafted 3 of the same type of player in 2021, and traded their first 2022 pick for exactly the same type of player again.

Adelaide may have been in rebuild for the last 5 drafts, but they've drafted a lot of the same type of players.

Going back to 2017, they've drafted 3 talls that look good in Fogarty, Thilthorpe and Michalanney, otherwise they've drafted 5 small inside mids and 4 small half forwards, and traded for Rankine, another small half forward.

They have a fair amount of pace and skill around and ahead of the ball, but almost no size. Their still short of quality KPP's at either end, and don't yet have one or two young potential superstar mids they need.

If West Coast nail their next two drafts, and there's a lot of luck in the right players being available at your picks, you're probably only a year behind Adelaide in terms of rebuild. Adelaide might be more competitive in the short term, but their current ceiling isn't a potential finals team yet. I'd take Norths or Hawthorns list ahead of Adelaide's right now.

Duffield reporting a suspected fractured elbow for Rotham after a collision with Dawson in the 3rd term

The one where Dawson came back with the flight of the ball and crashed into Rotham who was coming up to meet it inside 50. No free kick of course

I did notice him coming off looking pretty sore afterwards and Waterman spent time in the ruck following it

Who do you play instead of Waterman tonight?

Ditto Rotham?

Actually try considering their positions, size, the fact that it's a pre-season game and players are on managed minutes, etc.

Like I said, use brain plz.
Rothman was nowhere near our worse and Waterman had no supply. Waterman kicked 6 last week.

My fear with Hurn continues. He's a smart old dog and that's good enough for him to be best 22. Adequate defender and intercept mark because he can use his smarts and positioning. I get that he's also a vocal influence on the team out there which may accelerate the development of our youth, but I think he is offering less and less offensively, and our ball use stagnates through him which is counter intuitive to the supposed game plan.

If he really wants to impart his knowledge on the youth I think 20 games in the WAFL teaching the kids would help. They'll be seeing plenty of ball in the backline too.

No disrespect to our elder statesmen, but we can't prioritize Hurn unless he finds his offensive flair, and I won't even start on Shuey carrying on as captain.

That aside, all aboard the Ginbey 🚂
