More evidence of WA's improvement at junior development in the School Sport Australian U15s -- WA finished second overall to Queensland in the final by 8 points. Our 5 All-Australians were Evie Cowcher, Olivia Wolmarans, Mia Russo, Maya Louvel-Finn and Carys D'Addario. There's no team lists on the internet that I can see, be interesting to see how many of the best from each state actually attended. The Vics only won 2 games, so either a) lots of their best didn't play, or b) the 10 Vic AFLW teams drawing on that talent pool will be getting nervous.

Good news. You only needed to be at Revo Oval for the WAFLW GF. The talent in the Rogers Cup was pleasing and the number of young girls hanging around and engaged in football tells me there is a wave coming.

I am looking forward to the Vic teams realising that 10 into their talent is poor. I recall that the Qld corridor is considered the fastest developing junior football area in Australia so expect Qld to be really strong

Queensland has 5.2 million people, so if their participation rate in girls footy matches the traditional footy-playing states (just because boys prefer rugby doesn't mean girls will), the Lions and Suns will kill everyone. It's one reason the AFLW wants a national draft as soon as possible, or at least a mechanism to spread the talent more evenly. Or else they'll have a comp with Queensland on top, then WA and SA, then Vics and NSW always down the bottom. Unless NSW girls go the Queensland way, of course, in which case the Vics will be all clustered down the bottom alone.

Now seeing the crying "woe is me" is something I like.

The mechanism for a national draft is simple - increase the EBA and pay them a decent wage. The idea about freezing the men's EBA had merit but I cannot see Marsh or Dangerfield seeing it happen. This is literally a case of you cannot have your cake and eat it. The ALFPA want to reduce the demands on football - it would be easy. Reduce the number of games to 17 home and away (do it over a 4 year period) and have the AFLW either start 6 weeks early or finish 6 weeks after. Alas, I sense Mr Marsh more aligned with Dangerfield whereby the male stars get more and do less.

I think there are going to be some very good players cut who otherwise won't deserve it. The talent coming is huge. But, some of those will probably get picked up by other clubs.

I wonder if they’ll expand list sizes? A 30 player list for a season of 10 games plus finals is pretty razor-thin.

Absolutley it is. 100%

But not all of these talented kids will have the grit or determination to go next level. There will be natural attrition.

Given the bottom half of the team will be cut for the 2024/25 drafts, I'm not sure long term upside will count for much.
I am thinking that the list sizes may well be extended by 2024/25. A list of 30 is pretty limiting. I am also expecting the number of games to be played to increase.

With that in mind, I don't think the churn will be quite as drastic for us.

In three years time, we will have 7 of our current list aged over 30. That will leave just 25 players who are under 30 come 2025.

When you look at our under 22 players, the future is pretty decent.

Getting our running capacity up is a must and glad they are focussed on it.

I walk a fine line saying the muscle and tone definition with our team v say Brisbane was evident. Lions sprinted off at interchanges while many of our team were stumbling to get over the boundary line

Strange we can have rolling commentary on Nics belly - as in 100s of posts throughout our board discussing his physical condition - but we daren't suggest Camo might not be in great nick.

She won't be here come next season if she doesn't bring her fitness and conditioning up to spec, or at least she really shouldn't be. It seemed pretty contradictory to see Swanny waxing lyrical about bringing standards and fitness up with Cameron looking to be in the same shape she always has been.

On the plus side, Swanny, Sedge, Hooker and Bluey Lewis look to be in freakishly good nick. With these Ladies as role models and frontrunners hopefully the young ones will strive to attain the strength and conditioning required to advance.

It’s something we’ve discussed at WAFLW level as well.

Weights aren’t on the website whereas mens are.

There’s are lots of differences with a women v men psyche - it’s just the way it is. I know I learn this every day in my house lol

Looking forward to the derby. Would have love to have gone but Auskick duties with daughter #3 takes precedent.

Big one is off to game, to support the Purples….. not a lot I can do there when’s she’s actually becoming mates with them 🥲

I'm actually quietly excited to see how the girls go. Definitely saying all the right things pre-season so hopefully we can be a bit more competitive this season.

Why cant we, given you just did?

If we can, why hasn't anyone, given our propensity to slag NN in every thread possible? Add Gov, Willie and Ryan to that list.

I think you know as well as I do that commenting on a woman's body in this day and age is not encouraged.

If Cameron was getting paid what Nic Nat was, and if the majority of supporters viewed the women's comp the way they viewed the men's, she would be.

Amongst those that pay attention to the women's team, her weight and fitness is mentioned quite a bit.

That there are people who don't like the idea of a woman's weight being discussed, and who might object if it was, wouldn't stop that discussion from occurring, if she had Nic Nat like status.
