With the addition of a hard inside mid in Gomes, here is the updated position by age profile. Starting to see some hard edges in as inside mids

Happy to get suggestions for corrections on classification.

I do realise Roberts can basically play anywhere so I have given her my highest ranking of balanced midfielder. Kind of like our Bont/Dusty - where would you like to play her?
Something like what Erin played for the Crows at her best -- switching between midfield and forward, and causing havoc as the opposition struggles to switch matchups. Most midfield matchups can't defend against her marking in the forward 50, and most proper defenders can't match her mobility up the field. Switch between them, make them sweat.

I like it. 👍

Perfect. This is exactly what we need.

Build an army around her.

I think Schmidt will be playing a KPF role.

Thinking about going to watch the game this Saturday. What's the viewing like at MRP? Are there any stands? I generally like watching with some elevation for better viewing... Thanks in advance!

There are stands there, but they’re from 1943 so not the most comfortable. Might be better bringing a comfy camping chair and parking on the hill around the ground.

Good suggestion on the chairs however the * won’t let you bring chairs into MRP.

So it’s the old crappy bench seats in the grandstand, or you park your arse on the grass.

The facilities for spectators at MRP are archaic and in poor condition.

If the Eagles want to get better crowds to the AFLW games then they need to throw some cash around to upgrade the seating arrangements at MRP.

They start doing that, then I know they are serious about AFLW

Thanks gents, think I might just lean on the fence or sit on the hill... Hahaha. It honestly wouldn't cost much to invest in some viewing infrastructure 🙄

Kate Bartlett has unfinished business at West Coast.

Originally drafted by the Western Bulldogs in 2018, the Peel Thunder product debuted in the final round of her maiden AFLW season but was on-traded to the Eagles for the club’s inaugural season.

Delisted without playing a game, Bartlett thought her time in the blue and gold was up. But she could not have predicted what was to come.

In 2020, she won a premiership with Peel Thunder after being released by West Coast. In 2021, she won a second flag and also took out the WAFLW’s leading goal kicker award with 38 majors.

And in 2022, she booted 39 goals in just 12 games, including a bag of eight against West Perth.

So when West Coast offered her a contract a few weeks before the AFLW draft, Bartlett’s first order of business was to take back ownership of her old No.20 guernsey.

“I have a lot of unfinished business here,” Bartlett said.

“I was a train-on last AFLW season. Mick (coach Michael Prior) said to me, ‘What’s your aim here?’ and I told him ‘I have a point to prove.’

“I’m stoked because I grew up supporting the Eagles. I want to pull on those colours for a game and put my best foot forward.”

The key, it proved, to earning another chance was work rate.

Everyone knew Bartlett could kick a goal. But Peel coaching staff haven’t seen the 22-year-old work as hard as she has this year, pushing further up the ground to average 12.1 touches per game.

“I wanted to really prioritise strength and conditioning and getting the best out of myself at Peel putting in the hard yards,” Bartlett said.

“I wanted to play consistent footy. I hit the scoreboard a lot more and changed my game.

“I think what changed was getting my hands on the footy more.

“I’ve learnt to put in the hard yards. Even when times get tough, you’ve just got to keep going because it’s all worth it.”

Bartlett also took it upon herself to bring her teammates into the game, forming a strong on-field understanding with Ella Roberts and Jaide Britton which is set to continue after the pair were also drafted to West Coast.

“Jaide kicks the ball into the forward line so I worked a lot with her on hitting targets and our patterns which improved my game but also her game,” Bartlett said.

“I’m stoked to have Ella here as well. We had a great connection at Peel and it’s been pretty evident on the track and on game day. We know how each other play which is going to be really beneficial.”

I have just finished writing to Trevor Nisbett (trevorn@westcoasteagles.com.au) to highlight the facilities at Lathlain Park being a joke.

I have requested a meeting with him and a challenge that he immediately look at moving the games to Claremont or East Fremantle Oval so as to be (a) appealing to members to go and (b) inclusive for all abilities. At the moment, I do not believe Lathlain Park would pass a disability all inclusive inspection. That is coming from a club that tens of millions in the bank. I did suggest that Trevor and his wife join my wife and I in the old 1940's grand stand and see it from a supporter's perspective.

Either spend the money or go to a proper venue.

Think about who will want to go for a crap venue!

The WAFLW grand final at Claremont was a buzz. Great seats. Great facilities. Great food and drink options.

I question whether Trevor has been in the role for too long.

Actually a far better update than the men's ever is IMO. Genuine news not just 'Yep Petch is tracking well after his 69th hamstring strain'

For a regular pleb like me who doesn't know that much about these things it's cool to hear specifics on what they're looking for in recovery with muscle symmetry, what they're doing pre-surgery with switching on muscles etc. And explains Zoe's illness situation rather than just not mentioning her.

Not that this necessarily means the team's in better hands S+C wise but there's just something more reassuring about how it reads, I dunno

But no mention of the two main injury concerns, Hooker and Thomas, and if they will play this week.

What’s up with Charlie?

What’s up with Charlie?
Her and Hooker didn’t play against Freo in scratch match because she they were injured.
You’d presume that no mention of them in the injury report means they are right to go.
Just strange that they are first choice players and aren’t mentioned and Z Wakfer is who probably wouldn’t get a game even if fit.

Can we have proper game day threads this year instead of one thread hidden amongst the stickies that no one sees unless they're looking for it?
Ochre - I heard your call and have answered it

Why does the AFLW Eagles team not have their own forum (or subforum)?

They are separate to the WCE and should be given the opportunity to forge their own identities.
Same reason the WAFL team doesn't. They're different teams but they're all part of the same football club.

My last comment on this topic and then I'll let it go.
Eagles & Beagles are same team because the players move between seniors to ressies. So we're speaking about the same players, continuity of issues, etc.

AFLW is completely separate, and if anyone were ever to come on here wanting to discuss AFLW (such as young women looking for a community such as what us blokes did when we found BF), they'd be drowned out by the topics about the mans team.

If people want to come on here to discuss AFLW they'll just stay in the AFLW threads, a lot of people on here have areas they care about more that most, be it the draft, the WAFL, the off field side of the club and it doesn't seem to effect them or anything else if they just keep to those threads, I don't see why this would be different.
