Western Australian State Cricket Team: Treble Winners. Again

Pretty comprehensive win in the end - stoked to see Cooper growing in confidence. Also rings home just how critical Turner is in this lineup - really is the absolute general in terms of setting the pace during a chase.

Not too worried about the imports given almost all our internationals have started slow.

If everyone was fully fit and available, what would be the strongest XI that the Warriors could put out? Both in Sheffield Shield and One Day Cup formats?
I’ll take a punt, on Shield at least.

Whiteman
Bancroft
Connolly
Hardie
Cartwright
Inglis
Turner
Richardson
Paris
Rocchiccioli
Morris

Turner could be exchanged for Goodwin, perhaps. Fanning, Wyllie waiting in the wings, as well as Kelly, Couch, Gannon.

Goodwin is 11th on runs this year tbf, and I don't really see Connolly as a 3 long term

Spot on....in red ball cricket Goodwin is more of a long term 3 than Connolly, Hardie at 4, Connolly at 5 and Inglis at 6.....wouldn't mind Wyllie coming in for Whiteman or Bancroft....even get the young fella from Freo with the Saffie surname ...Hoogenbouzen - or something like that

Solid team, no Marsh or Green? This would include if guys weren't on international duty either.

I could accept Goodwin at 3, Connolly later, Turner out. But if I’m making room for one of Connolly or Goodwin, it’s Connolly. He performed in the pressure of the Shield final, he’s excelling at BBL, he would have played ahead of Goodwin and Fanning if he wasn’t on international duty, then injured. He’s the future, imo.

Geez, that makes it even tougher. If I’m honest, I think Marsh gets squeezed out by the combo of Green and Hardie. White ball specialist.

Marsh easily makes the team if available

He has barely played shield but dominated when he did the last couple of years
I mean, his current red ball form suggests otherwise (albeit against the world’s best bowler). Green is ahead of him every day of the week (State and National). Not sure I’d drop Hardie for him and I’d be loath to play three all rounders as the balance of the team would be way off.

He'd play. Like, sure, he's not playing well right now but there's a bit of difference between Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj and Deep and McAndrew, Buckingham and Doggett

He’s a a 33-year-old with a FC average the same as his age (I can’t isolate his Shield average, maybe someone can help). It’s not like he’s a giant of FC cricket. Would be first picked for white ball but I think I’m picking Hardie ahead of him. Cartwright is in good form this season. I guess you could drop Connolly for him but three all rounders from 3-5 and sacrificing the future (who is in form himself) is not a choice I’d make.

If it comes down to Goodwin v Turner it has to be Goodwin. He’s not even two years older than Connolly and now starting to get going especially at 3. That 3 position is the hardest spot to bat at and bar Green everyone isn’t suited for that role

My 2c from an outside perspective:

Whiteman
Green (I see it happening long term, think WA will be under instruction here)
Goodwin
Cartwright
Marsh
Connolly
Inglis
Rocchiccioli
3x Paris/Richardson/Morris/Couch/Kelly
