Any news for yesterdays vote for the casterton sandford merger???

MERGER TALKS STALLED

http://www.spec.com.au/blog/2013/11/27/merger-talks-stalled/

LAST-MINUTE legal advice stymied Casterton Football-Netball Club members from voting on the proposed Casterton-Sandford merger last Sunday.
But, an expression of interest vote taken by the club was overwhelmingly in favour of the merger with 160 people voting for the merger, 39 against and five people abstained from voting.

Sounds like it will still go ahead, dont understand why you would vote against a merger if your club is struggling.
Still no word on north and mcconnell

Didn't make much difference with the $$$$ they threw at josh ransom as he has signed with Pt Mac as assistant coach. Will dominate down there with Will McDonald rucking!!

Brendan little is the non playing coach at east. Casterton and sandford have formally agreed to merge
Heard they're getting close to 40 players at training

Clearance list for the WBFL must be at their lowest ever, there has literally been none posted on the website for this year! Stagnant league gathering cobwebs???

Apart from transfers to the NTFL hardly any sa clubs are posting clearances
How's east looking:)

Just had a look at the WBFL clearance list and it seems the exodus continues with around 7 or 8 looking to get out already. The club atm is denying them which will create further problems imo.
I think North will be vying for their 3rd in a row here. South may push them if they can get the right players as North have lost a couple of big names!

Man, this thread makes for a depressing read for someone that left Mt Gambier after the 1994 season.

Is there any word on restructuring the leagues down there or is the Mid SE and KNTFL holding strong with what they've got meaning the Mt Gambier clubs and Millicent.... what.... rot away in a 5 team comp?

Don't forget Casterton.

Started with 12 clubs, now down to 6. Really need Penola & Naracoorte to join.

It's definitely different. Under 13/15/17 B &A grade all on the Saturday.
Good crowds as in you don't get those dead Victorian not travelling crowds.
Bugger all travelling.

Just get sick of playing each other and no real surprises. Clubs can set up for the finals miles off.

A few years like this won't hurt too much but something will change. I hope.

Alas no more bus trips to Hamilton and Portland. They used to be quality trips home :thumbsu:

Wbfl, mid se, kntfl and sanfl got together last year as part of the review to discuss their options. They all agreed that they would be reduced to 2 leagues - there were 5 or 6 different league models produced. There is a commission being put in place to look at the best model

The Kowree-Naracoorte merged with the Tatiara back in 1993 to form the Kntfl.
I'm not sure Keith, Bordertown, Mundulla & Kaniva-Leeor would be keen on travelling further than Penola.

I can't comment on the future of the Mid-se, but surely the best result would be for Penola to re-join the wbfl.

Merging the mallee league with the tatiara clubs I believe was one of the league models discussed

That is one of the models that is floating around. The real issue is the strength of the various clubs and the need to get the mix right first time as they don't want to have to do it again anytime soon. One theory I heard was that they were prepared to wait for a year or two to see what happens with the Mount Gambier and Millicent area clubs to see how numbers go. Administrators are loathe to kill off clubs but they would prefer that any mergers are done voluntarily. I think it's unlikely that all clubs will survive into the near future and there are some good geographic fits for some clubs such as the mallee / tatiara suggestion and a rebranded South East competition, but ultimately there has to be some symmetry, between all the clubs. From afar, North seem to have a major financial advantage over every other team and the region, you could imagine the carnage if they got merged into a MSEFL league. Not sure how you fix that easily.
