Who was umpiring the East/ Millicent game Ant?? I was down at the West/Millicent game and the umpiring there was absouletly dreadful. It was nearly like they were just guessing and then blowing the whistle and deciding afterwards what the free was for. Only positive was that both teams had some awful decisions go against them. But the shed thought Millicent got the rough end of the stick.

You are welcome to pick up the whistle any time you like, we are really short of umpires. The shed will greet you gleefully, it's wonderful free therapy and the pay is not bad.

couldnt get to imps v hamilton game, what happened.
scoreline doesnt look good for hamilton.
wonder what stupid thing riddle will say to explain this one!!!!
what do hamilton supporters think of him???
did sevior get reported and what for?

Imps looked very good, although they were against inferior opposition. Imps were up and about early, were harder at the footy, were better with their skills and the pressure they put on was very good, made Hamilton turn it over too often. I think, and have said earlier, that Imps will surprise many this year. They have lost a few players but Forsyth has them playing 'together' as a tight knit unit.
Can't comment on Riddle's sayings this week as i only heard his 3/4 time speech which went for about 30 seconds leaving all at the huddle very bewildered - would think you would have a bit more to say when your team is down by 12 goals against the arch rival. Maybe training tonight could be worth watching........
Sevior got reported for head high contact. Personally i didn't think it was too much, but that is the rule now, and knowing Guy pretty well i wouldn't think he would deliberately go out and target anyone like that.
All in all will be a very long year for Hamilton and their supporters, but on the other side could be an exciting year for the dogs - they have some excellent kids on their list

thanks swandog.
pretty direct article in the spec , basically saying the hamilton players were just turning up to collect there pay packets!!! which for some are very big!!!

I know umpire's are hard too come by currently but....i'm with the honourable Jeff kennett on this one; but seriously you can train & educate local ump's but you can't change there personality and there way of thinking....and as much as Terry Willouby (spelling) drums it in to the prospective umps....you need level headed and most IMPORTANTLY by partisen personalities, which sadly does'nt happen in this league.
Don't try and argue the point against me, because it a losing battle.

Match of the rounds this weekend - Imps vs Millicent & Portland vs East.

From what i'm gathering Imps are a well coached line-up with youth, run & that typical imps hardness about them. Just quickly i saw a familiar old name in the teams in D. Jenkinson...thats not Dean 'Jumbo' Jenkinson is it !?
Millicent whilst they've just fell short against two quality outfits (East/Portland) the past two weeks, they can't and would be stupid that fifth spot and finals is there's. Thats why this game is such an important match-up. Don't get me wrong, Millicent have the side to surprize the top 3-5 sides from last year but they can't look too far ahead of themselves.
It's hard to judge imps, whilst they've lost a shitload of players they also have a good junior core group that should step up plus the senior group that remains are quality so they should'nt be underestimated this season.
Portland vs East should be another clinker; you would think maybe the tigers at home....but east would be primed for this one !!

It's fair to say the spectators got their money's worth at Hanlon Park. It was an absolute thriller of a game!

It was interesting reading Hamilton spec's journo on the Imps vs Millicent wash up...in short it must have been an entertaining game until 3 1/4 time before the home side ran away with it in the last.
Not taking anything away from the imps side...BUT was that due to the injuries to p/c Duldig & to 1st yr player to the saints Agnew (Ranga !!!), which may have left them short of manpower in the final quarter or imps were the better side on a whole....
One other comment from the Ham spec's journo - Natalie McGregor which caught my eye was the analysis of Millicent's Andrew Nitschke - Millicent's backline finding open spaces, but it's ability too turn the ball over abetted by Nitschke....yet he was named in Millicent's best, work that out !!!! talk about calling it as you see it Natalie.
Nitschke's foot & hand skills have never been his trade mark even with three mail medals & a record eight club best & fairests and will only be exaggerated as he slows down.
Whilst he may be the clubs most decorated player, in my honest & fair opinion he's not the clubs greatest player.

Billy could get 1 kick in the 1st quarter and sit the rest of the game off and still get in the best for millicent. that is just what they do.
In all seriousness he hasnt really ever impressed me that much.
Yes he is a good player and he has been around for a long time so you have to respect that.
The years that he won league medals for the most part all he would do was get another player to handball to him, chip it 25m to a player on his own, run past and get the hands, chip it 25m and so on.

A question on millicent, what is it with the style of just chipping it around so much?
You see it year in, year out.
They might not have had the best key position players over the years, but they havent been the worst either.
Now they have a very good spine have they changed that much?

Maybe you should ask the players !?....here they have a target in Chris Murray & from what i've seen this year they continuelly shoot themselves in the foot by not giving him space; luckily he kicks pretty accurately.

Disappointing effort from the saints on the weekend really. Injuries to Steve and Johnnie Agnew certainly wouldnt of helped. Been told that Steve thiks he will be alright to play this week, will have a cast on his injured fiinger apparently, so that is a good thing for Millicent.

Might head over and watch them against Casterton. Depends on what Im doing. They should really have a comfortable win against the Cats.

As for Billy, yeah his disposal has always been a bit iffy sometimes. Get the odd cringe with some of his in and under kikcs. But can still find the footy, and no not just running past for a handpass, might be doing a bit more of that now he has slown down.

I said to my Dad at the West game in round one that Millicent really just didnt know how to play with a key forward. Thats the delivery as well as giving him the space that Murray needs in which to operate. Millicents key forwards for a few years have been ordianry. The last good ones we had were Joey Cotton and Ash Brown on one leg. So I htink the forward line is still a work in progress but have been impressed with Murray. I also said to Dad they should push everyone up the ground and leave Murray one out and see how he went.

Don't believe the saints side in the paper....Duldig will not or should'nt play this week; having a rest, finger not right. Agnew wont play either...ankle is all good; but not good enough for the cats. They and not only the saints....but why do sides put dummy bloody sides in the papers when team sheets are swapped between sides atleast 1/2 hour before game time.....
It shite's ya...more so for supporters that don't get down to selection night to hear them !!!!!
They might as well have put in a spine of Prouse/Arthurson/Ferguson/Cotton/Smith....:mad:

yes billy is still in portland.
his young fella jordan, has been playing with hamilton imperials while he attended monivae college, jordan played in 2007 under 18 flag with imps. pretty handy player, cleared back to portland this year.
billy was and still is feared and respected amongst football circles, truly one of the greats in late 80s and early 90s.
he worked very closely with imps under 18s to win a flag and instilled hardness amongst a young group. he was a major reason for the under 18s winning that flag in 2007.
totally agree one of the very best............

Probably one of the most exciiting players to play wb footy; i have one memory of 'Bustling Billy Cables' it was against the saints during the early 90's when Phil Harrison was in charge of the saints and it was one of those classic media built up games; anyway everyone new of Cables, not only playing ability but also he had a fuse shorter than Barry Hall and also could fight....hehehe.
Another one of our Pt ADL magpie recruits in Daryl 'DC' Chynoweth was also one of the most exciting & tough players to come to the saints...and also very good with his knuckles, but a little bit more self control than Billy. The moment came during the match...when nothing untoward happened or any off the ball incident...but it was like there moment had come. It was a classic, especially if you were a spectator two 'inked' up hardnuts going toe to toe.....the end result was Cables come out of it with a broken jaw...for memory (and it probably went no longer than a 1-2 combo each) !? You could just tell tho, they had that mutual respect. Cables still to this day sticks in my mind as one of the best seen in this comp.

FAIR TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys. Having a few beers with a guy named Dale Overall last week. Think he played/plays with Hamilton Imps. Good size was wondering how he goes?

Is it correct Ben Nash has been cleared from Heywood to Old Collegians in Warrnambool DFNL? WHy has he left? Isn't his family pretty well involved at Heywood?

Yes that is correct. Ben has moved on for employment reasons, which is a shame because he has served the club well for a number of years. While it is a big blow to a playing list that is already very short on experience as far as I know most of the playing group understand his reasons and wish him well. He will be welcomed back at any time. His younger brother Josh is still at the club and is one of the onfield leaders, although at the moment is still struggling to get over an injury to his leg from last season, while his father Tony is a very respected football brain at the club and still does the running for the seniors.

Watch North very closely on the weekend against Imps. Is it me or are North just making up the numbers? Had talent all round the ground but were beaten by a team of goers. Very selfish players at North, not playing team football and to me thats where it was won and lost on Saturday.

Saw North against the mighty SA dogs the other week and they looked good, lost a couple of key players in the first ten minutes and that could have cost them. That was the there best game for the year, the word is that you could be right about some of there players being selfish and not playing team football. Have also heard that the coach is struggling with the attitude of some players and is at breaking point with these players.

Does anyone think Portland can be beaten this year? South were the closet team on the ladder and Portland seemed to account for them easily looking at the scores. Is it correct Clint Lancaster could be playing for them in the coming weeks?
