definitely worth a look at, quality player, good level headed bloke. he plays in a team that hasnt won a game for a while, but he consistently plays at the same level. good athlete and uses the ball very well. probably the best young bloke in wbfl. would get a game in any wbfl team.

thats good to hear. i uderstand that another young fella marcus england is good to watch. who would be the better player if were both in top sides

unfortunately all of those things you mentioned are reasons why they havent been competitive.
culture - not very good, the players are young and think they are actually good players (they MIGHT turn into good players but seriously look at some of the players they have been selecting the last cpl of years) and the supporters are just full of grumpy people that complain all of the time and blame everyone else for heywoods misfortunes.
numbers - hasnt been very good this year couldnt get an under18 side but other years this hasnt been a problem
committee - have their hearts in the right place just a pitty everything they do seems to be for personal or family gain
geographic - this is only a problem locally. people wont travel to heywood because it is not a good club to be at right now. players for far away though do seem to travel. it is all about the culture and atmosphere
there are plenty of other things to cover but i thought i would get the ball rolling.
that was the bad stuff coz to be honest there isnt any good stuff (yeah yeah the playing list is young but heywood have been saying this for how long?)
but the attractive thing about heywood is if you turn the culture around and bring a fair few players you will have success
and when that success comes there might not be a better club to be around next year or the year after if they get rid of the bad apples off field

yes there is negatives there are also positives. off field has been mostly sorted out whith the introduction of a ceo (shane evans) and with the addition of a few older more experienced players would go a long way to helping the on field situation and help with the pevelopment of the younger less experienced players

After watching the saints going down to south last week; a couple of things i thought came out of it - and i'm usually pretty right !!!!

Andrew Nitschke is finished as a footballer, the only reason he getting by is he gets cheap stats against the low sides eg (but no disrespect) Heywood, West & Casterton. He's found out against the class of finals type sides - Portland, East, South.
Last week he looked slow, missed targets both hand & foot and put other team mates under pressure because of those costly mistakes mentioned above. Opposition teams are now preying on his weaknesses and he's being found out unfortunetly.
He's playing for himself & it's sad to see and if he plays on next year it's even more proof of thinking of himself & not his club and fellow team mates.

Other points were South while a top three side wont be a danger to Portland or East, if it was'nt for Millicents complete about face after there terrific first half against the demons the saints could've caused a boilover.

Here is to another very interesting round ahead.

What are some of the negatives then? it seems a lot of outside people focus on the negatives and heywood people say there are negatives but will never go into any detail.
dont try and make it out like everything i said was a bad focus
Maybe you didnt read it all but I definitely put in

not all negative i would say. and that is what the poster asked. an honest assesment maybe something you wouldnt be able to give
when all said and done it is a good thing for heywood because lets face it if it was all rosy down there heywood would be in real trouble

If I read Like a Puma correctly he was agreeing with the things you listed as negatives, not saying they weren't or there were other negatives. Then he listed some of the good things. Nothing wrong with that.

Billy could get 1 kick in the 1st quarter and sit the rest of the game off and still get in the best for millicent. that is just what they do.
In all seriousness he hasnt really ever impressed me that much.
Yes he is a good player and he has been around for a long time so you have to respect that.
The years that he won league medals for the most part all he would do was get another player to handball to him, chip it 25m to a player on his own, run past and get the hands, chip it 25m and so on.

A question on millicent, what is it with the style of just chipping it around so much?
You see it year in, year out.
They might not have had the best key position players over the years, but they havent been the worst either.
Now they have a very good spine have they changed that much?
Have you ever actually watch Billy play or what?
1 kick and get in the best players, have another pims and lemonade you twit.
The blokes a champ

Save the pims & lemonade to the Chappell bar, he is not a champion - he's a ordinary footballer done good; made the most of his ability and managed to win a couple of WB b & f's. Champion like legend is not a title you don't pass down lightly, and as much as Billy Nitschke has been highly decorated in the wbfl he'll always be known as a honest player that exceeded his own expectation.
And sadly after the saints big win over Heywood he (Billy) did not help his cause of maybe playing on next year. Looking on and being honest yet not being bias; he again looked slow & turned the ball over too easily...even against poor opposition in Heywood (no disrespect).
Unfortunetly he has become a liability for the team in his pursuit for personal glory. If he was in the afl he would not be spared because of compassionate reasons; in country footy it's leave gracefully or look like a fool.

Name a WBFL player that betters Nitschke's achievements? Grand Finals aside. Ordinary player? You must have been a gun? You say he exceeded his expectations. What were his expectations, to build sand castles in the sky or ride a horse naked down rundle mall? I think there is no comparison between afl & western border so to campare the 2 is ridiculous. A liability in pursuit of personnel glory is a bit rich, he's got more than anyone else. He's been on 1 knee for 4 years helping the team, so i think we can cut him some slack after 300 senior games.

Scott Flett & Brad Cooper come to mind that are up there with Nitschke's acheivments.
Atleast i've got the balls to call a spade a spade, and Billy was an ordinary player that got the best out of his ability and exceeded. Billy would know deep down that he got the best out of himself when there were other quicker, faster, better onballers then him.
So get your red/black & white blinkers off your head and smell the roses; i've been around alot of years to know whats right & whats a liability.

Flett and Cooper both good players but hardly got Nitschkes achievements. You dont need balls to use a computer, just plenty of time to bag people that have more talent in their left elbow than you. You dont seem to know a great deal about footy as you dont have to be quick and fast to be handy. Greg Williams springs to mind, Robert Harvey etc. You say youve been around a bit but have you played at any level to warrant making such comments? I havent got red black and white blinkers, but i do respect people that have got the runs on the board. How many runs have you got BIG ANT, Zero i would say!!!

No i have'nt played alot of senior football, all reserves but i have been involved off feild for the past 15 years, so i know i'm right in saying what i feel & what i know. So for your information i am warranted to make an opinion; an opinion thats not personal but an opinion thats professional.

Flett & Cooper are just as highly credentialled as Nitschke is/was, plus more. Your judged as a player by team success not by personal success.
I know former Millicent player Heath Sims would not swap one of his premiership medals at south for one of Nitschke's four league medals.
Sims has reunions to have a laugh about his premiership medals, who does Billy have to share his league medals with - no one.
My whole argument is Billy is playing on for the wrong reasons; and whats come to ahead this past fortnight.
Beit the pressures of playing top 5 sides to the little pressures of playing the bottom sides is he's been sadly found out in all skill area's that you need to compete at this level being afl - vfl or vcfl. Once your skills go you have no where to hide ACKERS29 !!!

I heard East onballer Josh Ransom got his face punched in a nightclub incident and is out for the rest of the year... any further news on that one? He is silk on that left foot of his!

Yep unfortunetly he did, have'nt heard any more on charges being laid as yet. It's a very bad place at night the mount !!!!

Your talking rot BIGANT, you say "your judged as a player by team success not personal success" Robert Harvey, Nathan Buckley & Gary Ablett must be all no good because they never won a flag and Tony Lockett kicked a million goals but he's no good, stop inhaling paint thinners and follow soccer. By the way he won 3 WBFL Medals not 4

Who gives a flying f__k if it's 3 or 4.....and i'm not talking rot ACKERS29.
You want to get your rod out of Billy's ring, we can talk all the cliche's we want beit Nitschke, Harvey, Buckley or Ablett; the fact of the matter is, unfortunately Nitschke's time is up.
His form especially this year has bought forward his closing time & deep down after last weeks game you could see it in his body language that he's just not there anymore (on top of that with a dicky knee).
If he's struggling against the weak sides, it does'nt look all good when against the finals sides - if they make it.

So what if his form is down, he set a high standard for so long. And if his form was so bad he would be playing reserves. I dont even know the bloke, but have admired the way he plays, when i get to the footy, so my rod isnt in his ring. You keep making so called "Professional" statements and i keep shooting you down because clearly you haven't a clue about footy. Perhaps you should remove your rod from your mouth BIGANT!!!!

Obviously you don't see enough of his games to so called 'shoot me down'.
I know i'm right in what i'm saying, and there are quite a few people who agree with my original thoughts.
For your information i do have a clue about football or else i would'nt have been in the game for the past 20years; it's an opinion that is shared by many within the district and abroad.
He's had a good career which he does'nt want to spoil it by making selfish decisions. I'm finished with the subject; time to move on.

Actually, I've played on or against Billy on and off for a touch over a decade now, and while I have great respect for the bloke for what he has been able to give to the Saints, I agree with Bigant, its time for him to drop back to the twos and I honestly don't know if the blame should go to Billy, it could be that Steve Duldig doesn't have the heart to make the big call and as such cost his club a place in the senior finals.
I'm a rubbish footballer myself and getting worse by the year, but I found last time I played on Billy he never manned up but unlike past years did not have the pace or stamina to cut off the ball as has been his trademark, which has allowed him in the past to play off his player. He could have a lot to give in their reserves in terms of teaching their young players about where to move on a field and how to set up, but right now at senior level he is a bit easy to exploit. It is not just him though, I honestly reckon that Saints reserves team has three or four guys who should be in the senior team, Bronte Grosser and Cameron Viney certainly spring to mind, because they still have plenty to offer, while there are certainly some weak links in that senior team that are holding them back. Shame, if they put their best team on the park they could have scared a couple of teams in finals with their forward structure.

Billy Nitschke won't play reserves; he's too proud to finish his career in the two's. In fact in news just come to hand the impending new coach might well make that decision for Andrew.

Yes thats right, have just heard that senior coach of the past two years Steve Duldig announced last night that he is'nt going on in the role next season. In further news offhand Duldig is going to stay on as a player at the saints.
To keep the ball rolling, saints first year recruit and full forward Chris Murray signed on for next season during last week.

Thats some big news for the Saints, because Duldig is a terrific key position player and Murray is a definite match winner up forward. They are not too far off as a side, perhaps need to add a bit more polish around the midfield, but the depending on the new coach he might take care of that himself. Promising signs for the Saints. Thanks for the update Ant

haha - let's make it a game of Guess Who?

I'll ignore the part where you refer to yourself as a "rubbish footballer" because good players always talk themselves down. So we'll go with Matt Steel, is that you?
Jaron Quinlivan?

As for Bronte Grosser being elevated to the seniors, the guy has talent to burn but can be slack and I know this from experience because i played on him in a reserves game in 2004 and he didn't get a kick and I WAS/AM a rubbish footballer. If Millicent are relying on Bronte Grosser to spark their senior side then they mustn't be travelling too well.

Agree on Duldig being a great centre half back and always admired Andrew Nitschke but he must be getting a bit slower as I think his 300th (or was it 250th) was about 4 years ago and he was struggling a bit with a dicky knee then if I recall.

hate to say it fellas but i think east are in big trouble heading into the finals. loss of there best onballer wont help the cause.

Grosser won't play a'grade football again, while it was never announced officially Bronte retired from a'grade football after last season (2008), now he trying to get a bit of success with the two's, who start there finals campaign this sunday against North in the elimination at Portland.

Yeah it's good that Duldig is staying on as a player next season; one would hope that his younger brother Matthew might rejoin the saints from Glenelg in 2010.
