Re: Western Region FL - Division Two

Dont get me started now mate as you know i love talking about myself. Dont forget i have played most part of my senior carrer in Div 1 in the EDFL and WRFL and in EDFL 2007 i kicked 61 goals in 2007 in the A grade my dear fat friend.

Some would actually argue that it is in some sense its harder playing as a key forward in Div 2 as the midfield delivery is no where near as good as in Div 1 and as a forward you rely on your midfield to deliver the ball.

Look forward to playing Deer Park this week should be a good game and we have our work cut out but look forward to playing the better sides in the comp.

I will make sure the canteen is fully stocked for you champ! :p

wont be there superstar........good luck though......just like nth foots i believe yarra have the wood over us.........:thumbsu:

Re: Western Region FL - Division Two

Tips Round 5

Yarraville need a big win against a top team to give them any hope of playing finals this year, last weeks loss will be morale sapping but coming up against last years premiers Deer Park who where also defeated last week could give Yarra the confidence to get straight back up. Yarra by 3 goals

Parkside after 2 losses in a row will be looking to make ammends in a big way this week and will do so against the winless Braybrook oufit who although put up a better preformance last week will be outplayed this week. Parkside 15 goals

Coburg Districts the team known to make atleast one big scalp every year did it again on the weekend and that will give them all the confidence in the world to go on with it again this week against Laverton Magpies who have only had the 1 win to date against last placed North Sunshine. Coburg Districts by 10 goals

Albanvale showed why they belive they have genuine chance this year with 37 scoring shots against a finals contender in yarraville last week, however their accuracy at goal may cause them some problems later in they year unless they deal with it now, luckily they play North Sunshine this week and will have plenty of chances to practice this week. Albanvale 45 goals +

North Footscray in the last 2 weeks have defeated both the runners-up and premiers from the 2009 season and seem to be doing eveything right this year to suggest they are finally ready to take the next step, they play the much improved Wynhamvale Falcons this week who had a solid win last week, but with Devils camp up a firing the falcons may find this game a little out of their reach. North Footscray by 10 goals

Good Luck to all teams!

All tips/comments IMO

Re: Western Region FL - Division Two

Sat through both games at Nth Sunshine today and it wasn't pretty. Combined Albanvales seniors/reserves won by nearly 700 points.

i remember back in the day Yarra smashed brooklyn by 300 odd points - 400 points is just insane.

If the league doesn't come up with something soon there will be some clubs shutting their doors, which nobody wants to see. There have been enough suggestions on this site alone to promote some action from the league, surely they have to take their fingers out of the proverbial and come up with something.

Here's an idea.... don't let the team that wins the Div 2 flag stay in Div 2.:rolleyes:

In 2004 Altona won the flag and chose to stay down. They are now starting to do well and getting plenty of pats on the back. The team that had to stay up the extra season was Nth Sunshine and look where they are now.

This season it's West that are forced to stay up... wonder where they will be in a few years?

i get your point - but from other point of view - altona are only team in last few years to stay down forst year and go up second year - and they have established themselevs in divvy 1 as a viable team - all others are/have struggled tpo survive so do you blame deer park for taking same path??? might hurt other teams but every club is looking outfor their long term future

Long term future? What about the junior program that has always been strong? It has destroyed another club in NS.

I agree that each club has to look after themselves, but for the viability and credability of the competition, the league is more important than any club. Staggering decision that was made after the Vikings flag won the flag.

But the more galling outcome is that 5 years later the loophole still existed! Hopefully DP won't win it this year, because surely Goldy's 5 year plan won't allow promotion.

Some credit must go to Albanvale. Granted the oppostion were very bad but to kick 67 goals and win by 401 points is an amazing effort.
Most sides go through the motions when they play these sort of games but Albanvale were ruthless yesterday. Very unselfish team football and they are getting better each week.

I believe it was a club record score and possibly league score ? and Sherif Mohamed broke the most goals in a game for an Albanvale player with 16 goals ( 16 straight ). A great effort.

On a sour note for the day a special mention goes out to our young ruckman Gabe Clingen who badly broke his leg yesterday and was operated on last night i believe. Get well soon and fingers crossed you are back come finals if the cobras are lucky enough to make it !

howd you go cain train......from what i hear 6 or 7 possies and 3 goals.....2 handed on a platter from handballs over the top.....????

2 on the trott for the parkers.......no panic stations yet......depth is a concern imo......

3 goals nine last week in the 2nd term v nth.......2 goals 7 v yarra this week.......bad kicking=bad football........

67 goals gee whizz.......20 scoring shots per 1/4 ppppffffttttt.......def crobra's are flag fav's......

correct decision was made rd1........

differance is those years altona won b 2 b flags they were the best team or at least top 2 in the comp over the whole year.......d/p were certianly not that last season.......

This is a good point, but it fails to address the issue of West having to suffer for the 3rd year in a row, (and most likely 2nd as wooden spooners). Whether Deer Park should have gone up or not, (and FWIW I think they should have), is not the major concern. It would be a major step backwards for the league to have another side in North's position. The premiers should be made to go up, but if there can be an agreement reached between the premier and say the minor premier, maybe the latter could be given the chance to accept promotion. If they refuse, I don't think it is the right of the premiers to be given a choice to stay down. Take a chance and you never know what will happen- attract new sponsors, new players who want to play at a higher level, might even take a scalp or two like Heights did last year.

Anyway, just my two cents.

Wish him all the best. Went through that recently myself and it's not much fun. Good player too from what I saw. Keep your head up

I am pretty sure that in 1995 West Newport won the div2 flag, refused to go up, joined another comp and with a month or two before the season, the league asked the runners up Sunshine YC to come up. They did and have been there ever since. I am pretty sure if they had asked Parkside to go up last year, despite losing the GF that div1 was where they wanted to be. and thats my two cents!

Ive beeen and watched every team play this year and only 4 of these blokes are in my top 10-20 best players in the comp.. Mainsbridge, Mohammed, Newit & Davis...
Best player in the comp Richardson from nth footsrcay very good player in and under beautiful disposal of the footy..
followed not far behind by Joe Cali , Justin Gomez , Steven Paone , Luke Summers..Not in my best 20 but very good small forward is Daniel neville Kid knows how to get front and centre perfectly!

My best fwd for comp r Davis, Cain, Evans and mohumed from albanval. Lubky at vales prety good to. Saw nth foot and windhamvale on yesterday and think vales should have won after leeding all day but turned ball over to much in last qurter. Does this close result meen peopl will think vales r maybe finals team? With lubky denerly bumwoth and evans they culd be a dangerus team? Nth foot were good tho and there skill was better than vales. What do people think

Is your criticism of ALTONA through jealousy or stupidity or both. Fact is Altona's Junior club was and is a seperate entity from the senior club. When the seniors won thier first Div 2 flag the juniors were basically broke with no committee structure or direction and I can assure wanted nothing to do with the senior club at the time. A lot of hard work has since changed that and they work very well together.
If you would like to look at the record books you would notice that also during that time Altona under 18 were probably the worst side in a one grade competition. This is because most players had gone to Spotty the previous few years as Altona didnt even have under 18"s.
by the way have a look at the Spotty side from the past 4 years and see how many played all thier juniors at Altona but had no path to seniors. The seniors didnt go up as the club would have gone broke trying to compete, a decision which was made within the rules of the league. Maybe all clubs should cut back on player payments and invest in decent coaches and facilities and equipment for there juniors as a long term investment. Red Devil maybe you should take this advice to your committee as they certainly dont seem to be doing much in terms of juniors especially in A grade comps, instead of forking out to be the perenial tease. Try looking in your won back yard and ask why? or are you really that jealous of Altona?

You are very correct - in that year the league came to us and asked us in the February to go up - it was a no brainer we wanted to be in A Grade, and even though we had recruited blokes to get us out of B grade - and they may have not been A grade standard - but we fought it out worked our guts out and now reaping the rewards. I remember one committee member saying we have to do this - we may never get the chance again... maybe this could happen to the likes of Deer Park etc. I dont blame Deer Park of Altona - its the easy option, people like winners regardless. But the league needs to hold themselves personally responsible for the demise of the west footscrays and North Sunshine of the world.

Our club hasn't looked back - we dont pay out huge dollars - enough but nothing extraordinary, we try and look after our juniors and at the moment have over 50% playing in our A grade team. Best thing we ever did. And i hope Deer Park in 5 years time when Goldie and his cronies have moved on to another club isn't ruing their decision.
