Manor Lakes wanting senior players according to theee Facebook page, well they’re looking for thirds players not necessarily senior and reserves. Good for them and good for the comp to see them back.

I know Coburg-Fitzroy played in the VFL in the late 1990s.

Does anyone know the depth of involvement from Fitzroy in this short-term venture? (Fitzroy FC Pty Ltd? Brisbane Lions FC?). I thought Dyson Hore-Lacy was involved somewhere along the line.
Speaking with the President of Fitzroy after a CY’s v Lions game at the Fearon, we at Wlli were given the recent history of the FFC by their President.

Dyson H-L was the architect of the club's re-emergence. By amalgamating with Uni Reds, the FFC maintained its continuous playing record, albeit in three competitions: VFA, VFL, and VAFA.

Dyson insisted that Brisbane was to be a new and separate entity, totally divorced from the original FFC.

The current Fitzroy Football Club, B Section 2025, maintains that it is the original FFC and maintains all past records.

Fitzroy was the first team to win a VFL Grand Final. Established in 1883, the Fitzroy Football Club became a foundation team in the Victorian Football League in 1897, being the only Victorian club to have played in the VFA, VFL and VAFA.

In 1996, the AFL and the Brisbane Bears had done a deal where Brisbane took on Fitzroy's debts, following several failed amalgamations and relocations with VFL clubs as: -

1980 Sydney Lions
1986 & 1994 Melbourne Lions
1989 Fitzroy Bulldogs
1996 North Fitzroy Kangaroos
1996 Brisbane Lions

Prior to the start of the 1996 season, and in the wake of Fitzroy not having an AFL team, was approached by University Reds, amalgamated, and renamed the 'Fitzroy Reds'. With the former Fitzroy Football Club's blessing plus some sponsorship, playing in the Fitzroy guernsey and out of Fitzroy Football Club's traditional home, the Brunswick Street Oval.

The club's moniker remains the 'Lions', having not reverted to its former nickname, the 'Gorillas'. Today, the club fields men's and women's teams in the Victorian Amateur Football Association and other junior leagues.

The relocation of the club's moniker to Brisbane, replacing the 'Bear', strengthened the supporter bases in Queensland and Victoria, which was an excellent strategic move.

Would be good to see them back, have appointed an U18.5 coach as well as Tarneit.

Tarneit beat ML in the U16 (2) GF this past season and both looking to field U18.5 teams in 2025 each for the first time (think I'm right).

The Thirds comp proving a good stepping stone for teams like Glenorden and ML to get back into senior ranks and for new clubs like Eynesbury.
