It's called Tall Poppy Syndrome....
From the AFL VIC report Deer Park have been found GUILTY of being over the salary cap, not sure of the amount.
WRFL board to sanction the club by the end of round 18.
apparently over the cap due to the senior coach playing a handfull of reserves games last year.
I think it's half the payment. This could be correct. Rules state any coach that plays a reserves or senior game their full coaching payments have to be counted in the salary cap. Does not matter if it is one game or 18. Wonder if DP have counted Boothy's coaching payments again in this year in the salary cap.
This 'parking infringement' may cost them enough points to miss the finals."And in other news, police have released a statement saying Carl Williams is cleared of all charges and will not face prosecution, however they have elected to proceed with a parking infringement"
Or will they be like Caroline Springs being penalised and then anyone after that who is caught gets away with it?and since it’s an administrative error, slap em with a fine, wave the finger at them and wish them luck for finals. It’s the WRFL way until a similar incident happens in future and another club cops it.
I can't be bothered back tracking 10 months, but If my memory serves me correctly didn't we already know they would be over the cap due to the senior coach playing reserves? Putting all things aside, if this is all they have come up with after 10 months of investigations then I think there are more important questions to be asked.
After 10 months of investigations at a conservative cost of 150k. More important question, why bother with the salary cap? The amount of staff running around AFL Vic basically unaccountable is a joke. Community football is at a stage never experienced before and AFL Vic is becoming like the public service $$$$$.I can't be bothered back tracking 10 months, but If my memory serves me correctly didn't we already know they would be over the cap due to the senior coach playing reserves? I've just finished reading AFL Vic and the WRFL Player Payment Policy and I can't seem to find where it mentions the senior coaches payment is to be included in the salary cap if playing reserves football. So unless I've missed it which is a good chance, can you please tell me where I would find it.This could be correct. This is from AFL Vic & WRFL Player Payment GuidelinesNo mention of the reserves in this context probably means that it doesn't matter which team he plays for. I read it and can only assume that as soon as the coach pulls on the boots for any side at the club, he's regarded as a playing coach.
Having said that, Spotswood v Deer Park in the first week of the finals should be a cracker.
In terms of the club, he is just a coach. If the rumours are true, those investigating have deemed him to be a player as well because he played some games in the reserves. Messy. This is from AFL Vic & WRFL Player Payment Guidelines
Playing coach
Where a Club appoints a single Player as the coach of the Club's Senior Team (i.e. a playing coach), the coaching element of that Player’s payments should be specifically identified in the Player Declaration lodged in accordance with Rule 4(a).
I think everyone involved in football knows the difference between a playing coach and a non-playing coach so if the rumours are actually true I'm a little unsure as to why Deer Park have been found guilty. Is there more to this that we don't know?
After watching the two teams play on the weekend I would have to agree. I expected Spotty to come out in the last qrt and have a comfortable win. I think I might actually make the effort to watch some finals this season.
