I eat humble pie, spotty smashed us today and are every bit as good as last year, no sarcasm intended but clear premiership favourites now in my opinion.
We have alot of work to do but i'm sure we will get back on track.

Well Rock, what do we know that we didn't know this morning ?

You've moved house. Rock in Spotswood just didn't seem right !!

Spotty and PMC will both be up there. Colts without yourself, Julier, Bonnett, D.Jacobs to name a few. Spotty with a couple more youngsters in the seconds as well as Langlands, Patak and Waldron missing.

Albion look the goods but West look like they will struggle.

Altona's strong youth policy with the experience of Eames and Taylor at the helm look to have improved. St Albans may well have slipped but had the game in the bag with 5 mins to go !!

Glenorden on the improve with goalkickers and best players looking like a Hoppers Crossing past players invitation list. Sunshine Heights could be in for a long year.

Scores indicate that Hoppers held sway for most of the day but Sunshine came over the top in the last quarter. Superior Fitness ??

So, top teams look like being (in no particular order) Spotty, Colts, Albion, Sunshine and Hoppers with Altona possibly shifting St Albans down a rung. Looks familiar doesn't it ??

Well i haven't yet....but tomorrow going back to where i belong.....home PORT MELBOURNE.

Ambitious putting us in the top 5 at the end of the year we just got a footy lesson today.
Waldron played reserves today so was hardly missing, anyway with a bit of luck we should get 6 back for the next game.

Glen Orden Will beat Heights
Spotty V Colts could go either way. Colts been written off on forum for the start of the year. write them off at your peril.
St Albans will murder Altona
Albion will murder West
Sunshine V Hoppers could go either way. Home team might take points.

theres a quote above and one here:ST ALBANS V ALTONA st albans by 12 goals should just smash them altona are a very young side who are still 3 or 4 years away from playing finals unless they recruit some big bodies with experience in a hurry st albans should be hungry after a pretty good 2008 and should build on that

guess what altona didn't get murdered or they didn't get smashed so stik that up ya's

Still not buying into the Albion hype. They will look the goods when they beat Spotty, Colts and any other real contender away from home.

Orden beat nobody and true test comes when they play Colts at Colts in round 2. We'll see how they contend with not only the Colts players but also the Beer Van contingent. Should be some choice insults flying over the fence.

Nothing to read into regarding the Hoppers V Sunshine game. You can back the Kangas in to do something great and inspirational early in the season but can they sustain it?

St Albans are enigmatic, much like their coach in his playing days at Footscray. A good confidence booster for the lads out at Altona but Eamesy will be keen to keep a lid on it.

Just noticed the photo on the WRFL web site,Rock what happened to Spotty's great enforcer Big Ray Hahaha.

Heard he may be a big chance to miss the Hoppers match.

Totally agree with this comment. The win was great yesterday from our point of view (i think first Rd 1 win for three years) however, its rd 1.

The break will be good then we are are all looking forward to the challenge of tackling a much improved Altona at Altona.

Good on Altona, must have been a different altona side that ran out yesterday than the one that got smashed by Werribee Amateurs last week.

dont count your chickens after round one. I dont see Port Colts getting smashed every week. And I dont see Altona making the finals still. But wouldnt be surprised if St.Albans do. Long season ahead. Well done to the Altona boys, good start, but means nothing if you get done by 10 goals next week.

I went down and watched Altona V St Albans..Altona where the better team all day and to say st albans had it in a bag with 5 minutes to go is a joke there was nothin in it..Spooner was held really well kept quiet and whoever that 32 is for altona is a star lol he is a huge bloke.
And i was surprised to see some altona players in the resrves dont know names but there were a few goood players who u would think to get a call up
As for St Albans it is only round 1 i dont think they played bad but they defintelly didnt play to the best of there ability where i think altona did.
Altona might be pushin for finals berth next year but i dont think they have much of a chance this year unless they prove every1 wrong and go on and beat sunshine in 2 weeks we will see what they produce:)

I went down and watched the St Albans game again..Altona played the better footy. Altona more cleaner & desisive with possession into the forward line
spoke to a couple of st albans guys over beer in that fantastic sportsmens club they have their, they indicated at least 7 walk up start first players out of the side yesterday. a couple of blokes still injured & 3 or 4 clearences not yet complete. they will probably pick up a bit. much better side through the year

Me too hardly slept a wink since.....i think spotty maybe even better than the last two years, monte and theodore have come back in awesome form add some quality youngsters and delaney from glenroy the looked awesome, plus langlands and patak to come???? 3 peat looking ominious.

Rubbish Rock. You haven't slept because you were too excited about moving away from enemy territory and back home to Port Melbourne. As for the woods being better than the last two years and a 3peat, we should be making that call at about 5 o'clock after the Grand Final. Don't you think the Spotty boys were helped a bit by coming up against a depleted Port? How many to come back into your side by the return bout between Port and Spotty?

I witnessed something strange on Sat morning while driving near the Laverton Football ground around 10am.

Hey Beazer can you shed any light on what i saw.

How many to come back into your side by the return bout between Port and Spotty?

How many we have to come back is irrelevant, we had 22 against 22 it was the way we went about it, and that was embarrassing.
We do have alot of quality players to comeback, although we do still have some work to do, but as i have said in the past i think we can.

Yes very happy to be out of spotty and back where i belong.

YC are on the board with 4 massive points against what some have said are the favourites for the flag. Douglas and king dominated the whole day, and douglas would have to be favourite for the comp b&f for the second time after a massive game. hoppers looked good for most of the day but very unfit couldn't run the game out.

the colts look down and out early but that way the case in 2008. spotty could very easily go 3 in a row.

altona was the upset. good on you blokes. new system in play but come round 3 i don't think you will get the 4 points :D

and albion even though they won doesn't seem very convincing? division two sides smashed west by over 20 goals in practice matches. did they have players out? 100 points is 100 points but for a mob they thinks they are going to be up there its a poor effort. west footscray are ther worst local div 1 side EVER!

my tips for the 5 are
spotty
sunshine
port
hoppers
albion/altona.glenorden all border

would have thought you would have YC on top there? surely after one round they are the clear favourites the two players mentioned will take the whole comp apart week by week unstoppable. Albion may finish last and get relegated very lucky to get away with a 100 point win :thumbsu: cant wait for the derby now!

Didnt YC beat hoppers? Since when were hoppers favourite to win the flag? If YC finish any higher than 5th the comp has gone to the dogs. Need to replace about 10 pea hearts before YC are contenders, dream on Flying High...........
Bring on the Derby, i'm sure the cats will be ready and waiting!

Ha hahaha I love this crap especially with Hyflier I suspect not even being from our club.. anyway I think its a pisser, Can tell the person wasnt at the game cause King didnt dominate till the 2nd half.. Rusty played well, but he hopefully will every game, but as a team the boys played well. We are not getting too carried away with one win, hopefully the Albion spruikers aren't getting to carried away with their 100 point win against West. Hard to judge so early on - not sure how anyone can make predictions, anything can happen!!
