Some of the names I like that I heard from the meetings they've been having

Sydney Athletic
Western Sydney Wanderers
West Sydney Devils
Western Sydney Rangers

Some I've heard that I don't like

Sydney West FC < like seriously? former socceroo Milan Blogevic wants this
anything incorperating United < not unique already been done
anything with FC

The colours have to be red and black or red white and black.

My favourites would be Sydney Athletic with red and lack stripes or WS Wanderers with red white black like St. Kilda but horizontal

I'd like to see a Western Sydney Athletic.

I think having something with FC is unavoidable, I think it comes with the territory

· Close Open Details 9 championships in 13yrs I want the the 10th. West syd could b it:). Haha

Just noticed this on Twitter. He's also on about 'life changes' etc. Is he Marquee material? I wouldn't rule our Sterjovski making a return home too.

He said he wanted to do fit under the cap.

But I hate that Twitter feed. I always thought Chippers was a decent guy. But his arrogance and self-belief is a little bit disappointing.

For a former bus driver from Wollongong it is. I only just started following him tbh.

Maybe old news but the four trademarks lodged by the FFA are:

Western Sydney Wanderers FC
Western Sydney Wolves FC
Western Sydney Athletic FC
Western Sydney Strikers FC

I would rule out Wolves and Strikers given that these two names are associated with Wollogong and Brisbane in the old NSL.

You would think the new club should have an entirely different name to other football clubs.

Wanderers, apparently.

I dig Wanderers.

Why are people surprised at this anyway? It was always the fan favourite and it seemed the FFA didn't want to annoy their potential fanbase.

For those saying it's uninspiring or bland, what would you rather? Something like 'Fire' or 'Strikers' is pretty cringe-inducing, but also pretty gener-brand in itself. Where 'FC' was probably too boring and 'United' is overused. Wanderers has some historical link to the Sydney area, the fans like it, and the name isn't a total embarrassment (like 'Fury'). The kit is red, black, and white as well, so I see the A-League doing everything right. I'm just hoping for a more traditional, less cartony crest.

just make it simple. western sydney united. sounds good, it's an accurate description and it's not some stupid gimmick (melbourne heart - gimme a break).

Sydney Rovers was actually a pretty good name.

Wanderers is the perfect name. The first recorded club in Australia was Wanderers based in the Parramatta area back in the 1880's. A great nod to the beginnings of the game in Australia, FFA have got this one right.
Yep, this is the reason I like it. They'll be the only team to actually have something of cultural and historical significance in their name.

It would be good if they tried the GWS approach too and play a few games in Canberra every year. It then takes in the Canberra fans who lost the Cosmos all those years ago (not that they had an army).

I would definitely support them if they were to do that. It's a valid option in the A-league beause there are 13 to 14 home games per season (as opposed to 11 home games in the AFL).
