FWIW I like Wolves, there's a nice symmetry to it.

I like Kookaburras as it is an Australian animal. But I don't mind West Sydney Wolves either, has a nice ring to it.
Likewise, I like Kookaburras as it's Australian.

Kookaburras seems a bit daggy and uninspiring to me plus the Australian men's hockey team already use it.
I also have this horrible image of supporters making incredibly lame and annoying kookaburra noises.

I reckon the rebels would be a great name. You can tie it to that odd piece of Aussie history - the rum rebellion and its also got a modern appeal to it.

Koalas is a loved creature which while cute and cuddly also has a nasty streak. Its also unused since the bad news bears bit the dust.

Bingo! It's quintessentially Australian. It has the much needed alliteration and wombats are surprisingly fast and tough. Plus it's unique AFAIK.
BTW can someone explain to me the idea behind "Celtics"?

The name obviously has to relate directly to what Western Sydney is....the massive metropolitan area west of the harbour bridge. The team should simply be called Western Sydney Metro. The jumper should strongly feature the Harbour Bridge to be in direct contrast with their crosstown rivals Sydney Swans whose jumper features the other Sydney icon..the Opera House and whose traditional supporter base in Sydney is from the North Shore and Eastern Suburbs. The colours are also obvious...Grey( Bridge), Navy (Harbour) and White....The combined colours of the teams are the colours of the AFL logo.
Sigh...
Yeah, the Sydney harbour bridge, which connects north and south Sydney, right next to the CBD, simply screams western Sydney.
There is absolutely no gay connotations to the word 'metro'
And Western Sydney is actually 'metropolitan', a term which means a large, busy city, rather than suburban. And will defiantly contrast to their cross town rivals, who are located in the middle of a large, busy city.
So lets drop the sarcasm for a minute. Lets compare your proposal with the set of criteria you outline.
Pick a Western Sydney Icon. FAIL.
Pick a contrasting mascot for their cross town rivals FAIL
Pick a name and identity whos gaydar is not off the chart FAIL.

out of all the names .. wolves is probably the best .. only thing is .. might have to differentiate between the other teams more because theres already WESTERN BULLDOGS ... its like 2 western canines ..

IMO i reckon it should be the Western Suburbs Wolves
Or if they do go for an abstract name how about Western Suburbs/Sydney Fire, then they can have a jumper design like that radical West Coast away jumper they had for a few years... which I actually liked

I don't pay any attention to netball, i don't know what kind of mascots they use... but if Power is good enough for AFL, I don't see how Fire is any different... plus it is kinda associated with Australia, as with bush fires i mean.
But I only meant that if they're we're gonna go for an abstract name. I like Wolves better too.

Answer 1. Western Sydney has no icon . 2. Correct. But I'm relying on Opera House v. Bridge !! 3. Any place West of the Bridge is Western Sydney..eg Balmain, Annandale,Ultimo etc etc. the Bridge is right there !!!!
