Is Days Gone worth picking up? I read so many good things about it, I've never played it before - obviously - and it seems to be very popular.
it's pretty good. very enjoyable gameplay loop

Latest game in my playing old games from my backlog until I get a new PC, and I went with Republic Commando.

Oh boy.

First issue is totally my fault, I saw realise date 2005 and thought it was an early Xbox 360 game like CoD2. Nope, it's an OG Xbox game, in the peak "dumbed down for consoles" era like Deus Ex Invisible War etc. So it came out after Half-Life 2, Doom 3, UT2004 etc, but feels a generation behind.

The game simply doesn't run out of the the box on modern PCs.

I had to install an unofficial patch which took it from doesn't run at all to crashes every 5 min (and not like crash to desktop either, full blown locked system I had to physically switch my PC off to fix) plus a "remaster mod" that so far means the game doesn't crash anymore.

I'm a third of the way through, games pretty short. And it's pretty rubbish and not really worth the effort in getting it to run. Linear, bullet sponge enemies, tactical options that boil down to "press f while mouse hovers over this gigantic HUD icon", dumb AI.

Oh well.

That's a shame, I remember it being a pretty cool game. Guess it doesn't age well.

Say goodbye to every quiet content solitary moment in your life. Get used to begrudgingly saying “**** it. One more run”.

Robocop Rogue City. Only in the first area but getting a good feeling about this game. Just $12 on PSN right now if you want to check it out.

Have it on pc (first purchase, about 50% off rrp)

Got it on Xbox later on (about 60% off rrp)

Purchasesmd it on PS5 over the Christmas sale period - was about $28

Spewing that if I held out I'd have got it for $12 instead lol

This is why I bought it, seems to be well-regarded but yeah. I reckon other games from that era hold up much better.

I'll finish it then move onto Quake 4, another game from 2005.

It did grow on me the more I played, but the respawning, bullet sponge enemies really put a dampener on it. Ah well.

Onto Quake 4 now. Cranked everything to maximum and it looked like arse. Even taking into account it's 20 years old now. Did some research and found it doesn't recognise modern hardware, so no matter what you do in the in-game settings, it just forces everything to Low Quality. You have to manually edit the config files and then you can increase the quality. It still looks quite good (Doom 3 engine lighting etc)

Tony Hawk's Underground is ridiculous fun. you can do combos faster than you can think about what you're doing. the 2 player modes are great and plentiful. been playing that and Timesplitters 2 (story mode) on Gamecube with a mate. I'm also playing Gran Turismo 5 which is special but gets hard when you have to drive faster cars, I like driving 200HP Japanese stuff...

Criminally underated game. Cool soundtrack too with Machinehead.
Everything about this game is good fun. Even the karaoke and trying to get high scores is good fun, I wish Yakuza would take a leaf out of SD’s book with it.
