I went to a lot of games last year as I decided to use my MCC benefits to watch teams other than my own and one thing became perfectly clear at the game. Almost everything has some sponsor. Goals, quarter time breaks, Half time breaks, the match itself had a sponsor. I shit you not at one Richmond game the handing of the ball to the umpires before the first bounce was "brought to you by National Storage".

Now with so many aspects of our great game still left unsponsored, I really feel like the AFL is negligent in leaving vast amounts of cash on the table. We should have sponsored
  • Set shots
  • Bounces
  • Interchanges
  • Throw ins
  • Free kicks
  • 50m penalties

All hyperbole aside, the over commercialisation of the game is becoming rather on the nose. The fact you have ads played at obnoxiously loud volumes whilst you are trying to have a chat at the breaks does my head in. I want to be able to hear the bloke next to me and not be assaulted by KFC ads. Also that guy who constantly tries to rev up the crowd at the breaks, I would pay a dragon's hoard to waterboard that prick.

to drown out the noise of KFC ads, just put a KFC bucket over your head

the modern cone of silence

Terrific OP.

Maybe player rotations could be brought to you by Bosch's new washing machine?
Could mention that 100 times a game.

It really is just odious and painful.

We all pay good money to watch a game and we end up paying to be bombarded with ads for most of the time.

The problem is the AFL are fortunate to be custodians of a monopoly sports business with fanatical quasi religious devotees so they have a captive audience who will stay engaged regardless of being treated like absolute mugs. Where are they gonna go?

The fact those in charge at the AFL feel so emboldened and entitled to abuse this privilege really says something about them.

It doesn't have to be like this either. Yet we are trained to think it is "progress" and "inevitable".

Of course, I understand we need some ads and some commercialisation is fine to support and grow the game.

But how much is too much?

Can we get a sponsership the yearly rule changes? 'We've got three new interpretations and rules brought to you by...'

I'm not awake enough to think of a clever punchline

Yes it shits me
Like you pay subscriptions to avoid ads when you pay for a ticket to a game you shouldn’t be force fed ads in every spare second.
At the mcg against the pies in the final it totally taints the experience.
90k was there surely that’s enough money for the afl coffers.
I like to talk about the play leading up to the goal with fan chants and carry on in the back ground.
Not ads and terrible music.
The flashing boundary boards also destroys the view of the game.

I’ll put up with visuals flashing everywhere along the fence and scoreboards but can they please do it in silence.

Might start selling ear plugs and ear muffs on the concourse.
