Moved Thread What I hate about BigFooty.

I've only got a couple, generally BigFooty is a very good forum and I don't really think there is much wrong with it.
Some things with the site I don't like;

Point A) The new sub-board fad we seem to be going through. I think providing it is football relevant and not a blatant trolling effort, then it deserves to stay on the main board. I don't see the need to move media related football issues and such things to another board.
I realise it is to reduce congestion on the main board, but I don't generally find this is a problem anyway. Usually popular threads, with a good initial topic will stay active and get consistently posted in, which in turn pushes the crap threads further down the list.
Issues like umpiring and the media are prevalent in modern football, and because of this I think they deserve to be discussed with everything else on the main board. Otherwise once topic are moved to sub-boards, they are never noticed again. I have never bothered to visit the sub-boards for previously mentioned topics, simply because it is just a bit annoying and inconvenient.
I, personally, already spend enough time on this website in between the main board and my clubs board, I like to just pop in on the mainboard, browse through for some topics relevant to my interests, post and then leave.
I just think at the moment some very interesting and significant subjects lose traffic due to being segregated.

Point B) - The new colour scheme. It is only a minor issue, but it is pretty off putting to say the least.
I survive with it quite easily, but it is still not something I like about this site. Makes it very dull and dreary.

Point C) - This is more just a little desire I've always had, although I am not sure if the technical support on this site could incorporate it.
I use Mozilla Firefox because it pwns, and one thing I really like about it is its incorporated spell check. But for some reason the spell check only works when you click 'New Reply' and doesn't work if you choose to do a 'Quick Post'.
I was just wondering if there is anyway to change this?

Point D) - Lastly, another small thing, but is there anyway to input a feature to stop people quoting whole bloody posts and only writing say, one lines response?
God this annoys me.

All these new boards are bloody stupid.

I don't even know what the main board is meant to be anymore.

It's to talk about football. Unless you mention the umpires. Or anything written in the media or on tv about football. Or anything about the new teams or future expansion of football. Or anything that happens during a game of football. Or anything involving youngsters set to be drafted. Or any other 'hot topic' in football that comes up. But if you can somehow think of a way of discussing football without mentioning any of the above then yeah...

No wonder the main board is just the same 5 topics being repeated over and over again.

Can't you just right click and hit 'Spell check this field'? Works for me.

I hate it when you post something about another club that is a bit of a negative, no matter how constructively you try and say it. Then the only replies you get are, "Yeah but Essendon are crap". This thread is a prime example.

The only thing I was trying to say was that if the Dogs play like that they won't beat teams like Hawthorn and Geelong but Dogs supporters decided to turn it into a "Yeah but Essendon suck" thread.

In some ways I think it is gutless to be an unlisted but on the other hand I fully understand why people do it.

The butchering of the english language, the over-the-top bias, and pointless hostility.
That's spot on.
And read the thread about picking noses in TLC. That kind of thing has been happening heaps over the last few weeks in particular.

That's what the limbo club is for. If you don't want to read that crap don't go on that board. It's the immaturity displayed in the thread that I linked in the post above that gets me. This board used to be a place where some reasonably intelligent conversation went on. Now it's full of 16 year olds where the conversation goes something like.

"Hawthorn suck".
"Yeah but Geelong suck more".
"But you're the suckiest suckers that ever did suck".

That's about the extent of the dialogue.

All mods really.
All muppets. Wanna be try hards.

Power has gone to their heads. Yet they are a mod on a footy site FFS. :D Great job.

Get a life..

-- fad terms: posters jump on terms such as muppets and just use it over and over. Also, the 'joke' of offering a half-eaten bag of twisties for player x. L.O.L

-- the term 'troll': Firstly, it's overused, secondly, it's applied incorrectly. A post about another team has to be qualified with 'this isnt a troll, but'. Criticism and observation of another team isnt trolling, it's discussion. People who dislike the idea proposed by poster are able to respond with 'this is a cleverly disguised troll'. Yes, it was so cleverly disguised it's come out looking like constructive criticism. BUT IM ON TO YOU

-- the use of the less than and greater than key's sandwhiched between two noun's, as though this is some sort of substantive response to a thread. Even worse when it is used to summarise a debate about two midfielders - Judd > Carey. How is that critically analysing footy?

-- forumer x posts something, forumer y responds with 'do you even watch footy?', as though their opinion is more valid.

-- when the above are all rolled into one post: 'you muppet, half eaten bag of twisties > cooney. dogs suk, we beat u ****'

-- spelling and grammar. It's not university, we're not looking for scholars, but do people look at what they are typing? I mean, it's not MSN, you can actually sit back, take a breath and re-read what you've typed.

-- people who dont read the entire thread and just post when they see something worth replying to: poster x says 'Buddy's kicked 800 goals to round 11', next 58 replies are 'um, Buddy's actually kicked 59, you muppet, go watch some footy, buddy > (insert forward of poster x's team), he ain't worth a half eaten bag of twisties LOL', then later on, there's always one clueless 'muppet' who chimes in three days later with the exact same reply.

-- Use of emoticons as a response. As in, Murphy > Selwood, then the next 45 mindless Carlton supporters either chime in with the same response or offer up a thumps up or a thumbs down or a huge grin. Good insight

I hate nothing about Big Footy. It gives us all a chance to give an opinion and vent our spleen.

I love the bulldust and the banter and it gives us all a chance to see the gut wrenching grief of St Kilda supporters who still rattle on about Barry Hall and how they nearly made to a GF in 2005 if it wasn't for the Swans playing lock down footy. There is no doubt in their minds that if BBH did not clock their "Matty" they would have won that game and they conveniently forget that they laid down for us in the last quarter to the tune of 6 goals, but whose counting.

After all they poached the coach from us who all and sundry said was the brains behind Roosey. How they were crowing. How sweet it is.

But hey, they are entitled to their opinion and lifetime of bitterness, after all we should all be grateful for the wonderful freedom of speech in this great country.

Don't make stupid comments and people won't write stupid responses.

For example.

It's like playing Essendon, your own team plays sucky football because you have been forced down to their sucky level.

(If somebody doesn't spot the humorous irony in my post - then that is what i hate about bigfooty)

Posters who make a massive generalisation, baseless comment or blatant exaggeration or personal insult and add a little disclaimer down the bottom of "I don't mean to offend...".

Exhibit A.

I had it coming.

What I really hate, is people that just come on bigfooty that don't talk Football at all (Except on the dedicated threads).

They'd come on and say stuff like:

"Hey, I saw like, Buddy Franklin, lastnight, like, and I like, hooked up with him"

^^^^^^
I had to put up with a guy who posted something exactly like that, except it turned out 10 times worse and 20 times more horrifying!!

only thing i disagreed with, you cant expect people to read entire threads, they go on to 20+pages on bigfooty rather quickly....

I hate it when posters ignore the merit of an argument and just splurt out something negative about the initial poster's team. I can understand this is as a response to a senseless troll, but alot of points brought up in threads on here are worth discussing. For example a thread might be brought up about a bad habit of a certain player, nothing harsh mentioned and no personal attacks, often there is even a line in the OP like ''he is a gun but...'' and people come up with these gems:
''Hows Lloyd's captaincy going?''
''Still bitter over picking Tambling ahead of Franklin?''
''Hows the bottom 4 going?''
''Enjoy 9th''

And forgive me if i am being vindictive towards them here, but the hawks supporters seem to be the worst at it.
