Krakatoa: East of Java.

There's the basis of a great disaster movie. Four volcanic explosions, the third of which was so loud it could be heard 3,000 km away in Perth. Each explosion was accompanied by tsunamis estimated to have been over 30 metres high. Several thousand cubic kilometres of material was ejected and blasted up to a height of 80 km.

The 1968 movie has a plot involving an expedition to find some valuable pearls on a sunken ship, a love relationship between the ship's captain and one of the passengers who is looking for her lost son, a large group of convicts who are taken on board then escape, and some bikini clad Japanese pearl divers. All fun stuff.

But it's a disaster of a disaster movie! There's continuity errors, overacting, characters making stupid decisions so the plot can happen, scenes that last way too long, the special effects have dated badly, and there's a musical number that is very out of place. I think it could go well with a remake.
And while they’re at it they could correct the title to its proper geographical setting of Krakatoa:West of Java

Plus Krakatoa is west of Java

Masters of the Universe, as much as a cult classic the original movie is, it was nothing to how a MOTU could have been if it was set in Eternia, rather than Earth. Not to mention the bad acting from Courtney Cox
