Why would the distribution have to cease?
They would be in AFL - Div 2 (or call it what ever name would be more palatable to people) , yes its a new, fickle market but what would have changed from the position they already are in?
I could argue they would have been a lot more competitive and won more games, possibly getting bigger crowds. Possibly had less floggings playing against similar teams around them as they rebuild.
Fair enough
I didn't have my head around what you were proposing.

I'd still have concerns about teams languishing in the second tier with a significant time delay to contend. This would tend to switch off supporters.

You'd also potentially lose traditional rivals matchups that generate interest.

Introducing a relagation system would mean that the AFL (assuming draft was kept and salary cap maintained) would have to distribute the wealth (media deal) amoung roughly 80 teams, not only the Premier league but the feeder state league's.
The draft would also have to include those feeder teams so, the Premier league champion would have pick 80 odd in the draft.
Otherwise 2nd tier teams will never get access to elite talent required to enter the Premier league.

Otherwise there will be a system of a elite unchanging top 6 and a bottom 4 that constantly rotates in and out of the Premier league.

Also it opens up to top prospects tanking to be picked in the Premier league.
Relagation just doesn't work.

How do you get 80 teams from a 20 team, 2 tier competition?

Have your whole list on the bench.

If you get 12 goals up rest your guns and play some rookies etc. Give them a taste.

Have set rotations.

Have 16 a side on the field.

Have a 12-14 team comp.

2 x SA
2 x WA
1 x QLD
1 x TAS
2 x NSW
5 x VIC

Play each other home and away.

Final 6. Reward for making finals.

1. It can happen now, teams at the bottom of the ladder may bring less sponsors money. Profile of the comp is the job of the AFL, broadcasters and the clubs to promote.
2 Happens now, teams at the lower end of the ladder generally have lower crowds and the memberships drop.
3. Again, that is a job of the AFL negotiators. The can spin it as more games, bigger audience, prom/reg excitement blahblahblah
4. Happens now.
5. Sorry havent seen the reason why they cant go together. Bottom teams already suck the top kids, what changes from the norm? salary cap has a huge bearing on player movement and the restriction of players going to top teams.
6. Every club in recent history, except for Melbourne, Carlton and GC have moved up and down the ladder. Some more than others, but that is up to the clubs to run there organisation correctly. Rule of thumb with the top 8 now is two in two out, that gives you an idea of that clubs always move up and down.

We are not far off a two tier comp now, just bite the bullet and split it.
No, you don't get it.

Bottom teams now are still in the AFL. They still play Collingwood on a roll, they still play West Coast. They still play games that are significant for the 8, even if they are out of it. AFL clubs get a premium on sponsorship, because it's the AFL.

All immediately ceases if they are in a lower division.

What is the sponsorship like of a NEAFL team? Because that's where GC and Lions are headed with a bullet if relegated.

Seriously, NSW and Qld teams could easily have non distribution money drop to a quarter or less, it would immediately suck millions out of the AFL.

Yours is my dream plan for the A league, because I hate the A league, and want it to die.

I am talking about a two tier system that will still be called the AFL.
Collingwood and West coast could find themselves in Div 2, under my proposal Collingwood would have been playing for promotion and not in the Div 1 GF last year.
It is still the AFL but 2 tiers, Div 1 and Div 2. Two up tow down.

The A League has a long way to go and will improve, its still only young.

In the recent 17 plus 5 plus finals proposal there would have effectively been 3 divisions for the last couple of months of a season. Why want that adopted again?

Would’ve good for the lols seeing port melbourne and Williamstown come in to div 2 and show Queensland clubs freo etc how it’s done

Currently if teams have a bad year there’s hope they’ll play finals next year
A two tiered system only allows hope they’ll be in the top tier the following season

I’d bet more players will demand trades to top tiered teams and consistent top 4 teams that are well resourced

Salary cap won’t allow that.

Assuming the top ten is the div1

WCE premiers 2018. 8th in 2017 in div 1 would have missed relegation by 0.5%

Rich premiers 2017 13th in 2016 would have missed promotion by 1 win and 26% ie premiership impossible

WB premiers 2016 6th in 2015 wellclear of relegation (3 wins clear)

For 2019. North and port would have been relegated, essendon and Adelaide promoted. In fact all four teams had the same wins and about 4% separated them

Each year 4 of the proposed 20 teams would restructure, 20% of the teams in total.

On average a team would spend five years, one being promoted/relegated, two in division one, two in division two

The average would be a grand final every ten years, but any team would have on average five years in which to achieve that

Who knows what finals would be like

I think the red ball and yellow ball should be removed and all games have either a white ball.
The it won’t matter what time the game starts it is always the same.
You could do the same with a yellow ball really. And that would show up better for players looking up to overcast skies.
I've umpired with a white ball before on a cloudy day and it sucked - it's also harder to see if the ball passed in front of or behind a post. Similar to red ball with red behind posts in SA.

SA Have Red Behind posts?

SA Have Red Behind posts?
They did at SANFL level. At league grounds they've mostly (all?) been replaced by white as they got taller ones. Many suburban and country grounds still have them.

pink ball for every game?
I want a colour that works for all timeslots
Yellow works. They use it for 3.00 MCG games and twilight games in bright sunshine already, and the colour has been around so long now it'd hardly be a change to bring it in for afternoon games.
