88 Pansonic Cup Night Grand Final against Hawthorn and then the wetest game I've ever been to against Footscray the same year at the Whitten Oval (I've forgotton what the ovals real name is). Boy that game was wet.

Used to go to all the Cats games at the Western Oval around that time. Recall quite a few wet ones but one which sticks in the mind featured Senior kicking a soggy , brick like footy 60M+ from the wing to the top of the square. Happened right in front of us and sounded like a shotgun blast when it left his boot - that boy had some legs on him :thumbsu:

Don't forget how much fun it was to see 4 losing day Grand Finals plus 3 losing night Grand Finals (1988, 1989, 1997) in that period too. Barrel of laughs all around.

Reminds me of that chick flick , 27 dresses , we were forever the bridesmaids in those days.
Thank goodness for 2007 and beyond.

1993, Essendon v Geelong MCG.

I clearly remember almost not going with my parents that day, but at the last second changing my mind. I remember walking up the steps into the Olympic Stand for the first time, seeing Ablett kick 14 in a losing side, and I remember telling my mum we would be going to the footy every week from now on. :D

Earliest memories are of the 75-77 period. Vague memories of Larry Donohue, Ken Newland, Mike Woolnough, Jack Hawkins etc. I have strong memories of the late 70's, early 80's when we were playing finals. Loved Terry Bright and Micky Turner as a kid. I used to drive my 2 younger brothers mad naming my best team each week back when I was 9 or 10 and expecting them to participate in discussion. It's funny, because 30 or more years later I still like to do it almost as a means of relaxation!

My first year was 1972 as north fan went to 74.75.76.77.78 grand finals played little league for 3 yrs with north then 1980 north where out of finals family had ticketts geel v carl.then wanted to go rebel and pick my side not go with family so from 1981 that was it i was a cat

nice one, you pick one
as a reader (and poster) mainly on regional footy forums forgot about the "Richmond" support alias on the current log-on
on big footy regional threads u can usually pick who the actual person is by linking the AFL affiliation to what they have to say.
hence the need to adopt a ring-in. Well spotted, tho' !!

No need for a pre-nuptial.Missus NOT innarested in footy .... or any sport, really.

1963 or 1964 - Cats V Dons at Kardinia Park
Came down by train , pissing with rain all day , sat 1st row under a clear plastic sheet - still remember the sound the rain made on it.
Can't remember who won but can remember my Grandad being very happy , so probably us.
Off for a lie down now...........so tired

1963 for me.
My first really memorable game may have been 1964, the day Terry Callan, who my dad rated, did his knee. Last game he was to ever play.
Standing room only, they were the days, and like Sttew, right beside the players race; the highlights were seeing the team emerge from the rooms, and smell (Liniment) them. Games back then were an endurance at age 7, 8, 9.

Saw every minute of all three games. :(

For the record, only 2 of those games were GF's, the other was a draw replay, but was our "GF " anyway, effectively.
Richmond beat NM the week after at Arctic Park in the U19 GF.

True, but I wouldn't give them up in a million years if the alternative was that we were just going to be an average unremarkable side. 89 is still my favourite season of football despite the recent premierships. A team wins the premiership every year. Geelong fans got to watch an individual performance that only comes around once every 50 years or so in 89.

My matchwas when Riccardi kicked that winning goal against Carlton. I've will never forget that day in my footy life.
Ha.
We gave up on that game.

A mate and I were in the medallion club and decided to go inside to the bar.
Met a few Blues supporters and watched it behind the glass. They were dumb struck.

Did I hug you that day?
Did an awful lot of Catfan hugging after Ricco got that goal, anybody & everybody in sight that was Geelong was doing the same.

Can think of 3 years I preferred immediately - 2007, 2009, and 2011.

I only remember my dad and his friends and his friends hugging me and giving me high fives. I remember that people were jumping up and down and cheering like crazy. Anyway I was only a 3 year old and I don't think you would of hugged a 3 year old ;) .

I threw a 10 year old in the after the siren in the 2009 Grand Final. He didn't seem to mind, and neither did his Mum. :D

I think we have discussed this before but this was also my first live cats game and I was also up top of the olympic stand!!

My first live game of footy was out at Windy Hill about 1987 watching Essendon Vs Swans (Capper!!!)

I also vividly remember watching the 1988 GF on tv

1970 at the Western Oval.

Only a tacker and wore my knitted Geelong Guernsey (grandma special) with a big plastic number 35 stitched to the back (loved that smell) and matching plastic football boots.

Cats lost... but I was hooked.

Nar I was ground level. Back in the good old days, you could sit where you wanted, no reserved seating. :thumbsu:
