What year did you first watch footy?

On TV - 1964 (brand new black and white set), live - 1974 at Victoria Park, Collingwood v Hawthorn (don't ask), first game live to see Cats - 1984 SCG Swans v Geelong with Yaaablett!!

Hate this time of year, Test matches finished, boring one day games started, pre-season cup not yet started and injury rumours rife. Should have gone back for a polluted Chinese winter and returned in March.

Have followed the Cats from a distance, first Tassie now Newcastle. First live game I can remember was against Swans at SCG in 1994(?) when Ablett snr kicked about 14. First Kardinia Park games was 2004 when we beat Brisbane. Both games a lot of fun!

Sure was. Made the trip up for it. Nice thing was he kicked 11 at our end - 6 in the second quarter, 5 in the last. :)

We just moved to whatever end Ablett was playing at. Wasn't too many at the game. Remember Buddha Hocking running through the centre untouched all day dropping it onto Ablett's chest. Also remember Andrew Dunkley, the Swans fullback, getting a big cheer from the Geelong supporters for actually getting a fist to a ball during the last quarter. Poor bugger - he wasn't getting too much help.

I didn't really like footy that much until the 1989 season (as a 9 year old) such an awesome season not only because the Cats did well but I was just captivated by footy that year and I was hooked for life, I started collecting footy cards, newspaper clippings, stickers, posters etc.. etc.. Watching all the shows and replays, analysing the matches (as much as a 9 year old can) and being the only Geelong supporter in my class defending my club against the usual Hawthorn, Collingwood and Carlton supporters, especially on casual cloths days when I use to wear by Geelong jumper :)

arrrrr... loved them days life was simple wish I could go back :(

The first time I went to a Geelong game is pretty much the earliest thing I can recollect. We were living in the house my Dad built in Belmont and I went with Dad and our next door neighbor. I would have been 4 maybe 5. Dad had a gladstone bag with some sandwiches and a thermos and I remember collecting empty beer cans from the ground so I could make a platform against the fence so I could see. It would have been 1960 or 61. Can't recall who we played but there would have been a few soon to be legends of the '63 side running around and perhaps some aging legends from the '51 and '52 sides.

1991. home game against Adelaide. A very enjoyable year and a forgotten one as most people like to keep talking about 1989.
pretty exciting finals too with a close win over the 'Aints and a narrow loss to the Dawks. they always seem to win close ones against us back then.

and didnt the West Coke get a free hit back then getting unlimited access to WA players. we would have definatly won a flag if not for their unfair advantage.

First live match was in Sydney about 1997 or 1998. Being from Tassie it was hard to get to games.
Highlights prior to that include:
Writing to the club as a 7 yo in 1968 and getting a complimentary membership and then bugging Mum and Dad regularly to take me to Geelong. No chance as Dad was a Tigers man and Mum wasn't interested until the WCE entered and they were broke.
Going to the 1976 GF on a school trip and seeing Larry Donahue in the crowd about 10 rows back.
Being in Geelong on a holiday with the family and watching training. Son got a photo with Senior. Trip highlight for sure.

Moved to Canberra and make a few games a season now including "home games" in Sydney.

First attended in 1989 - went to Geelong V Richmond (Gazza's 14 goal game). Remember crying after the G/F :( Didn't really follow in 1990, but got into it in a big way in '91. started attending games in late '91/'92

Early memory of watching Richmond win the flag in 1980, we were down in the big smoke at my grandparents so we didnt have a footy, just a basketball so my brother dragged me out at half time to play kick to kick with that. My dad is a Tiger's man and we all just thought, well this is good Im sure we'll see a few more Tiger flags soon....poor dad :(

Would that be the record for most goals scored at end for a match?
Piggy got 18 in a game, don't know the end to end b/d.

Lockett? No he didn't. His best was 16. Dunstall's best was 17 against Richmond at Waverley.
wonder what piggy's end to end breakdown was for those 17 , now that you mention Ablett's 11 at one end
