The greatest showman - Hugh’s passion project and an absolute tour de force. This isn’t the best movie of the year but damned if it isn’t the most bright, fun and bop along to. The score is brilliant and it has a whole lot of heart. Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and the cast of misfits are brilliant. Absolutely loved the schmalzy, sugary high. 9/10

Blade Runner 2049
Huge Blade Runner fan. Saw it at the Nova. The cinema was dirty, the screen was the size of a mid-range TV and some dude was snoring in front of me. Still loved it. Movie definitely picked up once Harrison Ford arrived tho. Soundtrack was respectful and good. 9/10.

Yeah after La La Land im not due for another musical for at least 10 years.

After watching sound of music 50 times as a kid (one tv so my sis got to choose the movies sometimes) im done with musicals for life. Especially after getting sucked into La La Land.

Adventureland

I really loved this movie. Takes me to my childhood visiting the carnival at Rye beach during the christmas-new year period.

It’s got a kick ass 80s rock soundtrack, including a couple of Aussie classics by INXS, crowded house.

Really strong cast with Jessie Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Bill Hader.

Ryan Reynolds is also in it but his performance is a bit different. The movie is a classic teen movie with a few comedy spots but Reynolds plays it straight throughout the film. I don’t think I’ve seen a movie where Reynolds is casted and he isn’t funny.

Also Lisa P. Is damn hot.

Never seen Sound of Music. The only musicals I like are Blues Brothers, Chicago and La La. And I guess Grease, just.

Ah shit I forgot I have seen Grease 50 times as well haha.

Yeah I'll admit to seeing Grease quite a few times, as well as my school's live production of it. :$
(Heres a not so fun fact- I think ONJ and Travolta own the rights to the song "you're the one that i want", so therefore my school was not allowed to perform it. Had some crappy shit song no ones ever heard of instead)

Hey was looking thru the BB 2014 thread the other day. I miss you guys.

BB14 good times! Are the podcasts still up? I should go listen to them again one day.

Also lol at not being able to use "your the one that I want" in a school play as if anyone would know.

Well that's the rules apparently- and they are selling tickets/performing it off the school grounds idk. The school still had to purchase rights/permission to use the show, and that song doesnt come with it.

Lol yes the podcasts are still up. I think theres a thread with them started by ODN too.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) - Surprisingly conventional horror/thriller from Yorgos Lanthimos. I still liked this and it was darker and more uncompromising than the average horror movie but I was slightly underwhelmed overall. Certainly a well made movie with great acting & score. Also quite gruesome at parts which caught me slightly off guard. There was some trademark jet black humour present but I was hoping for more. Also the pacing was quite slow throughout. Certainly not a bad movie but I was hoping for more, this movie could've been made by a number of director's whilst his previous work was thoroughly original. 7/10

I was about to write exactly the same thing. Good movie but just fell short, I don’t think it help having such big expectations after The Lobster either.

Is that the cartoon where a guy stranded on an island ****s a turtle?

played at somerville outdoor theatre

I only went because of the great weather but enjoyed it
