The New Jurassic World movie

dear god they just went **** it here's a bunch of random scenes with no logical reason other than indulgence/fan service

waste of some good actors and a decent budget

Statham is one of few remaining pure action movie stars, knows his limitations, doesnt really seek the stretch them.

For a very limited actor hes made a brilliant career.

It wouldn’t hurt to try a bit. In Spy he did, branched out to comedy a bit and was the highlight of the film.

Like Rock knows his limitations but a film like Faster he tries to add a bit of drama and seriousness to the action, and it works too.

As long as they, you know, don’t attempt a stop or my mum will shoot thing. Dipping the toe in to other styles of acting and film is usually a good move.

In Bruges

After putting this film on the queue for over a decade, finally got around to watching this on Netflix. So much great dialogue.

I loved In Bruges. Sent me running to watch Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.

Whenever I hear people talk about In Bruges I want to recommend The Guard (2011), watched it again recently on Stan and was reminded how great it is.

I reckon it's a much closer match than Martin McDonaghs other movies which aren't quite on the same level. Probably due largely to the Brendan Gleeson factor who just kills it in both films.

I just learned that the filmmaker is Martin McDonagh's brother John, makes sense as the humour is very on point. Almost the perfect crime-comedy for me (along with In Bruges).

New Jurassic world movie - a bit strange, not really about the dinosaurs but a poor James Bond plot with someone trying to ruin the world.

The motorbike scene could be taken from any Bond film but with raptors chasing him

At least the 2nd half had heaps of dinosaurs.

Step-son loved it which was the main reason we went. I still enjoyed it for what it was, dinosaurs. Still nothing beats the original Jurassic Park.

Wyrmwood - Netflix

Its not high art - its an Ozzombie set in the very near future - and really its terrible

Went to switch it off many times but felt compelled to watch it to the end.

Some things worked and others thought up after a night on the cones didnt.

I did like how the movie unfolded - I think choosing the backstory method helped keep me watching. A linear lets survive this shit would have had me reaching for the remote

Its about 30 minutes too long and they could have done without the mad scientist and had a better movie

I love the Jurassic Park original characters heaps, and even do like Chris Pratt's new character from Jurassic. It's a ****ing travesty that they've managed to get them all together and by the sounds of it can't write them for shit, so just gone for some action heavy stupid movie rather than a movie based around people, like the first one was.

Jurassic Park after the original one is just garbage.

Even that if you put aside the ground breaking special effect is only an average movie.
The first half of Lost World is great I reckon. It falls apart when they head to America.

The scenes with Sam and Laura and Jeff are good

There's half a good movie in there

Operation Mincemeat (2021)

The story of the operation to deceive Hitler that the allies were going to invade Greece and not Sicily. It's framed within the writing of a young Ian Fleming.

It's very British, wholesome, and at times a bit cheesy. The telling of the deception is a good yarn. Colin Firth is good, of course. It gets bogged down with an unnecessary romantic sub-plot that pushes the runtime out to an overly long 2 hours.

4/10

Requiem for a Dream
Re-watched it after a long time when i probably didn't appreciate it as much the 1st time around. Powerful movie and for what it is and conveys its a real masterpiece. You have to be in a certain mood to watch it though, its the complete opposite of a happy feel good movie. Loved every bit of it nevertheless.

The score by Clint Mansell is a masterpiece. I used to think(20 years ago) that this film should be shown in High Schools as an an educational video. But that's kind of going against the grain.

The book is very good too.

The Batman - as others have said way too long. Rate it a poor third to Nolan’s two movies. Takes itself way too seriously and overdoes the darkness to the point it makes Batman too one dimensional. Other characters, like most comic book movies, are caricatures and hollow. What was the point so soon after the Nolan movies? Agree with poster on here who compared it to Joker in terms of disappointing. Both try too hard movies - 6/10

Hustle -
easy to watch but a little too predictable and contrite and yeah looked like a promo for NBA - 6/10

Great, great movie. I don't think it ever got the recognition it deserved, maybe because it's such uncomfortable viewing it may have put a lot of people off. I thought it was the best movie of that year - certainly better than Gladiator which won the Oscar.

San Andreas (2015)

Watched this last night cos there was not much on, and we found it on Prime. It's a fun movie to take the piss out of The Rock, who is like a superhero in this movie. I still can't get over how he can decide to fly a fire dept rescue helicopter to San Francisco from LA, and no one like calls him on the radio and asks where are you going with our helicopter. We need it in LA cos, you know, we just had a 9.5 earthquake here. Um, Rock? You there? Rock? ROCK? The disaster pr0n element is pretty well done. They had some budget to put into it, by the looks of it. But Rock and his cheesy lines and superhero antics are an absolute crack-up. His daughter (in the movie) is quite the hotty too, yet somehow gets hooked up with the most mediocre-looking white guy you could imagine. Naturally, according to Hollywood law, you can't have a strong female lead without having a weak male one as her love interest. That's how they roll in Hollywood. We had fun watching this B-grade flick. 5/10 (as an action movie it's average, as a comedy it's gold).

Disagree with most of this.

I didn't find Batman one dimensional at all. He's still trying to figure out what type of hero Gotham needs him to be. By the end he realises they need a symbol of hope, not one of vengeance. We see him in his element as not just a fighter, a developing one who makes mistakes, but also as the World's Greatest Detective. Loved it.

Batman characters by their very nature are over the top and zany. Why would you want The Penguin to be anything other than a caricature of a mob boss? Hollow isn't a word I would use to describe Farrell's performance, or Kravitz as Catwoman. Both were great.

Nolan did 3 movies, not 2.

Joker was critically acclaimed, not many people would label it as disappointing.

Batman could have been shorter, but that didn't detract too much from my enjoyment of the film.

68% on RT, sounds like critics were a bit divided

I watched it a little while ago on streaming, was somewhat underwhelmed given how much praise it got online… I appreciate it when a superhero film tries to do things a bit differently, but they’re always going to be a bit limited by the inherently silly nature of the genre

Always seems like a bit of a lost opportunity to make an interesting film without the comic book baggage

We’ve seen it all before with the Nolan movies. Nothing new to say.
