This is a terrible take. Truly ******* terrible.

I'm on a bit of a time travel / time loop theme ...

Saw "Timecrimes" about a month ago. Excellent. Saw "Triangle" a while back. Excellent. Saw "ARQ" the other day. Excellent.

Last night watched "Haunter" and "12:01".

Haunter was a blend of time loop and horror. Interesting combo. It was just ok tho, not enough horror in the blend, and the reveal comes midway and kinda ruins it, making it obvious/predictable/mundane where it goes.

12:01 is a bit of a little known or cult classic. It was released before Groundhog Day, tho in the same year, and the makers of the film tried suing the makers of GD for plagiarism, but GD ended up being the really famous/lauded one, and 12:01 forgotten. But I didn't think the two movies were very similar, maybe a couple things. Some people consider 12:01 a better or more complex/interesting story than GD, but they're wrong. 12:01 was enjoyable/ok, but not epic/great like GD, which also delves into depths that 12:01 didn't even approach.

I have a bunch more to get thru over the week.

Apart from Ledger's simply unbelievable performance The Dark Knight is a just a good film with not much that is overly great about it.

And I'm with the guys from South Park, the way Bale plays Batman is rather annoying particularly the stupid way he talks.

Putting aside that I think Joker is a shitty dumbed down version of King of Comedy that plays like every sadboi incels wet dream. The Dark Knight trilogy is universally lauded for a bunch of different reasons. You wanna take Joker over the whole trilogy thats your business, it’s mine to note how bad an opinion that is.

It's good movie but it's overrated mainly carried by the freakish brilliance of Ledger. Plus I forgot the awful Maggie Gyllenhall.

Joker is rated by critics so it's not some ridiculous opinion to prefer it, at least away from the superhero nerd community anyway. Also on IMDB with the general movie goer it's 8.4 v TDK at 9..

Fair but your also not just comparing the two, you’re talking about the whole trilogy.

I’m only half joking, you can have your opinion and you can have Joker.

Decided to do an Alien movie a week recently. Up to Resurrection tonight and I remember it being historically awful.

Keen as.
Are you doing extended or theatrical cuts? I found Alien 3, in particular, to be a much better movie in its extended cut. I forget what they called it, not a "director's cut", though, because David Fincher disowned the whole thing after getting f*cked over by the studio during filming. But you get a vague look at the movie it might have been, at least.

There is no redeeming Resurrection, though. That one is just a turd.

Whatever version is on Disney+.

I never minded Alien 3 though, the concept is sound (apart from the fact they killed off Newt and Hicks before the opening credits even rolled) but yeah it is clear that it was one of those movies that had its struggles behind the scenes and the finished product showed.

Alien Resurrection could be improved by not killing off Michael Wincott, and no, that's not a spoiler, it's a warning.

Wouldnt mind seeing Lightyear on the big screen but don't wanna look like a pedo at a 11am session by myself as a 42 y.o.

That's why I'm glad my wife loves animated movies. She always wants to see them, so I can pretend I'm just being dragged along even though I actually want to see (most of) them as much as she does :D

Operation Mincemeat (2021)

The story of the operation to deceive Hitler that the allies were going to invade Greece and not Sicily. It's framed within the writing of a young Ian Fleming.

It's very British, wholesome, and at times a bit cheesy. The telling of the deception is a good yarn. Colin Firth is good, of course. It gets bogged down with an unnecessary romantic sub-plot that pushes the runtime out to an overly long 2 hours.

4/10

My sister watched it and said her favourite part was the romantic sub-plot. Perhaps it's an exemplar of what males and females typically appreciate in movies. Of course you can't over-generalise but clearly different material appeals to different audiences.

Deep Water... erotic thriller from the director of Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal. Starts off well enough, the relationship between Ben Affleck and Ana de Amas is suitably awkward and intriguing. But it ultimately goes off the boil and becomes less a thriller and more a melodramatic daytime movie that also doesn't really go anywhere. And while Affleck's dead eye acting works for some parts, it totally doesn't for others. 5/10, with at least one of those points for Ana de Amas, who is gorgeous.

Adam Sandler's latest, Hustle.
Loved it. I've never been a massive Sandler fan. Always had him in the same boat as Jim Carey - slapstick(ish), toilet humour that misses more than it hits.
I think this is the kind of stuff he should focus on moving forward. More serious, but still plenty of laughs. Just laughs that don't require him to act like a cartoon or talk about bodily functions.

I don't know how someone can go from Hubie Halloween to Hustle.
