Its 30 minutes too long

As part of my Xmas marathon I watched Die Hard - probably 30+ years since I watched it - and I dont think it left me with any more fascination than it did then

I dont hate it . Its a competent action movie with cartoon heroes and cartoon baddies. But I have no emotional connection that others seem to have

The lines are iconic and the interplay is ok. Its just ehh. Maybe a tighter shorter movie might have helped but its not in my top 50 movies and its not in my top 20 Xmas movies

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a great feelgood movie but it's a Thanksgiving feel good movie not a Christmas feel good movie.

Scrooged was the best Christmas feel good 80s movie with Bill Murray until Christmas Vacation arrived later on with Chevy Chase.

Die Hard isn't even in the contest for me.

Die hard is a christmas movie for action fans who probably dont sit down and watch anything but action movies. But it doesnt stack up with actual christmas movies.

Christmas Vacation in my view is by far the best Christmas movie. Stands up today. Too often classics are over looked for modern outlooks but even the original miracle on 34th street in 40s NYC is fantastic. White Christmas is another. I do think Its a wonderful life is a little over rated but its ok.

I think it really depends on your own criteria for Christmas movies to be fair.

Some people have just got “set at Christmas” as the criteria. I think that’s fair enough. Some people have “Christmas is central to the plot and theme of the movie” and some have got “hallmark style Xmas movies only”.

Might be a hot take but I think the vast majority of PURE Christmas movies aren’t very good at all.

Speaking of Giamatti, I'll recommend The Holdovers. Seems to fit the bill. Is a feelgood movie, he's grumpy in it and it's set at Christmas.

I don’t really have a go-to (full on/pure) Christmas movie.

Home Alone would be my populist choice, in that I wouldn’t mind watching it once a year if need be and the seasonal feels are abundant, but it isn’t like it makes my 1990 top 10 or anything.

Watched Carry-On (2024) on Netflix. Easy, background filler whilst you're wrapping Xmas gifts etc. Running time could have been cut by at least 30 minutes in my opinion - remove the repeated references to the pregnant girlfriend and their amazing love story. Maybe I'm a cynical old hag, but I prefer my action without a serve of cheesy romance. The scenes featuring Jason Bateman were the most enjoyable, although I might be biased because I've been crushing on him since Valerie.

Jason Bateman is so hot. Have you watched the Smartless behind the scenes show? It’s Bateman, Will Arnett (also hot af) and the guy who played Jack on Will and Grace.

Carry On was good - especially for a Netflix movie.

I've been overseas for the past month so haven't watched much at all.

Watched Beetlejuice for the first time on the plane, that was a ripper.

Keen to try and catch up on some shit I haven't seen over the next few days and some Christmas movies too.

Holdovers is a modern Christmas classic too yep. Will watch that with the fam next week.

Probably going to try do the usuals although I haven't seen most in years - The Grinch, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation and a few eps of The Moody's.

Agree with the sentiment, Carry-On was good. Yes, some plot holes if you thought about it a bit harder, but let's not.

It was an easy watch and compelling enough. The tension in the first couple of acts was especially good.

Watched Kraven the Hunter because I had a few hours to kill.

It's probably surpassed Jurassic World: Dominion as the worst film I've seen this century. Can't think of anything positive to say about it. I'm assuming the dialogue was AI generated? There's no chance some of it was written by actual functioning human beings.

The one decent action set piece is ruined by these bizarre splashes of CGI blood. The lead actor, who was great in Bullet Train, is badly miscast and the character himself seems to have been badly changed into some kind of eco-warrior? For modern sensibilities, I guess.

Don't even get me started on the villain. Just bizarre.

Probably one to see if you want a chuckle? I laughed out loud on several occasions, though I don't think I was meant to.

Well nah, you probably wouldn't if she died, hey.

Not your traditional Christmas movie, but a fun little stroll down nostalgia lane nonetheless.

Oh yeh, I didn’t realise what he’d done prior to this.

The Sony/marvel verse has been basically a disaster. Hopefully they just hand over the rights now so the actual MCU can use the characters.

Finally watched Heretic (2024).
That was great, awesome tension building, amazing performances by all, Ive always rated Sophie Thatcher from Yellowjackets.

The filmmakers probably enjoy the smell of their farts a little too much because at times some of the deliberate "filmmaking" was a bit distracting.

Solid 8/10, highly recommend
