Back In Action - Netflix

Cameron Diaz , Jamie Foxx and Andrew ' Ripley ' Scott

Lets be quite clear and upfront - this was a terrible terrible movie that missed the mark on so many characters

Spies come out of retirement to find something lost 15 years ago and the ensuing hijinx and shenanigans and double triple twists that come with it - oh and they have 2 under 15 yr old kids - who they havent mentioned they were spies

Was it funny - it had amusing moments but the characters were 1 dimensional - ''bumbling idiot ' is a bumbling over the top bumbling idiot

Then they do something omg amazing

But its Saturday night and I didnt care about the 40 million plot holes because it was escapism

My expectations were low and they were met

I don’t understand your application of conservatorship?

To me it could have been Dances with Wolves Part 2

It goes in cycles; maybe with 4 Hollywood studios left it’s up to streaming

The power of the dog was brilliant

American Primeval might pique some motivation

Godless was epic but a few years ago now

Loved The English

1883 to a lesser extent

So film and tv appear every so often and will continue
I haven’t seen it but most of the reviews I’ve seen or read are much more in line with Roobs review than yours.

I’d suggest the (tongue in cheek) conservatorship comment is to do with the fact he self funded this pretty obvious vanity project.

I’d also suggest the (tongue in cheek) westerns comment is about what this might do to the genre in the future, not the current state of it.

I think it’s all a little hyperbole for the sake of the theatre of a bad review.

Ok.

The Substance - time to be a contrarian. Great horror effects and great performances but a pretty lousy movie. One that regularly contradicts its point, one that satirises a Hollywood it seems to have no familiarity with, and one that doesn't seem to understand its own central conceit. At 140 minutes, it's way too long. References to The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Vertigo and The Thing just made me wish I was watching any of them.

L'Avventura (1960) - Michelangelo Antonioni left me a little cold when I first explored him as a youngster so I finally watched this, which I probably should've watched long ago. A group of wealthy Italians take a boat out and frolick on a deserted island, only for one of the party to mysteriously disappear. It's a pivotal film for its ambiguities and being driven by characters and mood more than plot. It does lose a bit of momentum in its second half but then that's kind of the point. It's pretty great, maybe I should revisit him some more!

The Apprentice (2024)

This biopic about the early years of Donald Trump was an interesting movie, and the acting performances in it were noteworthy. The film shows how Trump went from a mediocre slumlord in NYC to the man we know him to be today, thanks to the nasty lawyer Roy Cohen mentoring him. Cohen is the most complex character in this movie, being an avowed hard-right conservative but also a self-hating homosexual. Cohen seemed to live a homosexual lifestyle but denied he was ever Gay, even denying he was dying of AIDs when he was. The transformation of Trump from a try-hard to a die-hard during the movie is well played. 7/10 (Good)

Watched Dead Calm last night. Just scrolling through binge and saw it and thought why not.
Prob my fave Nicole Kidman movie.
Billy Zane plays a great nut job
Thought this and The Others were her best roles. Watched Northman last night and thought she was badly miscast

Wife went down to the peninsula with her pals over weekend so got to watch some dumb shit:
- Ambulance, I enjoyed this way more than I should :D, felt like Bay discovered drones just before he started filming. Recently upgraded my 10 year old tv for a 4k LG and this was the perfect movie to watch on it.

- Den of Thieves, heard the Big Picture guys refer to this as garbage Heat. For most part that was accurate and it was exactly what I wanted but then it shifted to garbage
Usual Suspects with the final twist
Which really didn't work.

turkey shoot, early 80s Ozploitation dystopian future movie with the standard trope of elites hunting people for fun.
I love my trashy 70s/80s exploitation flicks but this was really poor quality. About 2 or 3 entertaining gory kills but the rest of it was truly awful, even the audio track was out of sync with the video.
For some reason the British actress Olivia Hussey was in it (if you ever studied Romeo & Juliet in high school you would know her from the old 60s version, she was also the OG final girl in Black Christmas).

Is Nicole super hot in that or am I thinking of a different movie?

They just did a re rewatchables for it, I personally think its a bit better than garbage Heat but i can see why it gets that tag.

While serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, a family man finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma, one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict or free the wrong killer.

A solid while not an exceptional crime procedural movie that explores guilt, justice and the limitations of American law.

Its definitely a "TV movie" as opposed to a movie you would want to go and see in the cinema. 6/10

I’ve never managed to see it despite wanting to for many years, so you mentioning it had crept on Binge/Foxtel had me let out a cheer

I thought this was expertly crafted and had you thinking what you would do in your situation. The fact Clint is making things like this in his 90s is crazy to me. 8/10
