I might do a re-read along with it as well. I don't usually read more than 1 book at a time but for small chunks of WoT, I will make an exception. I have been wanting to go back and do another read through anyway.

I’m listening to Chapter 38 of The Shadow Rising right now, Hidden Faces, none of the main characters are in this chapter, it’s mainly second or third tier bad guys and probably a third tier Seanchan character who get’s a couple of POV chapters and OMFG there’s a hidden character in this chapter that I didn’t even realise came into the story this early! My mind was blown. I was like...OMFG I’d forgotten that that character appeared here! I knew who it was despite not being told the real name of the character. I now see why a lot of people say they actually get more out of a reread of this series. It’s so weird picking up things like that.

Doing my first re-read since the last book came out and finished the series. Just up to Crossroads of Twilight. As per previous re-reads I read everything in books 1 - 4, as no storylines seemed there to keep characters 'on-screen'. Books 5 and 6 I start skipping parts of Elayne, Nynaeve and Egwene. By book 8 I'm quick skimming anything to do with getting the Throne of Andor, Mat after the Seanchan arrive, but before getting back with the Band or Perrin meeting Masema or rescuing Faile. Those are the most torturous parts of the series.

I re-read before each new book as they were coming out, so have read the early books many times, but AMoL just the once so far. Will be interesting to see what I pick up the second time around of that (in a month or two).

I‘ve only read A New Spring and Books 1-9. Haven’t read 10-14 yet so it’ll be interesting to see how the last third of the series differs as a first read through to the first two third’s which is a reread. I’ve never read a Brandon Sanderson novel so I’m excited to not only read books I haven’t read before but also a new author I’ve never read.

I’m going to have trouble getting through Egwene and Elayne POV chapters though which I think, from what I’ve heard anyway, are numerous in Book 10.

Nynaeve’s my favourite character, I get why some people may not like her but I personally can’t fathom skipping her chapters. Especially from Fires of Heaven onwards. That’s when all the stuff with Logain and Moghedien start which are some of my favourite parts of these stories...despite all the Aes Sedai she’s got to deal with and Egwene and Elayne being prevalent.

However having said that...I just remembered all the Bowl of the Winds stuff from about book 6 onwards and yeah I get it. Despite Nynaeve, Birgitte and Mat in those sections the Seafolk, circus and Elayne are very painful.

Crossroads of Twilight (10) is awful. Outside the Prologue it could be a one chapter recap at the start of book 11, that little happens. Book 11 gets it back on track and is the best of the series after Lord of Chaos IMO, as plotlines got resolved and the field cleared for the Last Battle.

Egwene in the later books went from being one of my least liked characters to one of my most liked. Her arc in the last few books is superb IMO although I know some don't like it as much as I did.

In regards to Elayne, I have said it before and I will say it again. She is completely and utterly pointless so your trouble getting through her chapters will continue. The only time I enjoy her is when she interacts with Mat.

Oh, are you in for treat re: Sanderson.

I have heard that about Egwene. I’m hoping my opinion of her will change in the last third of the series. A female character who is ambitious, powerful and intelligent is something I love unfortunately along with that comes arrogance and unfortunately, or fortunately whichever way you look at it, Robert Jordan doesn’t skimp on the bad things that go with the good things. :D

Elayne annoys me. If I’m honest I don’t like either of the Trakand siblings.

Funnily enough I love Galad however, despite his constant need to do what is right all the time. I wonder what Cairhein would have been like with him as their king because he has just as much right to that throne than Elayne and it always pissed me off that Rand doesn’t even think of him as King of Cairhein.

agreed re: egwene. holy shit, her parts in book 10 and 12 are so flipping bad ass. Possibly more bad ass than any other character IMO.

do tell? Maybe in spoiler quotes?

I feel like 10 wasn't toooo bad? I thought it had a bit of a payoff for all the stuff in 7-9.

hard to remember what happened in which book exactly, but i thought I remembered enjoying book 10 thinking the series had got back on track.

Knife of Dreams (book 11) gets it back on track and closes the two longest running (and boring IMO) side plots.
That has Mat finally back with the Band, the massive attack on the manor by the Trolloc army, Faile rescued, Elayne gets the Throne

If someone can explain how to do spoiler quotes i can post it then. I’m on my mobile so I’m not sure how that could be done on mobile.
Type "["spoiler"]" and "["/spoiler"]" (without the quotes) around the bit you wish to include.

Your phone probably doesn't have a macro to do it, the way the BF website does, so you'll need to do it manually.

Thanks! :)

Let’s see if I can get this spoiler stuff right. :)

There’s a servant in this chapter called Gyldin, she’s the servant that Liandrin sends off to be beaten by the cook, Gyldin is actually Moghedien.

Apparently they reveal themselves in a later book/chapter but I’d forgotten about it, so I was like OMFG that’s right, that’s who that is!

Oh as an FYI, not sure if anyone else saw this, but it’s been reported on a few YouTube channels, a couple of weeks ago JordanCon was on, due to Coronavirus they did it online this year and one of the panel discussions was crashed by Rafe Judkins. He accidentally let slip that Season 1 is 8 episodes and that he and the writer’s have almost finished writing season 2. Season 1 hasn’t finished filming yet though.

I decided to start Eye of the World again and just go along with the Wot on Prime read through but I found myself once more engrossed in the story and just flew straight by chapter 10 without even realising it. I was just going to read the 2 chapters a week while reading King Killer but I guess I am doing a full read-through of the series again. At least I am not reading it for the first time and I can skim certain parts as well as take a break between books or every couple of books and read something else.

More casting announcements this morning!

We officially have Daise Congar, Cenn Buie, Marin and Bran al’Vere and Abell and Natti Cauthon.

With these inclusions I think that’s most of the most important Two Rivers people cast. Still missing the Blacksmith and his wife however and I hope they haven’t been cut because they’re probably more important to Perrin’s EoTW storyline than his own parents.

Also did anyone see the pictures of the dogs they’re using for the wolves? Such beautiful animals and they actually do have a little bit of wolf blood in them.

Enjoy! I had a break just after the Whitecloaks and Tinkers entered Emonds Field in The Shadow Rising in my reread. I expect I’ll probably fly through the last ten or so chapters of TSR, so should finish that book at least next week!

Such a shame this got delayed along with most filming as it seemed to be building some good momentum. Hopefully it ends up being a good thing with extra time to refine scripts and schedules rather than them having to cut corners to meet reduced filming/budgets.

Rosamund Pike said in a recent interview that they’d just finished filming the last shot of episode 6 when they got the news to pack up and head home. The first season is mostly filmed (minus post-production and all that stuff which i think can actually be done through lockdown?), just have to film episodes 7 & 8 then they can move into the next part. The rumour is they’ll go back around July/August.

I can't get over how good the casting is for this. No idea on any of their acting chops (apart from Pike) but physically they have nailed it IMO.
A lot of the actors, the British actors in particular are stage actors, from what I understand. Good stage actors.

More casting news this morning from Wheel of Time on Prime’s twitter account!

Abdul Salis is cast as Eamon Valda, we had rumours of this early this year late last year but WoTonPrime announced it officially this morning and Stuart Graham is Geofram Bornhald! Our first official Whitecloaks!

I do wonder if they’re thinking of merging Pedron Niall and Eamon Valda into one character though since Eamon Valda doesn’t actually appear in the books until about Book 5 or 6 I think it is, or maybe they feel like Eamon Valda is one of those characters, like Logain, that needs more fleshing out on screen?
