Part 2 of this thread is here:

You tell me.

One minute Carlton are getting Clarkson, then they're not, then they're setting up a through process, then they're getting Cook that will act as some super-dooper carrot that Clarkson won't be able to turn his back on.

So where's the process start and end if Cook and Clarkson are the end game?
Are people from carlton saying we want cook to get clarkson or is it the media. Cook is a great acquisition no matter the coach.
When does the supposed “process” start? Because they’ve also approached Fagan, who surely wouldn’t be put through it.

Im pretty sure the process is ask around see who is keen and then we will choose from there. Pretty simple really.
Im not saying we are perfect and havent always made the best choices but the media has whipped up alot of this shit storm and people are buying into it.

Do people here not understand what a recruitment process looks like?

There's a difference between building a field of candidates and selecting the best one.

Carlton have expressed a preference for an experienced coach - that's been fairly clear. IT makes sense then to approach a wide variety of people to sound out their interest in the job. It also makes sense to ask the question of people who might say 'no' - Clarkson, Fagan, even people like Chris and Brad Scott. There is no harm in asking, is there? There's also no shame in being rejected - if we ask Clarkson and he says no, we're still better for having asked the question.

Then, there's a process that runs to select the best candidate. No matter who is invited to apply, the people who are interested need to present their vision, their strategies, etc, and the best fit selected. Even Clarko, Ross Lyon etc - they need to actually have an idea about how they would take Carlton forward.

Somehow, people seem to think that these processes are the same. They aren't. Step 1 - reach out, get people interested. Step 2 - hear their vision, make a decision.

Somehow the list of people who don't get it includes Caroline Wilson:

Caroline Wilson said:
“It’s extraordinary to me that (new football director) Greg Williams now seems to be an executive director, working at the club full-time helping choose the new coach,” Wilson said.

“I can also reveal tonight that David Parkin, who sits on the coaching subcommittee, approached Chris Fagan not so long ago about the possibility of him coming to the club and being senior coach – Chris Fagan knocked that on the head immediately.

“You just wonder who is actually making the decisions at the Carlton Football Club.”

Again, Carlton clearly announced that our coaching panel would include: Greg Williams, Tim Lincoln, Brad Lloyd, Patty Kinnersly and David Parkin.

How is it inappropriate in any waay for members of that panel to be a) workign full time on the process, and b) talking to prospective candidates about whether they want to apply?

There's plenty to criticise Carlton for without jumping onto rubbish like this imo.

Are you really going to do the “it’s not what it looks like, it’s just a media beat up” thing?

Do your read your own board at all?

But, but... Carlton LOLZ!!!

Caro is annoyed at how her mate Liddle has been thrown to the curb and she has now lost her Carlton source. She's flying blind and is looking for anything to land on.

We are arriving. The Dogs and Tigers both went a long time without premiership success. For a time they were seen as no hopers, then all of a sudden they arrived. The Dees look to be next. And our premiership drought is much shorter than all of those clubs. We can do what they did. For a long time we envied clubs like Hawthorn and Geelong but currently I think we are at a point in our cycle where we are closer to a premiership than them. Top 8 in 2022 is certainly a chance.

Not at all ive said we have handled some things poorly. Going for cook is a great choice imo. Im just questioning who actually said we need coon to get clarkson first , carlton or the media

Why would anyone want to go there in a coaching capacity when the governance is so poor. The treatment and lack of vocal support Teague received was awful.

Feel sorry for Carlton supporters. They have a decent enough list, they just have absolute lemmings in charge at the top.

Would you like to elaborate on that for me please ??

A new name has entered the Carlton mix and it is from way leftfield & completely unexpected.

"Sounds hard to believe but the source is well connected" was the comment that went with the name when I was told.

I will watch with real interest to see if this has any validity.

So it wasn't Fagan?

Could it be Chris Scott? Heard he won’t be at the Cats next season

Your board has pages and pages of supposed ITK snippets and posts about Cook being lined up by the club so that Clarkson will join.

Gary Lyons “8.30 man” source reckons Brian Cook not interested in the Carlton CEO gig. Same source that said McRae and Leppitsch will be at Collingwood about 5-6 weeks ago.

All those clubs you mentioned made finals and won finals before their flags though.

Carlton have done neither yet.
