“How did we get Darcy McPherson for free, fold the suns”

And then they realize, and cycle continues

I like Darcy though, hope he gets a spot.

Levi Casboult has signed with PBC 🥰
Gee whiz. Palmy are really loading up. They've already got current Grogan Medallist Tom Hickey dominating in the ruck and Aaron Hall playing on ball. Now they're going to add Levi Casboult to their forward line! Unreal. Also great to see another former Sun in Andrew Raines taking up the director of coaching role at PBC. Rainsy is a PBC junior himself so it's an extra special full circle moment.

It's all a flow on effect. The more better and experienced players we have playing in the local leagues up here the better it's going to be for those clubs and the juniors coming through.

Imagine being a young key forward coming through and having Levi Casboult at PBC to offer tips and advice?

It's one of the many advantages of being based in a city with a very desirable lifestyle and it being a great place to raise kids. Tom Hickey, for example, only played for us for two years in 2011-12 and had longer stints in capital cities Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, yet as soon as he retired from the Swans he immediately moved back to the Gold Coast and began playing footy for PBC. Although there's plenty who have moved here that didn't have an affiliation with the Suns like Buddy. It all helps.

I remember Jed Walter mentioning in an interview once that playing for the PBC seniors team with Liam Jones during his AFL hiatus was a bit of a game changer for him in learning the tricks of the trade at the AFL level. The same will hopefully occur with Casboult when he plays/trains with Palmy next year and I'd go further than just the talls and say a small forward like Dylan Patterson could also benefit greatly from playing as a crumbing forward at the feet of Levi.

Very happy to see these guys staying on the GC and contributing at the local level even when their AFL careers end with the Suns.

They all come back
Just wish they'd come back in the prime of their career

To be fair, I think that's starting to change. 27 year old Daniel Rioli is definitely in the prime of his career now coming off a B&F win and played sublime footy in 2024 with very little help. John Noble also happens to be 27 years old. We've been saying it for years, but once we start playing finals then it should become easier to recruit players in their prime and I personally think that's just around the corner.

South Barwon has landed one of the best signings of the Geelong league off-season, securing securing former Fremantle forward Josh Corbett.
Corbertt, 28, announced his retirement from the AFL in September after being sidelined for the 2024 season with a hip injury.

The 190 centimetre forward joined Gold Coast as a mature-age recruit in 2018 after starring for Werribee and booted 33 goals in 36 games for the Suns before being traded to Fremantle at the end of 2022.

He played another five games for Fremantle in 2023.

Corbett will now be part of a three-headed monster that will give Geelong league defenders nightmares, partnering Mathieson medallists Fraser Fort and Matthew Caldow.

The Warrnambool product said having his sister Georgia and her partner Sam playing at the club helped convince him to join the Swans.

GOLD COAST SUNS

Sandy Brock (delisted) – TBC, but has been invited to train with West Coast (AFL) in the hope of winning a lifeline via the SSP.

Levi Casboult (retired) – Playing Assistant Coach at Palm Beach Currumbin (QAFL)

Brandon Ellis (retired) – Pursuing a career in the fitness and health industry on the Gold Coast. He already owns reformer pilates chain ‘Your Daily’.

Oskar Faulkhead (delisted) – North Adelaide (SANFL)

Darcy Macpherson (delisted) – North Melbourne (VFL)

Jack Mahony (delisted) – St Kevin’s (VAFA)

Hewago Paul Oea (delisted) — Southport (VFL)

Will Rowlands (delisted) – Norwood (SANFL)

James Tsitas (delisted) – Remaining with the Gold Coast Suns (AFL) in a wide-ranging role. He’ll play for their VFL team, while he’ll also be a tackling coach and work in both the Academy and strength and conditioning areas.

Lucky for Tim he's injured. Probably reason Crossley got an opportunity.
Always liked Crossley. Felt he may have made it if he could've kept off the nose beers or just not got caught out. Looked 40 as a draftee but he's a Mumford clone just not as good. Hope he goes well.

The South Cairns Cutters premiership defence has gained a massive boost as they lock up a former Richmond Tigers premiershipstar.
The Cutters announced on Tuesday they had signed the two-time premiership player Brandon Ellis for the 2025 AFL Cairns season.

Cutters football operations manager John Tootell said the former Suns utility will be a welcome addition to the Cutters.

“It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours,” Tootell said.

“He’s close friends with (Cutters utility) Tom Fields and he just wants to play footy with a couple of his good mates.

“It’d be great to have him on board. He’s obviously a very good footballer, very professional and he’s a lovely gentleman. So, it’d be great for the footy club and the competition.”

Ellis attended the AFL Cairns grand final at Cazalys Stadium between the Tigers and Cutters last season.

Former Cutters coach Daryn Cresswell selected Ellis to deliver a pre-game speech.

The Cutters would go on to break their 21-year premiership drought.

Now that we know Hinkley is stepping aside at the end of this season, I wonder if he would be open to returning to the GC and working as an assistant under Dimma. It'd be great to get someone of his expertise and experience back at the club. There were some fairly strong rumours back in 2017 that Hinkley wanted to come back to the Suns and take over from Eade so I'd say there's a good chance he'd be open to it.

Crossley is rucking for the Dogs in the scratch match against Essendon on Fox Footy right now. Still yet to be signed, but you'd expect the Dogs will snap him up as their SSP selection if he has a good game today.
