Where will the Lions finish in 2008? Just looking for Lions supporters veiws on this one if thats ok. I reckon we're gonna finish somewhere between 5-8. IMO we have the players to make the top 8 this coming year and the Johnstone trade confirms to me that Leigh is thinking aout finals footy and a flag in the not too distant future. Doubt we'll make the 4 even though a lot of people outside the club think we will under the "one team out of the 8 this year has to make the top 4 next year" rule. Our midfeild is exceptional and if charman can have another good season and the berger continues to impress and develop we should give most sides a run for their money.

Lock in 5th to 8th for me. Good growth this year, get some finals experience into the young guys legs ready for a full Premiership assault in 2009.

I'd be surprised if 5th-8th wasn't by far the most popular choice. I guess top 4 is a possibility but I'd be surprised if there were any Lions fans who didn't think that we can make the eight.

Our top ten players are the equal of most clubs - Brown, Black, Power, Lappin, Charman, Merrett, Johnstone, Adcock, Notting, Drummond. We have some really promising youngsters and a quality proven full forward who is returning from a knee reco. Those factors alone should drive us to the top 8. How far we progress beyond that is going to be dependent on a whole range of things going right - not the least that performance starts to mirror promise.

I have gone with 5-8, a good season with injuries will see us finish closer to 1-4, i think the cats are the only team with a better list than ours

I think we will finish 3rd. we have the capacity to do really well next season with our champion forward line, elite midfield and very stingy defence.

Port and West Coast have us covered.

And you could mount an argument with Hawthorn and St Kilda as well.

i reckon that ur right there. port and wce are better than ours and we are probably about the same as hawks and saints. But i reckon the eagles might just have a bit of trouble finding their feet in the early part of the season with no judd or cousins etc. Not saying we will end up above them but id say its not an unreal possibilty

I'm still not sold on Port. Feel they over achieved this season.

Voted 5-8th, but the first 6-7 games are crucial. If we win 2-3 we probably won't make the 8, but if we get a few big scalps in those games and are 5-2 or so could finish 3-6th. Obviously hoping for the later.

Said 1-4. As opposed to previous years, I'm shamefully optimistic about putting in a good show this year. I think a lot will start to come together. Ask me in another month and I'll probably say different.

At the moment we seem to have a quite hard start to the year with regards to the draw, i would think that if we can be 50/50 after the first 6-7 games all would not be lost IMO

It's going to be hard playing the Magpies in round 2 at home on a friday night coming back from Perth, if we get beaten around by the Eagles on that Saturday night and have to back it up on Friday against Collingwood, thats going to be bloody tough. But i think round 2 against Collingwood is the game i'm going to go to next year. :)

Totally agree. Their spanking in the grand final still raises eyebrows (although it probably wouldn't of mattered who the cats played, they were always going to win, really). Port were the only team to beat the cats after round 5 or whenever their streak started, however on that day the Cats were without Ling, Bartel and J.Selwood from memory. This is a team we ended up going down to by a mere 7 points (and had the umpires not awarded an incorrect 50m penalty to Ebert in the last minute perhaps we could have gotten up - but thats another story). I'm still trying to figure out how Port finished 2nd...

I also believe West Coast's list is looking a little thinner, losing arguably two of the top 5 players in the comp (when up and running of course), and they've lost Morton and Chick. I know they've still got the unbelievable freak ruckman in Cox, and a very solid FB in Glass, however their midfield is looking a little depleted. During the middle of the year when Judd and Cousins went down they got belted to the tune of almost 100 points to Port, beaten by us at ridiculus odds and St.Kilda found a way to savour Rob Harvey's party at Subi. I see West Coast finishing beneath the Lions in 08.

6th, but hopeful that with a good run with injuries and a bit more consistency from the below 100 gamers we can push higher..
