Every week one team ONLY had a bye, and we had the monstrosity of MATCH RATIO percentage dictate ladder position rather than wins and losses.

I don't remember that. But you are right, uneven number of teams mean one team has to have a bye every round. Maybe that era was so traumatic, my brain blocked it out of my memory.

It didn't work really - the biggest abortion of a plan the AFL has ever conceived - and with their shambolic administration since taking over from the VFL that is saying plenty.
