A Herald Sun article has emerged tonight with more information about next season’s fixture. Opening Round is definitely happening, with Collingwood open to participation in Opening Round of the 2025 season. The Herald Sun has also revealed that the Western Bulldogs could be hosting the Magpies at the MCG or Marvel Stadium early in the season to commemorate 100 years since their inception. The entire fixture is also going to be finalised by the AFL over the next fortnight.

And Western Bulldogs are eying a blockbuster early-season game, potentially against Collingwood at the MCG, to help ramp up their 100th- year anniversary celebrations.

My son's mate works at Norf and told him that the Bulldogs 100-year home game against us is likely to be in round one at the MCG.

More information has come through from Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph, who has stated that Collingwood will not continue with its pursuit of selling a home game at People First Stadium on the Gold Coast in 2025. The Magpies considered playing a Victorian club in Queensland, but have baulked at the idea due to the costly exercise of transferring everything so quickly with inadequate time to get everything planned and prepared for such an accomplishment.

Collingwood has parked its plans to play a home game on the Gold Coast for next year as the Suns put up their hand to be a recipient of the expanded suite of Thursday night games.

The Pies had investigated the feasibility of moving a Marvel Stadium home clash to the Gold Coast next year in a move that would give them two weeks in the state in midwinter.

Collingwood would have hosted a Victorian club and also played an away contest against the Gold Coast in that time up north.

But the price of compensating the AFL for moving a game from Marvel Stadium would have been steep as rival clubs including Carlton and Essendon also seek to play extra games at the MCG.

The Pies are now open to being part of the Opening Round fixture which will continue next year in a largely unchanged format after at one stage suggesting it would be overly taxing on their early-season fixture.

If that is correct, we will play either Hawthorn and the unnamed team (I saw Geelong somewhere) is the likely opponent as they will not have us play Essendon so close to ANZAC Day.
No, I think Opening Round has all four north easten clubs (Bris, GC, Syd, GWS) hosting in their home state that week. The rationale is that it is an NRL-free week, and so saturate the cities with AFL.

So we'd play one of those interstate teams at their home ground. I'd probably take Sydney of that lot.

If we’re playing in Opening Round odds are that it’s Sydney.

It won’t be Brisbane because of the Easter Thursday game, it probably won’t be Gold Coast because they like their home game against us to be in the July holidays and we played GWS last year.

Gather Round details are set to be released on Tuesday afternoon. Tom Morris thinks we're likely to host Sydney at the Adelaide Oval on Friday April 11 in a prime time time slot.

That would be right. The AFL won't allow their precious Swans to play us at the MCG.

Hopefully swans still have PTSD from the last time they played at Adelaide oval, at least we get the extra days break on Brisbane leading into Easter Thursday the following week.
