May have worked in the past, but doesn't necessarily mean it is the most efficient way to win a premiership.

Of course not, but there are definitely certain strategies that are more successful than others.

Definitely on board with Addams, already a promising rookie so basically a fair bet and fills a need as Ball enters the most injury-prone phase of a fairly injury prone career.

In 2009 the top 2 was out of reach for us: however hard we played, great defence, smart attack and smooth midfield we lacked a ruck and some ball getting grunt. Jolly and Ball transformed us into the best side for around two years. Don't get me wrong, i was a fan of Fraser as a player but not as a ruck, and O'Bree was an unsung trooper for a decade, but they weren't "it".

We seem to have patched together some ruck solutions. To Buckley's credit he has played cards in this game, having a crack at drafting (Grundy) recruiting (Lynch, White) and developing inherited players (Witts) as well as getting rid of B's and C's, list cloggers who were Ok but not 'it" (e.g. Ceglar).

Looks we now have the ruck solution (Grundy plus White or Witts) and the ball mining solution (Adams) in place. They may not be the flag equation but they are a fair stab at it.

Scharenberg looks classy, reminds me of Lonie in that he's tall, kicks well and can move. That's not an insult, Lonie was a damaging wingman and a bit of class in a pretty gritty side. If he's more than that great, but I'm not expecting him to dominate the men the way he dominated the boys. Adams on the other hand looks ready to butt heads with the elite now.

Knightmare, i see you've settled playing reid up forward given Nathans choice of game plan. However you still mention you would prefer the press and reid down back. Can you eventually see Nathans game plan work and take us to top 4 or do you think there will eventually need to be some changes? In the next few years scharenberg might play that sweep role exceptionally well and make up for the loss of reid down back. Also if Clinton young stays fit do you see him playing a role?

Looking forward to seeing Jesse White continue his form from the last half of last year. If he can do this he'll be an upgrade on Lynch allowing Reid to spend more time in defense and give Grundy a break in the ruck. Clokey would love him to be hitting the score board and relieving some pressure from him, with the addition of Reid were suitable the triple towers would be a nightmare for most clubs.

The new draftees have been added to the senior list, Freeman has grown to 184cm.

Sadly the Collingwood FC measurements are incorrect in the cases of many of the young players.

I can only imagine they were measured in shoes.

Jono Marsh is 191cm. Not 194cm. He would have gone first round if 194cm.

Similarly Freeman is 181cm. Not 184cm.

It will depend on the continued change in playing personnel over coming seasons.

For 2014 with our talents as a list more in the contested ball and pressuring aspects of the game I don't in an ideal world like the way we are set up. Long term I'd also still prefer to stay away from the uncontested gamestyle still and go more contested ball and forward press focused.

Hine and Rendell are masters at bringing in contested ball winners through the draft. You only have to look at their respective recent draft histories and the current makeups of the Collingwood and Adelaide team lists. So many talented contested ball winners but yet not a whole lot of outside talent.

On Clinton Young I half expect he establishes himself as a regular assuming good health. With our outside gamestyle he is a fit with the way we want to play which is a positive. Even with our current gamestyle he's not someone I'd have in my best team and I value some of our other younger, better rounded talent but none the less I expect to see him line up on a wing more weeks than not purely because he can penetrate with his long kick and running, even if his kick is hit and miss.

Well he played best when he had Tippett along side him so hope he gets same effect with Cloke alongside him

Probably Scharenberg, because when healthy, should be able to cement his place in the backline. (particularly if Maxwell drops off, or if Marley has any legal consequences).

Adams and Freeman would be next - but they will have more of a battle to get a regular spot in the midfield.

White is a known, and won't really be "exciting".

As for the Karnezis and Marsh - the potential is probably there, but given how low/cheap they came, I would be very suprised to see much from either this year.

Very excited by the addition of Karnezis. He's got a fair bit of talent and has got a good goal sense.. im looking forward to seeing how he goes down at vic park

That is where he will Start his Collingwood Career at VFL Level down at Vic Park

I'm excited that one of them may be crowned our new whipping boy.

There's is a wide spread of players looking to win that prize. Obviously, Armstrong is the early favourite but it's better when the prize goes to someone who was "fluffed up" in the preseason. I suggest you use your post as the topic for a new thread...

Paine was 191 not 194 as well... It is the mysterious Derek Hine tape measure...
