Perth is full of white elephants.

Perry Lakes Stadium was one of the biggest white elephants until they tore it down and turned it into a housing estate.
I reckon Melbourne's worse, when you think about how big and how half of its essentially as old as Etihad, Optus Oval just sits there.

But I'm a pretty big stadium nerd and always love checking out the local footy oval when I'm in a town. Knocked off all the old VFL grounds bar Waverley and always find it impossible to imagine these (mostly) dilapidated places hosting elite footy for 25,000.

I always thought Plough Lane in England was pretty sad. For those playing at home, Wimbledon were a Premier League club at the start of the 2000s and then taken over and moved to Milton Keynes to become the black and white MK Dons, not the blue and gold Wimbledon. Milton Keynes is a shithole. Their ground just got overgrown and forgotten, and there's a whole heap of grounds like this in the UK.

Scotland's national stadium had a former location, it's been in disrepair since '67

A number of years ago travelling through Spain I came across the derelict site of World Expo 92 in Seville

The whole place is a ruin. I went to Expo 88 as a kid but haven't been back to Brisbane in over twenty years. Have we done a better job?

This place was known as the White Elephant when I was a kid, it's on Williamstown beach. It's now a restaurant. Having been in there when I was younger, knowing the state it was in and the amount of shit there was in the place when it was abandoned I could never eat here.
