Yeah, Basil Campbell for the mighty Bulldogs (South Freo in red & white) was a short but very stocky centre half forward who was as tough as anyone & famously put down Don Scott in a state game. He was actually a very clever player who brought others into the game with deft taps, touches & body work, the way Carey did for his team mates.
The other guy was Phil Narkle of Swan Districts who was a talented wingman. I’m pretty sure he won a Sandover medal as f & b of the WAFL & then played with St Kilda.

Earliest memories I have are from 87 onwards so cannot remember lethal.
Plugga Ablett Snr and Carey at a level above.
Rob Harvey, Dunstall, Diesel, Ricciuto, Voss, Buddy, Hird, Juddy, GAJ.

Then at a level below would be
Buckley, Jono Brown (although at his peak was as good as any), Riewoldt, Danger, The ox pre Knee, Goodes, G Jackovich, and Hodge.

Special mention to Allen Jackovich who could have been anything if his head was screwed on.

Saw the tail end of Matthews and Doull's careers, were still great players but never saw them in their prime.
Hurts not to include Chappy!!

A few honorable mentions to some randoms: I liked what Matthew Knights did at Richmond, he was great in his prime. Tony Modra and Allen Jakovich were both exceptional forwards; Jakovich could've been anything but for injuries. Chris Johnson, Guy McKenna, James Clement all great defenders.

Im only 22 so the ones that spring to mind are in no particular order: N.Reiwoldt, Swanny, Fyfe, Pendles, Prime GAJ, Dusty, buddy, Pav, SMitchell.

My favourite however.. Alan Didak. His 2010 was unreal, ave 25 touches and kicked 42. A solid body of work, no one i’ve ever enjoyed watching more.

I'm 21. I'm not going to consider players I mainly saw as a young kid when I wasn't paying close attention to footy (Buckley, Hird, Fev, Richo, Cousins etc)

Maybe post your age (35) , and when I say “seen play” I mean seen with your own 2 eyes , doesn’t have to be in person. On tv is fine. Maybe post a reason along side some selections. DONT just come here to criticise others , post your own top 20.

Here’s mine.

I’m sure I have missed a few , and will make some edits as I see fit if others post players I may have forgotten.

Enjoy!

1. Tony Lockett. Most goals ever. In 281 games. First player I would pick on my team. Ben hart said lockett use to say to him before the game started “keep your hands to yourself and we won’t have a problem” lol.

2. Darren Jarman. Freak.

3.Judd.

4.Dunstall. Reliable.

5.buddy franklin. Freak

6.gary Ablett snr. I think his rating is usually a little higher in most lists. Not mine. 6 is still very high.

7.gary Ablett jnr.

8.voss

9.fyfe

10.akermanis

11.Paul Kelly

12.sam Mitchell

13.glenn jakovich

14.modra. Freak. Would like to have him higher , but the lack of the 2 premierships and goals total due to games played and injury I can’t have him any higher. But you knew he was going to take a screamer every week. Annoys me when people say Howe has the best replicable mark ever when modra use to take better marks every week. The afc built a club off this blokes back. Go watch a highlights package.

15.dangerfield

16.jonathon Brown

17.buckley

18.greg Williams

19.robert Harvey

20.dustin Martin (1 Brownlow and a premiership already. Will be higher by the end of his career I’m sure if he keeps his form up)

I'm 40 and in no particular order, but with a bias to Eagles players I've seen much more of:

Matera, Jakovich, Cousins, Judd and Cox. Dunstall, Lockett, Ablett Sr, Carey, Goodes, Pavlich, Reiwoldt and Buddy of the forwards. Daicos, Harvey, Hird, Buckley, Voss, GAJ and Fyfe.

And Rowan Jones.

Probably plenty of others I'm forgetting.
