Yep I can still remember the billiard table the log fire great music and a few friends on a cold Saturday night after the footy. Those were the days, before spell-checkers and Google.
Am I the only one who can see Mitch Brown as a defender in our next premiership team?
I don't think he solves the Lonergan replacement problem, because he doesn't look like he's ever going to have the strength to match it with the big forwards. It would be Ben Reid in the final quarter of the 2011 GF, every week. But with his size, mobility, reading of the play and general football smarts, I think he could he be the guy to take over Mackie's role. Similar to Thompson/Hansen at North, Fletcher at Essendon, Gibson at Hawthorn, etc - run off his man, take intercept marks, drive attacking play out of the backline. He just looks to me as though he'd kill it in that sort of role.

Have you folk been contributing to the music thread? Need some more vintage posts there. I'm lost in a lot of what some people label as music.I always called Mary Hopkin,Hopkins to.

I see where you're coming from, but I wouldn't see anyone on our list in our next premiership side; I'd rather first just see 22 guys who can each perform a role for the team, and who lose that position very rarely. We get that (and we don't have it right now), then we're going to be very difficult to beat again.
In terms of replacing Lonergan, I would pick Taylor to go to full back when Lonergan retires. He's the best key defender we've got, and if we start grooming someone now, that player can pick up the slack from Rivers, who can fill in at CHB for a while. When you stop and analyse it, very few sides have three tall forwards that need worrying about, most don't have two. So if you were going to develop Brown, it wouldn't be full back and doesn't need to be (although guaranteed that will be the conclusion some reach), it would be as the third tall defender, or possibly even Mackie's role. The two aren't entirely dissimilar either.
So if Brown does stay, either a third tall defender or playing Mackie's role may have some merit. Who knows.
And to save time, that's purely an opinion. Let's see what insults come this way in response.
Or he walks... depending on what promises the club has made him and how he fancies his chances in the ND.Totally agree with him possibly being a replacement for Mackie. But having said that I think the club may see it different and cut him loose.
You've taken too much GBH (Grevious Brown Hater) already. Go home.I'll take a kilo.
your quite a fan aren't ya you bloodygoose?
turn this guy into a defender

I don't like the idea of sticking Blitz back as a FB- that won't utilise his best strengths- his endurance and speed (relative to other talls). Maybe as a stopgap if desperate, yeah, but not for weeks at a time. I reckon I'd rather he played as a wing running forward than as a FB.You know we are in trouble if we are playing Stanley as a key defender. And I think you'll find that saints fans agree with that notion.
He is a second ruck that can play as a second or third fiddle forward. I doubt he will ever be a first ruck so I question why he was traded in (effectively competing with blicavs and vardy as well as kersten as the third tall - meaning 2 of these guys are forced to slow their development in the vfl).
Anyway back to the op... The answer is: draft Goddard or durdin. Will be their third year when they are required to come in for lonergan. I know everyone and their dog thinks we need mids (and I agree) but pull the trigger on a top 10 KPD that will set us up for 10 years, and focus the other picks and next year's round 1 on mids.
The option B is play blicavs full back, cover your eyes and hope for the best. It could pay off, if it doesn't, we are in trouble and need to trade in a ready made replacement.
There are no other options on our list IMO. Walker too slow, average reader of the play, poor footy IQ and bad skills, keep him forward. Kolo I rate, but will be an ideal third tall to take over from rivers.

Ah, yep, got it now.Me too.
That is why my answer is to draft Goddard or Durdin, and have either or develop into a key defender with Kolo and Taylor. Blitz to second ruck.
It's just that we have zero other options for full back after lonergan (and not playing Blitz there), hence the reason we went hard for Frawley. Blitz is a last resort, who may or may not be successful as a key defender.
The only way to solve the hole at FB for us for the future is to go with Goddard or Durdin - players we haven't had the chance to even be close to drafting in a long time (top 10 key position players). I say grab this opportunity now while we have it to set up our backline for the next 10 years.
Yep and he has done three times as much as Brown. Just shows you how bad Brown is.Have a look on the Saints Board - plenty of Stanley haters on there too ...

Apparently so, he was officially delisted this morning.

Brown & Hamling this morning to go along with Hunt yesterday.
So with 8 delisted (6 senior & 2 rookie), 2 traded out, 2 traded in & Blicavs to be upgraded, the question becomes what are we doing with the other 5 spots on the senior list? Are we looking at any delisted free agents or going to the PSD maybe this year?
